Alas, I think that era is long past...GM seems more content to coast on mediocrity and genericism in design these days.2 points

Right, her Coupe de Ville (this lady was a character) was an extra cost Firemist color. With that color, a burgundy landau, and a burgundy leather interior, she had every reason to be proud of it. It would have been nicer if it had alloys - and Cadillac had them - instead of the wire wheels, which I've never really liked. Okay, you steered me in the right direction. It was a 1959 color on some Pontiacs. Every once in a blue moon, I'd see one that was hanging on and being pampered to be a classic. There was no color like it. Here are some examples of those Pontiacs, across various body styles: convertible coupe sedan station wagon (this had to be the original paint) It would be neat to see one in this "coral" color, as you mentioned, in excellent condition. What would not be neat is having to drive one around in wet conditions with drum brakes at all 4 wheels.2 points

• The only Cadillac alloys in this period ('77-79) was on the FWD Eldorado ('79 and up). And you could get genuine wire wheels on the Seville Elegante. But the big cars either had hubcaps or wire wheel covers; didn't get alloys until it went FWD in '85. • That Pontiac above looks like their version of what Buick dubbed 'Lido Lavender'.1 point

Agree entirely. Look at how KIA and Hyundai are leading in SUV's. The only thing that might save north American truck production is if Rivian or Tesla can build EV';s. Otherwise, sadly, I think eventually someone else will figure out how to capture even that market from the domestics. They are sort of Pigs, but even the Tundra is having a cult following.1 point

Whatever happened with the self driving cars everyone promised? And as for the Canoo....maybe Blu can take his Canoo When he goes with his Canoe to go hiking...but I am sure it would haul a kayak also. Obligatory ICE in the Electric thread...1 point

They made one of these with that same sloped back lite and an opera window. I liked it a little more. Even better, they made a few Buick Century coupes with the canted grille and also with a formal notchback rear lite and an opera window. Those were rare, since most of them also had the triangular window like you've shown above. I am now lamenting the loss of rear wheel drive being the norm. All these boulevardiers on a ladder type chassis/frame rode so well. It was a bullet proof platform and they were easier to service.1 point

Appointment this Wednesday to have the transmission fluid changed. GM says the problem is the factory-installed fluid allows condensation to build up inside the transmission and cause all the issues. They've come up with a different fluid composition. Internet says it works... sometimes. Service writer at the local Chevy dealer says none of his customers came back with a recurrence. Fingers crossed this works. They're giving me a loaner, so I'm wondering what I'll get. I told the scheduler lady I don't care if it's a Spark, I'll be appreciative of anything, since I did not buy it there.1 point

^ In my experience, it's very rare that GM ever re-used colors over significant amounts of time. I thought I had an example; a one-year only color, Pontiac (and Olds/ Buick/ Chevy) had 'Skyline Blue' in '64. I know I read a piece on a '72 Pontiac where it was special painted that code paint... but it doesn't show up on paintref.com's cross-reference site. Must've been a true one-off in '72. - - - - - In looking at '58 Pontiac colors, the one that looks closest to my eye to the Cad you pictured is 'Sunrise Coral', but it's a '58-59 color only. I think many people are under the impression that the automotive color palette is ultimately quite limited, when as a matter of fact it's enormous. What is even closer to the Cad is Pontiac's '64 Sunfire Red, a lovely color... but it's a another one-year only, Buick/Pontiac-only color: The Caddy pictured appears to be 'Light Cedar Firemist', but it's only a '79 Cadillac color. The Firemist paints were unique metallics, only on Cadillacs. Cadillac had 20 colors in '79, with 6 of those being extra-cost Firemist metallics.1 point

This one here is a freakin' dream. Probably even slightly better if in Salon trim. (Not doable at all in Brougham trim.) I think firethorn was a '77 color (more like a candy apple red). They used the term mahogany for their burgundy in '76, with a super dark one that looked great, especially for Brougham seating. For '75, it was cranberry. Our neighbors bought a '75 coupe - silver with cranberry interior. My parents bought a '76 like the one above, but certainly not in that color - swap out the lime for metallic blue. That's why I remember all this - it was the years they were in the market and nicely done brochures were on people's living room coffee tables, where they belonged! '75 - cranberry interior - Supreme - buckets, no air based on panel and round vent vanes '75 - persimmon (metallic rust) exterior deserves honorable mention - Salon - tan inside, missing hood ornament; this one has a 455 V8! 76 - mahogany interior and exterior - Supreme - a waste to have metallic mirrors on both sides when it has rally wheels ' '77 - firethorn - Supreme - had to have had the 260 V8 to have a stick (5 speed) and bucket seats, very rare; after 4 years of round a/c vents on the passenger side, they went to rectangular ones (meh) for this last hurrah for the platform - this was the B-O-P and Chevy burgundy/red for this year across the board, maybe even Cadillac Motor Division1 point

Drunken was the Miata that fornicated with a cardboard box to make this atrocity. Hard pass. And this from our resident sport compact guy. Or more tequila until it looks good. Lipstick on a pig. See, I actually sort of like the supra. Would take a Mustang GT over the supra though.1 point

More feel-good marketing spin. EVERY brand out there has -or will in the next 11 minutes- claim the very same thing.1 point

Cadillac has their current Franchise agreement expiring in November. GM worked with the Franchise Dealer Council in writing up the new agreement. This new agreement has EV's set out as a sub section of the Cadillac dealership and will require a $200,000 investment in tools for the service center, updated displays, sales training, and charging stations plus more. The dealers will have to follow the franchise agreement to the T if they want to sell the new Cadillac EV line of Auto's. Cadillac has also made it clear that if you want to stay a Cadillac Dealer, you will have to make this investment otherwise GM and the dealership will part ways this November. The $200,000 is a minimum and all the upgrades must be done by the end of the second quarter of 2021. This will support Cadillac as it leads the company in becoming the first division to be pure electric with their first auto's being the Lyriq SUV and the Celestig hand-built flagship sedan. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/cadillac-ev-dealers-investment/ https://www.autonews.com/dealers/cadillac-requiring-dealers-make-200000-upgrades-evs?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter1 point

Labor Party in the UK wants to change the ban on new ICE auto sales from the current 2025 to 2030. This will require that the Labor party get the conservative party to join in making this change which would also help the UK meet their Paris accord for reduction in air pollution. Originally the Conservative party had passed banning ICE auto's starting in 2040, but due to changes in ICE production in the country, companies like Honda moving production to the US as well as other auto company changes, the Conservatives changed this to 2035 to match when certain auto companies will leave the UK. A growing base of Businesses and city councils are calling for a more ambitious phase-out policy of stopping all Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid and Van sales within the UK. The UK has avoided brown out this crazy year with work from home and pandemic lock downs due to the Tesla battery stations they have been installing across the country. Microsoft has moved their data center to below the ocean to reduce power needs for cooling, etc. The move to natural sounds, cleaner air and a better over all life style seems to be driving this change in the UK. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? https://electrek.co/2020/09/18/egeb-uk-ice-cars-2030-microsoft-data-center/#more-1477061 point

Lucid Air has beat Tesla Plaid record set last year at Laguna Seca race track. Tesla using their yet to be released Plaid power train set a Laguna record of 1:36.55 Lucid set the new course record at Laguna in 1:33.00 I wonder if GM will go after this record with their Ultium Power Train family? https://electrek.co/2020/09/18/lucid-beats-tesla-model-s-plaid-prototype-on-racetrack-with-its-own-tri-motor-air-test-vehicle/1 point

According to Electrek web site, VW will open up their reservation system in September. Online reservations for the ID.4 EV will only require a $100 deposit. VW production of the ID.4 for European and Chinese markets has started and is on size to compete with the Tesla Y small CUV. The auto is expected to have about 250 miles of range in base form and start at $40,000. 300 miles plus for the top trim version. Production for the North American Market will start in early 2022 at Chattanooga Factory upon the construction completion of the assembly line and battery production plant. The auto has a .28 drag coefficient. ID.4 Concept https://electrek.co/2020/08/27/vw-id4-electric-suv-orders-september-deposit/ Thanks to a Chinese web site not being secure, actual production models have been caught before the official introduction. A muscular clean CUV EV is seen here and close to the Concept. https://electrek.co/2020/06/17/leaked-photos-of-vw-id-4-electric-crossover-reveal-clean-design/1 point

Hopefully the Hummer by GMC can change that by starting a stylistic trend away from coasting mediocrity of blah design. Chevrolet trucks is a perfect example of an ugly brick design that just screams HELL NO!0 points
