  1. Dealers may move to a customer order model and not carry inventory. Carrying a lot of inventory is a pretty good use of real estate and money, they could cut all that out and probably save a lot of money, and let people just order the model, color, spec they want. And you really only need to keep 1 of each model as a demo on the lot for test drives. Also the dealership model is in question anyway. All these start ups like Tesla, Lucid, Rivian, etc aren't using dealers because obviously they are starting with a clean slate and see the dealership model as flawed. And the legacy OEM's should really treat dealers like Apple treats retailers. Apple sets a retail price on a product and that's the price whether you go to Target, Walmart, Best Buy or the Apple store. And if you don't sell it at Apple's retail price you lose the right to sell their product. So given that if Ford says the Mach-E is $42,000, then any dealer that doesn't sell that car for the exactly $42,000.00 sticker should lose their franchise rights, end of story. Then the price is the same at every dealer nationwide, no market adjustments, discounts, no price haggling, etc. OEM's give dealers too much power, cater to dealers too much. Tesla has no dealers and outsells Cadillac with 500 dealers. And in the new EV world, one way to cut price down would be a direct sales model.

  3. According to the latest poll from Yale University, George Mason University and Climate Nexus commissioned by the nonprofit Coltura, finds that 55% to 35% margin in requiring all new autos sold in their state to be electric starting in 2030. As per multiple scientific and university groups, carbon pollution biggest source is gasoline powered cars and world leaders coming off the heels of the COP26 climate gathering are trying to address this mounting climate crisis. Yes, not everyone will agree with these polls or the science behind climate change and as a multi-cultural society, we must work to at times agree to disagree and still find a way to move forward. Humanity has always come together for the good of society. Polls are now showing strong voter support for aggressive climate action. This is of course based on a number of understandings such as the following positive impacts: 73% believe a positive impact on air quality 64% believe a positive impact on climate change 61% believe a positive impact on individual health 58% believe a positive impact on energy independence 52% believe a positive impact on urban communities 51% believe a positive impact on suburban communities This is clearly a generational belief when one looks at how phasing out ICE auto sales are looked at by voter groups. Voters aged 18-34 (71%) believe 2030 is when ICE auto sales should end. 69% of Black voters believe 2030 is when ICE auto sales should end. 67% of Hispanic voters believe 2030 is when ICE auto sales should end. This is even more interesting to review when you look at the full transition to electric auto's broken down by state. Michigan voters support this change by a 55 to 33% margin Nevada voters support this by a 52 to 39% margin Colorado voters support this by a 50 to 38% margin New York voters support this by a 66 to 24% margin Massachusetts voters support this by a 62 to 28% margin New Jersey voters support this by a 58 to 30% margin Some will ask and the voter survey was of 2,678 registered voters across the nation's states. Some were as low as only 153 respondents from Hawaii to 350 in New York, Massachusetts and other states. So yes, one can say this is a small pool to sample to the almost 168.31 million registered voters in the US. The focus on posting this is to encourage civil discussion on if this is not only reachable, but if it should be done or not, why and why not and to encourage the discussion on the future of the ICE versus EV industry. Many states have committed billions of dollars over the next few years to installing electric charging stations across their state to help the transition to EVs. Some auto makers are taking it a step further such as Hyundai / Kia that is supporting not only the highspeed 800V plug in charging but also wireless charging of their auto's so that end users can use wireless pads that are installed at their home be it a house, condo or apartment for constant full charge at the start of each day. Some places such as the West coast and even the East coast that is catching up in charging installation are leading compared to the Mid-west that is trailing. Change is inevitable and for some, a strong resistance to change will keep them in ICE for a long time while others will embrace the change of fueling from home as a dominant way to get to work, run errands, live life. Post your thoughts on these latest polls on how you think this will play out. Please be polite, do not get political, but focus on the technology, the change to society and the pro's and con's of what you think moving to EV sales only by 2030 or 2035 depending on where you live will do for the world, country, state economy. 4. B-b-but if dealerships make the bulk of their income in the service department AND OEM's prefer to avoid mass warranty costs... wouldn't GM lean towards recommending -say- 50K mile filter changes?? Keep in mind one cannot compare engine oil & trans oil lifespans. A transmission is a closed hydraulic system, but an IC engine sees air & gasoline contaminates introduced into the oil, plus significantly higher temperatures on average. I'm with you on earlier-than-recommended oil changes, but with the trans it's a waste of time/money, technically.

  6. I hear all sorts of brands ticking & clunking & whirring walking thru parking lots. The GM V8 thing seems to have more than 1 theorized cause, but the bottom line on both my statements here is- complexity is up 10-fold, and some minor noises are the compromise in order to deliver 'X' on other fronts. The ticking in & of itself isn't impacting functionality in any way. Your Escalade is 'old school', so to a degree was my 2500HD 6.6L.

  8. Watched Peter Jackson's excellent Beatles documentary 'Get Back' last weekend. Also watched the recent 'Nobody' (John Wick style thriller w/ Bob Odenkirk and RZA as brothers!), 'From a Vine' (recent light comedy/drama w/ Joe Pantoliano as a burnt out Canadian auto exec that moves to rural Italy to restore his grandfather's winery), and a couple good '80s British cold war dramas w/ Michael Caine ("Fourth Protocol" w/ Pierce Brosnan also) and 'The Whistle Blower'.

  10. It's very nice. Thank you. The rear fender skirts would have to go. I'd have preferred that the rally wheels not be body colored. Someone blew it by not getting tan seat belts when they went all out otherwise with the high line model. That said, this is an interesting color combo and more common on European metal than on American cars. I think I've seen this before. The car was being sold on Long Island (Lawn Giland). - - - - - So, you go to the casino buffet the day they're featuring that special price. You think "a dollop of this and a dollop of that." When you leave, you vow not to go to another buffet for 3 months. I find this to be less of a problem with Brazilian steak houses. Their main items are better prepared and probably less fatty, and they don't have that many/any casserole type dishes. Plus, dessert is never included, and, with the price of the rodizio being high enough, I know I won't order dessert. 1. The salad was good and I love artichokes and tomatoes 2 Pizza, filled pasta, baked fish, and green beans - all good 3. Linguini with shrimp (a little spicy, didn't finish), a potato hash type casserole (eh), and a sweet potato (I've grown to love these) 4. Generally, I haven't got great desserts but, this time, they were all good - the brownie (excellent), the chocolate swirl cake, the kolaches, the oatmeal raisin cookie, and even the pumpkin mousse these ladies at the adjacent table said they were enjoying - - - - - How I would eat in the college cafeteria on the regular back in the day and NOT put on any weight is beyond me. Things have changed. I do stick to my once every 2 or 3 months rule.

  11. Knowing that my full-size SUVs seem to go 300,000 miles plus following the OEM recommendation for Service makes spending money on a 30K mile service seem crazy IMHO also like @balthazar has stated. The place I have used for Transmission service does the Drop n Drain and breaks open the filter to see if any or what size metal bits are in the filter. Then while it is open, they flush the Torque converter using a flush machine. Pretty interesting to watch as you see every little bit of old trans fluid come out. Seems to be working for me and will stick with the schedule of service. Discovered one interesting thing today as I have been looking at the $40 to $100 headlight restoration kits as the SS had the right-side light fogged and the left side was starting to get a little fogging. Wife was getting together with her small bubble of girlfriends for a cookie making day. So I wanted to ensure she had good visibility as the rain has been crazy here lately, the last month and now they are calling for snow. So cleaned the windshield and rainX it as it keeps it so clear much longer than without. So I had my RainX rag and decided to wipe the headlights. WOW was I surprised by the amount of crude it took off, so I used a bit more RainX and cleaned both headlights. No fogging and very clear now. Was very bright when she left.

  13. 30K miles trans filter replacement is bonkers-frequent, IMO. I've never ever heard anyone recommend (or perform) at such short intervals. I do agree with your take on flush vs. drop & drain.

  15. Thru September of '21, Chevrolet sold 24,803 Bolts. Thru November of '21, Ford sold 24,791 Mach-Es. Ford is expected to surpass Chevy here due to the temporarily-suspended production of the Bolt, but it's interesting that the oft-maligned Bolt is more popular than the Mach-E so far.

  16. I find some old photos and laugh. It seems the past was better than the present. There was less negativity. Here is a photo of my very first car. It was a hand me down from my parents. This car lasted for 16 years and, even though the weather got to it, the intake and exhaust system must have remained in great shape, since the quiet and rhythmic hum of the Rocket 350 V8, both inside and outside the car, sounded similar to when it was new. I can't tell if the center caps are there or not. I could never hang on to them on my 1984 Cutlass Supreme. That's what happens when you park them at commuter rail stations. Here it was in a subdivision outside of Atlanta - near Stone Mountain - that was being built out. This would have been some 30 years ago. While never slow paced, metro Atlanta would not be anywhere as slow paced as this photo might suggest. Good times.

  20. I get the point you're all making, but to me as @ccap41 has state he would never support them, I also refuse to support a dealership like that. Sadly, all the dealerships around me are using M.A. on the Mach-E so getting one might not happen for me. Another reason to continue to do the maintenance and take care of my existing autos till this shortage craziness is over.

  21. Hahaha yup, office building in the background. It's kind of funny that I work in downtown St. Louis, MO but I live in a small town of about 10,000 people surrounded by farm fields and this is only a 40 minute drive.
