  1. This day in history ... things I don't easily forget First, the bad: The 1971 Los Angeles - Sylmar earthquake with its epicenter in the San Fernando Valley section of the city Next, the good: In 1969, the first flight of the Boeing 747 from Paine Field in Everett, Washington. Boeing essentially "bet" the company on this endeavor and was successful. Pan Am was the launch customer for the jumbo jet. Gotta say I love my trivia.

  2. I have an Apple and Facebook account but I do not use auto login on my browser. Not a biggie but it basically says what the other articles state regarding Ford and GM gong after problem dealers for unacceptably high markups. Allow me to "cheat". Here are four screenshots of the article.

  3. Doesn't do that on my Mac browser so I cannot account for any unforeseen issues. Thanks for providing the additional links @David. I would have to make out a living will before driving that one but I would die a happy man, I can promise you that!

  5. This is 'Gray Baby'. We've been feeding her breakfast & dinner on our back porch since the summer of '19. We got her a heated, insulated 'A-frame' house outside over the winters, and eventually she would let us pet her on occasion. 2 weeks ago, at about 11PM, she was calling loudly at the back door, and scratching at it some. She never did this before, never came inside the house before. So we figured out how to bring her thru the back door, into the garage and down into the basement (my basement door is in my garage). She kept glancing back into the backyard (I have woods behind my house)- so either she was afraid of a predator, or she was just DONE with being out. She stayed 2 weeks in the basement, snuggled up on a couch down there, and she was quiet & content. Slept a TON. Never tried to leave/go up the stairs, and quickly she would lay right next to or on one of us. We'd go down & hang out with her. Super-sweet. It was clear she had been in a home before. Sad that she lived outdoors for 1.75 years when she could've been safe & snug inside. Took her to the vet after a week; about 3 yrs old, clean bill of health, got some shots, good to go. But we have 3 cats right now, so my son/his girlfriend found a couple who are 'cat people', and tonight Gray Baby took a ride to Philly to live there. I like to play it nonchalant RE cats, but I'm pretty sure I'm not fooling anyone here. She's going to be missed...

  7. Cadillac will be defending their 2021 IMSA Manufacturer Championship and as they do this, they are also preparing to return to the world racing stage. This Cadillac GTP race car is codeveloped by Cadillac Racing, Design and Race manufacturer Dallara. The prototype will feature a new Cadillac engine package in conjunction with the GTP common Hybrid system. This new race car will take into account the IMSA and ACO regulations. Cadillacs brand characteristics will be instantly recognizable, many of which are seen on the V-Series today. Per Chris Mikalauska, lead exterior creative designer for Cadillac,  “It will artistically combine form and function to influence the development of the forthcoming race car. Elements of Cadillac’s brand DNA, such as vertical lighting and floating blades, will be present throughout.” Cadillac commitment to performance is embodied in the V-Series portfolio by incorporating technologies learned on the racing track. This commitment to excellence and performance is found in the recently expanded V-Series portfolio that includes CT4-V, CT5-V sport sedans, Escalade-V and the track-capable CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing. The Cadillac Project GTP race car will be revealed fully Summer 2022, and debut on the track for the first time at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2023. 8. Reviews have shown people want a million dollars (tax free, while we're at it). Now what? Everything comes at a cost. This is why Rolls Royce doesn't sell 5 million vehicles per year. Affordability is the number 1 criteria in consumerism.

  9. ^ that’s quite a bit older than 60 years. If the above info RE rims is accurate, people will have to also dump their OEM rims to go airless. As I suspected- because part of the securing of pneumatic tires on rims is via air pressure (duh). Also, the inner surface of any pneumatic rim if far from a single plane. Boom- another price hike. Wonder if someone will calculate up the potential weight of all the scrapped factory rims. ? I’ll add to my earlier comment RE flats. All 3 on my 2500HD occurred in my driveway, IE; I ran over a nail/bolt on the road, never knew it at the time, drove home, and found the flat the next morning. Never stranded. I very seldom notice people with flats on the road, it’s not a common problem from my observation. But NJ spends a LOT of money on road repair/maintence.

  10. Seems according to Wiki that in 1938 a patent was given to J.V. Martin for airless tires. Airless tire - Wikipedia This story says Michelin has been working on the Uptis tire for the last 21 years. Airless tires get their public test drive (freethink.com) Course plenty of both no you do not and yes you do want this tech as here is another story on yes you want this tech. 11. A pipe dream. Tire companies have been trying to get airless tires into regular production for 60 years now. I’ll see if I can find the clipping I saved to show that.

  12. This isn't a cheap tire issue, this is a user issue. Also not a cheap tire issue. 2/3 of your reasonings have nothing to do with cheap tires. Do you REALLY see that many people on sides of the road with blown out tires? My commute is 31 miles each way to work and it's not a common occurrence to see people on the side of the road with flat tires, to downtown STL. Plus, you claim to have been working from home and not going out places so I have high doubts you're not exaggerating here. Also, $400 set of tires isn't necessarily the cheapest. It depends so much on the vehicle they're going on. If it's a 15" wheel, that's not a super cheap tire. If it's a 20" truck tire, that's extremely cheap. My Nitto Motivo tires (235/50R18) were $135/tire and I believe about $650 with install + tax. That's definitely not cheap, but also far from $250/tire Michelin Latitude Tour with mediocre reviews.

  13. When I read some of David's posts, I'm reminded of one of the Star Trek movies (the one with James Cromwell), where one of the people upon first seeing the Enterprise asks 'How much money did all this cost?' and Picard chuckles and replies 'We don't use money anymore.'
