  1. Its a shame that half of the Beatles are dead. Just as I was finding out who the Beatles were and what they meant, Lennon was murdered. But the thing is, when I first heard of the news that Lennon was murdered, I as a young kid, was not fully aware that John Lennon, was a Beatle, and was murdered... It dawned on me that one of the Beatles had died when Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson was singing Say Say Say. Ive seen some nice rides these past few days. I will be posting some pics.

  2. As with everything, there's an App for that.... several in fact. This is from the Plugshare app. Any EV with a 350 mile range and fast charging ability should be sufficient

  3. It is highly dependent on the chemistry of the battery. Batteries can have extremely long lives though, so even when a battery is done in an EV, it can go on to serve as a household solar power storage unit for another decade or more. A gas engine can't really compete with that. Gas engines, and their transmissions, are incredibly complex even just from a metallurgy standpoint. The amount of time and energy that goes into creating and transporting all of those parts is mind blowing. That said, there have been some relatively recent battery breakthroughs that will, in future, reduce the amount of rare earth metals used in batteries. Telsa has already implemented them in some of their cars. The batteries are smaller and lighter for the same power output and range. There are two main points to EVs: 1. It makes the method of propulsion fuel agnostic. It doesn't matter if you have coal, natural gas, wind, hydro, solar, rooftop solar, nuclear, or a hamster running on a wheel generating electricity. The car doesn't care. If all of the sudden we can't use coal anymore, there's 5 or 6 more options to switch to and you don't even have to think about it, your power company does that. 2. Even if you charge your EV from a coal plant (which the vast majority don't, coal use has fallen below 20% in this country), it is still cleaner from a CO2 standpoint because EVs are just that much more efficient. Additionally, it is far easier to make sure that a few power plants are burning cleanly than it is to make sure 200 million cars are. You live in NY, so you have emissions checks. Ohio doesn't bother with that, so cars can pollute however much they want and I get to breathe it all.

  4. Was behind a Genesis GV80 for a while early Sunday morning and also saw it parked at a rest area on I-90. Really like the taillight signature at night, for some reason the lights at night remind me of something Pontiac would have had at some point in time...

  6. Paul McCartney. Going to see Ringo Starr in Pittsburgh in a couple weeks, so I will have seen half of the Beatles. Was a lot of fun, though tired now from driving through the night getting home at 8 this morning..made for a lazy Sunday. I think I want to go back and a take a few days and explore the Finger Lakes region and Lake Ontario coast. I’ve been to Western and Central NY a few times in the past, love the greenery, hills and lakes. Went to Niagara Falls 20+ years ago, want to go back.

  7. Had a good quick trip to Syracuse...left yesterday just before noon at got back at 8am this morning. The Paul McCartney concert was great...amazing to see a 79 year old sing and perform for almost 3 hours..his backing band was solid. Great laser show and pyrotechnics on ‘Live and Let Die’. The pre- and post-concert traffic was awful--huge crowds on a college campus and narrow streets.. (took 1 1/2 hrs to get from the U of Syracuse Carrier Dome back to where I'd parked the rental car).... about a 6 hr drive home on I-90. First time I'd drive a current-gen Equinox--a very pleasant CUV. Easy to get in and out of, easy to see out of, comfortable (the seats had plenty of adjustment, not-over bolstered, didn't pinch my back). Easy to use controls. The pano roof w/ power shade works nicely. Good on gas I think--made it from Cleveland to Syracuse (about 350 miles) on a little over 1/2 a tank. (Alas, no CD player or CarPlay but did use Sirius XM to listen to the Beatles channel. I'd rent another.

  8. I did the donut thing TWICE on Friday. Just to be a goofball. I figured something like this national day calendar existed. I will have to download it and circle the events that interest me. I look at this in a different way. It's all about whether you "like" your salesperson or not. If you don't "like" them - and you usually know that fairly quickly - then it's hard for them to sell you anything you don't want, including some car you were investigating in a noncommittal, information gathering sort of way. It's easy to say NO. The few times I've bought - new (and keep them for a long time), they gave me a real good price right away, or I got a good price along with some rebate or card earnings applied, and I signed on the dotted line. I've got some great NO stories and, of course, most of them would have an adversarial quality. But I've got a NO story that stands out to me as funny. When I was looking at LaCrosse-Grand Prix-Monte Carlo, I went into a Pontiac dealership and was looking at some Grand Prixs. The salesman was really laid back and friendly. It turned out he was related to this family business and wasn't that motivated. He said something like along these lines, 'Open it up, check it out, I'll get the keys, and we'll take her for a spin. Just for the heck of it.' He was going, 'Yeah, drive on this freeway, step on the gas, check out this long ramp, drive down this road next to the river, blah, blah.' It's like he wanted to joyride and talk. I told him I had been in South Florida a month or so before, to which he responded, "Yeah, I was down in Lauderdale once ... had a great time chasing skirt." We drove back to the dealership, I thanked him, got his card, and drove off in my car laughing. In this case, I didn't want to give him the business because he was such a flake, in addition to deciding that I would not be buying that car of the three I was considering.

  9. Managed to spontaneously get an oil change slot at the dealer I got my car from yesterday. It's about an hour trip but it was good to get it on the highway and break it in some more. Just crossed 23,000 miles. They claim they washed my car so I figured time to get photos again. Sorry I take so many photos....just trying to get the shots that turn out the best....they aren't too different. lol
