  1. Happy birthday!
  2. something interesting would be to find a car liek the 240z and see what kind of mpg it could get with ...say, a 3.8 and 5 speed, an ls and 6 speed, the 2.0L turbo/5/6speed or the 2.4L DI w/ 5/6speed. any of these combos would keep the car fun to drive, and possibly lower the weight.
  3. looking at what? 10k back then = 90k now, if it was in a certain commodity. inflation is much worse than 25%. even at supposedly low 3% inflation per year, it'd be more like 34%. so while commodity prices have sky rocketed, this is a low increase in terms of $. isn't technology great! Edit, the avg(year) of the commodity was 25% higher than i thought for 2000. making 10k back then more like 70k now...
  4. put into a %, it's 21% more expensive than the aveo. but some of the earliest aveos were under 10K, right? that'd be a ~50% increase. did the cobalt start at ~13500? cause that's roughly the same increase to get to the cruze base (21%). (using website MSRP) would you complain at the NG corvette (with a name change perhaps? ) starting at 65500? (oops, used convertible price, sooo, take that ~5500 off) just some perspective. i wouldn't be surprised if more NG cars get increases of 10-20% in the next few years. is it truly progress? for the aveo to sonic, the price is a little shocking, but yes it looks, and spec wise should be a superior car of roughly the same size.
  5. hopefully the NG corvette will, or at least the engine it'll have. maybe the regal GS? the pontia... oh, wait. the oldsm... nope the satur....nope lol awwww
  6. the front is much more equinox in it's character...more rugged looking, but not sporty.
  7. priced to move...? didn't the aveo start @ ~10k? these are prices we'll have to get used to, just like from 70's into the 80's(that my parents saw). hopefully they do sell well though.
  8. The weight plays a big factor - Camry V6 Curb Weight - 3483 lbs Regal Turbo Curb Weight - 3671 lbs Regal GS Curb Weight - 3710 lbs well, the GS being ~ 40lbs isn't bad. but the ~200lbs more than camry is a fairly big '1 more person" to haul everywhere, all the time, in base turbo form.
  9. can't disagree. if it can compete with sandy bridge it'll be good, either speed or price wise, hopefully beat nehalem and then some. it'll be out before ivy bridge, which sounds amazing, but it'll be 1 man. node ahead and with those "3d" transistors(for intel). hopefully it's close to sandy bridge. some comments on there, said intel can do 1ghz too... but fail to show it's 1/2 the cores can do it at one time. wiki'd it and some can 1.1ghz turbo, but those are low power ones so they start out slow ~1.6ghz? up to 2.7 or so, that's not really a stretch and only 2 cores too, not "8" or even 4.
  10. http://www.fudzilla.com/processors/item/23065-fx-turbo-core-gives-1ghz-boost example shown is 8 core and deactivating 4 cores (2 modules), the other 4 cores can gain 1ghz in speed.
  11. notice it has an S on it... nice. San fran doesn't make circulation coins anymore.
  12. 1 more year till the DI engine?
  13. ah. gotcha
  14. a gas tax increase to 50cents won't matter if policies push gas into the $5+ range. he would have been braver to recommend a % tax or abolishing it. (deviation from the status quo) SMK, if this "better" road system happened, do you think more people would drive or less people?
  15. but the tax is only ~18 cents. assuming abolition, 15000 / 15 * 18 is only ~$180 per year. and less if the vehicle gets better mileage than that. if it's being bought for that reason, and replacing an older one, the older one sounds not to be very useful or comfortable anymore. so the taxes sound like it wouldn't be a big factor in their choice. where as if it goes from 18 to $1 even at 35 mpg (before and after) cost increase would be ~$428, that'd be a whole month payment on a short, or big, loan. how would that affect or solve us "becoming a banana republic"? ""We're too good a nation to let ourselves be a banana republic," Akerson said, warning that a default would be "unimaginable" and could hurt auto sales." if we're too good a nation, why is it almost staring at us in the face and making all the right decisions to continue that way?
  16. but more so for raising it. big SUV's are onyl a very small % of the market and assumign gas prices don't fall below 3.25 they will stay a small %, mostly people that realize that's the vehicle they NEED.. and people with more money than brains. the "cruze" market will only expand as people "adjust" to higher prices and realize 35+ MPG vehicles are the way to go if they are a small family to single and don't live in a mass transit area. the current rate is 18.4 cents /gallon. raised to ~50 is what, 30 more /gallon. given ~15000 miles /year and average of 20 mpg, factoring trucks, older cars, and some cars that can get decent mileage in that group, raises fuel costs ~$225/year. Social security raises don't factor in fuel and food "inflation". the only things he could say with out causing disdain coming his way is to propose to move to a % tax federally, or get the fed gov out of gas taxes.
  17. http://detnews.com/article/20110607/AUTO01/106070368/1148/rss25 "General Motors Co. CEO Dan Akerson wants the federal gas tax boosted as much as $1 a gallon to nudge consumers toward more fuel-efficient cars, and he's confident the government will soon shed its remaining 26 percent stake in the once-bankrupt automaker." From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20110607/AUTO01/106070368/GM-chief-pushing-for-higher-gas-taxes#ixzz1OcCw4hBL he doesn't understand what has happened and what will happen if nothing changes the other way. he's no bob lutz and needs to stay out of political policy recommendations "said President Barack Obama has "done a pretty good job on the economy," which, he said, was "a nightmare"" ... "GM's failure also would have led to Detroit's collapse, Akerson said. "I have not seen a city in this bad a shape since I went to East Berlin in 1969."" good thing he knew what the future would hold if something wasn't done.... why does that sound so familiar?!
  18. The DoE and ChryCo agree with your opinion wholeheartedly. Which is exactly why these trucks are being rigorously tested, and the program is lasting for several years. the DoE.... = huge waste of money.
  19. $3.55 here and to think that's almost 2 gallons if quarters were still 90% silver. "$6.5397186124 is the total melt value for the 1932-1964 silver quarter on June 03, 2011."

    Sonic Reviews

the red trim on the grill looks cheesy to me, and i'm not really a fan of colored rims (chrome, black, or polished please) hope it's successful, i could see many of these driving the roads in the next few years if it's done well.
  21. When someone goes back in time and re-writes the Bible. they have. it's called mormanism. haha
