  1. Actually, having just the right gear on a road course or in an autocross is sweet.... Do you really think I'd trade a slick shifting 5 or 6 speed in a Vette, Miata, S2000, WRX STI, 911, or whatever....for an old fashioned three speed? Seriously...are you stoned? did you miss the (revised)bolded part? aren't racing...turning it into an (effective) 4 or 5 speed. starting in 2nd, go to 3rd or 4th, then 5th, 6th, and maybe 7th for getting on the highway... or just using 2nd and 4th around town, just cruising.... (these are just guesses, i don't know where the rpm-speed range for these gears would be.) e.g. on flat parts of town around here, i can start in 2nd, go to 3rd and then cruise in 5th in my dad's 4.3L '95 c1500. why would you shift more in everyday driving if you don't need to?
  2. anything for the mighty mpg! i envision lots of people that aren't racing this to skip shift, turning it into a 4 or 5 speed. has under .5 ratios been made in a tranny? doesn't the "t56"(i know it's updated with a dif name) right now have a .5 ratio?
  3. saw a tesla today. probably only because there was an electric car show at the local airport recently.
  4. sad day for saab lovers if the protection is let go of. great day for suppliers as long as they don't get screwed...either way.
  5. socialism/communism and for practical reasons, fascism, indeed, same goes for misnomers such as gov insurance.
  6. it's a constitutional republic, with very little of the former left being the chains of the republic...“In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” Thomas Jefferson
  7. what is democracy, but a tyranny of the majority? but we're really talking about china as a political entity instead of what this would do to GM's IP, which if china truly is communistic, IP protective law has no place in china. china's position on this should be self evident, which is just as the article says, china wants to know the volt's "secrets" before it's sold there.
  8. They're not commies. They're totalitarian bumhuggers. That's why they have the 'my way or the highway' attitude. what's the difference, with the other communist examples we have....or any other totalitarian examples too?
  9. communism isn't just a political system, it includes economic ramifications. while headlines and such say china is moving more capitalistic, that might be true, but it's still run by commies who make the rules. edit... keeping the country poorer than it should be otherwise.
  10. and it's competition would be the trailblazer ss.... oh, wait.
  11. tanning
  12. but are they "getting rid" of the truly skilled ones that might bite them in the ass later? ford, back in the $5/day, would be paying "Every worker" (on the line?) $110K+ /year now a days and made the product achievable to "everyone". oh, wait, even; "By the 1920s, the price had fallen to $290", that's worth ~$26+k now a days. hm. weird. our cheap cars today are , what....~11K. technology is great! clarification: that yearly wage would be for a 52 week work year.
  13. new info? GM focused on increasing efficiency of the new engine by reducing engine friction and designing a new combustion system with a higher compression ratio. Friction was reduced by an average of 16 percent across the operating range through the use of a variable-displacement oil pump and an actively controlled thermostat. The redesigned combustion chamber combined with higher-flowing intake and exhaust ports reduce engine knock while increasing efficiency, as well as power and torque. 14. happy birthday!
  15. the new "240Z" if they produce it? or is that too presumptuous?
  16. happy birthday! do you become 67stang now?
  17. if i needed a new car and the sonic was really quite fun and practical. i could see that getting young and old (scion crowd) to seriously consider it.
  18. if this goes through i see their stocks taking a hit for a while, and GM is already down ~1/3 from where it IPO'd
  19. +1 drain us just like the USSR, economically.
  20. that's funny he puts up the mpg numbers. maybe not everyone buying the EB 150's care that much. if they did they'd buy the 3.7L version. i'm sure the EB is tons more fun to drive than the 5.3L based on power figures.
  21. hopefully this will be on the short list of getting the 2.5L quickly, just to keep the premium apperance of it's place. won't people cross shop this price with malibus?
  22. think the worst part of it is the round headlights and the grill, if i'm going to be specific.... in general, it's not pretty at all, unless you want to say, pretty lame. haha
  23. very cool. best i got with my 99 monte was ~37mpg in flat indiana with an average probably around 50mph. that's ~25% better than what it was rated.
