  1. Clearing out C7 inventory is more important than the 40 day strike. I suspect that the strike hurt other GM operations MORE than the resulting 90 day delay on the C8 Corvette.
  2. wow another crossover coupe. boy am i impressed.
  3. The upgrades are vital and should have been done three years ago. I doubt it will move the sales needle but it should incentivize Infiniti buyers to trade in for the infotainment upgrades. I personally doubt these upgrades would be put in a 2015-19 model.
  4. Will anyone really miss FIAT and Alfa Romeo? Hell no to FIAT and not really to Alfa Romeo. Will anyone miss Chrysler and Dodge? That is unknown. Rebadging Peugeot as a Chrysler or Dodge might work IF they replace the 200/Avenger or the smaller cars. The 300/Charger/Challenger would be a much harder sell to convert (and should not be rebadged Peugeot cars anyway). Jeep and RAM will be fine and ultimately left alone since that is where the CASH FLOW really is.
  5. I do remember an article from Car and Driver a few years back mentioning an all-black Cadillac CTS coupe as Vader's new car about five years ago. These days, I am not sure what would be suitable for a dark lord of the Sith.
  6. Too bad those record profits are derived from little to no investment in product. Then again, with the merger with Peugeot, many brands will be shed. The correct question is which ones WILL survive.
  7. THIS would have been a great Chrysler 200 and/or Dodge Avenger. Too bad the only midsize sedan buyers want are Camry Accord and maybe Altimas.
  8. Once the merger is announced and then approved, I wonder how many names are sent to the slaughterhouse. I doubt GM has been this big in 25 years.
  9. Yes it is happening: https://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2019/10/fiat-chrysler-peugeot-agree-to-merge/
  10. At least there is good news on the GM front despite the strike: https://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2019/10/gm-overcomes-strike-impact-to-beat-analyst-q3-earnings-expectations/
  11. Whack FIAT and Alfa Romeo first. Then merge with Peugeot. PSA will have to cut Opel down to size in order for the merger to actually work.
  12. $3 Billion is nothing to sneeze at. Then again, the UAW seems to want to get broken sooner than later. That strike was really costly and GM will need to somehow make this up. That means fewer USA factories opened in the long run.
  13. It is true that the larger crossovers (such as the Enclave) could use a significant remodel. But that leaves me with one question: How many Enclaves sell here in the USA vs. China?
  14. Almost. At least GM can shutter a few plants, including Lordstown OH and the one in Tonodowanda NY.
  15. I have no opinion concerning manual transmissions. Then again, manuals are no longer as common as they were 30 or 40 years ago. There is a reason automatics have dominated for decades. I would offer another reason: few people WANT manual transmissions in their cars or CUVs or SUVs or pickup trucks. Also, today's automatics are so good that a manual has a difficult time competing against a well-tuned automatic. The large trend towards EVs will make manuals even more scarce than they already are. In 1940 there were virtually no vehicles with an automatic transmission. I suspect that by 2040 there will be no true manual transmission in new vehicles out for sale.
  16. A smaller Enclave would be rather sad. Then again, without China, Buick is as dead as Oldsmobile.
  17. I though we down here in Florida were the only ones to suffer sinkholes. I honestly thought that western PA was a little more solid.
  18. Wow. The UAW gets all this, at a cost to GM of nearly $3 Billion. Most workers outside of the UAW would kill for half of this. If GM is smart, they will dump the UAW for a union-free workforce after this contract (preferably during a nasty recession).
  19. Probably not. Between energy efficiency and a sameness imposed on by engineers, I highly doubt it.
  20. Too bad Tesla expects everyone to pay BMW 3 series pricing in order to get one. If EVs are to take over Europe, we need EVs that are the price of a VW Golf, not a Tesla model 3.
  21. GM has not had 50% market share (in the USA) since 1980. You are correct in that V2V needs some real technical interoperability standards for it to work consistently.
  22. If only Nissan would sell a Rouge-sized version of the Leaf, it would outsell any Tesla on the marketplace. Too bad Nissan is not run very well these days.
  23. Coupe CUVs are still the worst auto trend in the last 50 years. Period. Get rid of them NOW.
  24. Apparently, several of the rank and file hate the new contract. There may be trouble ahead. https://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2019/10/proposed-gm-uaw-contract-faces-current-of-criticism/
  25. Selling Opel was the right thing to do, especially given the situation in the European market these days. In terms of the CAR itself, sure it would be better if there were decladded cars to sell since cladding usually looks bad on almost any car. As for GM overpricing, spot on. There needs to be a serious rethinking on GM's part when it comes to options. What GM should do is make the top of the line standard and make a couple option packages on each vehicle (that's it!).
