Jaguar News: Rumorpile: F-Type Could Offer An Electric Powertrain
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
Be interesting to see what they end up doing as I had read that they were considering going all electric and just forgoing ICE all together. -
Unlike Faraday Future which was thought up on a napkin and then went marketing flash with vaporware for an auto to raise cash till recently, Rivian Automotive was founded in 2009 by RJ Scaringe. https://www.linkedin.com/in/rj-scaringe-58355716 He has a PHD and Masters in Automotive Engineering from MIT. This guy is not going to fail. I think this will be the next Tesla of the auto world. https://www.cargroup.org/person/rj-scaringe/ RJ Scaringe founded Rivian in 2009 and led the company through a tough economic climate to secure substantial financing, recruit and scale an exceptional team, and establish the company’s product and technology platform. Mr. Scaringe excels in analyzing highly complex systems, combining deep analytical capabilities with a system-based development methodology. Mr. Scaringe earned his MS and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was a member of the research team in the Sloan Automotive Laboratory. In leading Rivian, Mr. Scaringe works to maintain a highly collaborative environment, and his hands-on approach drives innovative thinking into all aspects of the business and company culture. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivian To say this guy has done his homework, secured his funding and gathered multiple government grants and secured the full manufacturing facility at Normal, Illinois which was a former Mitsubishi Motors auto plant which has 2.4 million sq ft of manufacturing room along with a functioning paint shop, robotics, stamping machines and other production equipment. This will allow Rivian to potentially leapfrog ahead of Tesla in ramping up production using established and tested manufacturing methods from the auto industry. I honestly expect them to ramp up and deliver auto's for sale much faster than Tesla has done. The keep quiet skunk works project till they had a production ready product was the smartest thing RJ did for Rivian Automotive.

While I do believe we have a major correction coming for the stock market and a recession that is overdue, I do not think it is that dire when you see a company properly managing by adjusting what they need in manufacturing sites and jobs to survive and make a profit. GM has had poor mgmt for so long that now that they have a hard as nails CEO, it scares people. Yet this is how and what is needed to survive long term.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2018/11/27/mary-barra-gm-general-motors/2116833002/ This is spot on and I agree CEO Barra is doing the right thing by GM. We cannot keep making the same stupid mistakes of the past and she has grown GM while Ford has fallen 44% in value and is about to implode on debt. All politicians are idiots that cannot seem to exert self control and live within a balanced budget. What Potus 45 said over and over attacking companies, CEO Barra is making sure GM will not have to go back to the GOV for a bailout in our oncoming next recession. Rock on Barra!

Ya know he is just about numbers, maybe we are expecting too much in regards to understanding how torque and HP work together to move an auto.

I almost got a 1991 Chevrolet Beretta GTZ but then drove the 1991 Ford Escort GT built by Mazda and it rocked and destroyed the Beretta for less money. 1991 Beretta GTZ 1991 Ford Escort GT Had the GT for almost 100,000 miles before my wife was rear ended by a DOT truck and totaled it.

You call it a joke so you get a down vote. Just like I support EVs and you down vote me. Just keeping the Democracy flowing with balance.

Yet Cadillac just posted this on Instagram and the battle over is it alive or dead or just plugin is going on. CT6 Love does exist The more I think on this is that the CT6 production will move to Lansing where you will have the CT3, CT5, CT6 or 7 or whatever they decide to relabel it along with the Camaro built there especially since you have the TT V8 announced and supposedly in or going into production?

https://www.bmwblog.com/2017/02/21/bmw-augmented-reality-visualiser-launches-google-play/ Interesting, BMW has a Visualizer app on Google play that allows you to build your BMW the way you want in the colors you want. GM should do this, then you can just order it or have a search done for the auto the way you want it.

Was, according to info on the web it was moved in 2012 to Lansing Grand River assembly plant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lansing_Grand_River_Assembly They produce all the RWD cars there which is ATS, CTS and Camaro. So in the near future we will have CT3, CT5 and Camaro produced there.

Yes that armrest looks narrow, but the truck based on specs posted by William is 79.33 inches wide. F150 is 79.9 inches, Chevy is 80 inches and Ram is 82.1 inches. So I would say the seats could be wider / bigger. It will be interesting to see it in person.

https://www.rivian.com/ Their website is showing 1 day and a little over an hour till we see their SUV the R1S. http://products.rivian.com/suv/ Gotta love the 3ft wading depth of the pickup truck. Gotta wonder what the rectangle is on what we would usually call a firewall. Wonder if it is access to the Fronk?

LOL, you can tell alot from this photo: You can clearly see the accelerator and brake, that right there tells you there is way more legroom than in autos that have the dash connect to the center console. I know for a fact this has more room as it is much like the 90's suburban. I have more leg room in my 1994 suburban than in my 2006 escalade esv due to that center area being more open. This look at the dash shows you the large amount of legroom to enjoy. I have not ever had a headroom problem in a truck, so that is a true assumption by me that I will have plenty of headroom. Hopefully on the release at LA we will learn the actual leg, hip, head room sizing for this truck.

Yet they are underutilized plants that are probably costing more money than they make and with a JIT / Agile manufacturing system, you can do more with less plants. This makes sense. I totally agree with you in regards to the workers, but the North America market is not going to grow like China will and sedans are going to dwindle, not die, but no need for the large diverse selection out there based on how people live now. I expect the German brands to reduce car types too in the near future. LaCrosse, Impala, XTS and Cruze I agree will probably die. Volt is also understandable as if your over 5'8" tall it is really cramped in the front and especially the back. The VOLT power train will live on in a CUV replacement is my guess. I do think your statement of a Malibu Hybrid Volt Power train makes sense as does a rebadge for Buick of the same auto.

I am actually not surprised by the CT6 being discontinued. The car is great for a car, but really does not bring anything new or revolutionary to the car market that is dwindling as most move to CUV / SUV type auto's or Crew Cab pickups to support family hauling and stuff hauling. My gut is telling me we will see some very big surprises out of GM with their EV auto launches. Heart and soul of auto's in the future will be Hybrids and pure EVs with speed.

Totally makes sense to close underutilized plants. The golden age of Industrialization are over for the US and the growth will be in China for GM. Efficient Agile manufacturing will come with the new skateboard platform GM will probably use for BOLT 2.0 and all other EV / Hybrid auto's. My gut says this is only the beginning for all automakers. Expect this same kind of announcement to become common over the next 18 months as auto companies realign production for the new global market change to EV/Hybrid auto's.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2018/11/26/gm-general-motors-plant-closures-job-cuts/2113275002/ Yup interesting read, but also understandable as the plants mentioned in the story support auto's that are dwindling in sales fast. QUOTE: The Detroit-based automaker said it would end production by the end of 2019 at its Lordstown Assembly plant in northeast Ohio; its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in southeast Michigan; its Oshawa Assembly plant in Ontario; its Baltimore Operations parts plant; and its Warren Transmission Operations plant in southeast Michigan. Now I will say that some of the pictures in the USA Today story are cool and my favorites are as follows: Buick Y-job concepts from 1938 1951 Buick XP-300 concept 1951 Buick Le Sabre concept 1961 Mako Shark Corvette 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado and first FWD auto.

Was a bible thumping IDIOT! Now his stupid family wants the Indian government to recover his body from an Island that was off limits to the world as they told the Indian government to stay away. He ignored as he just had to bring the world of his god to the savages according to his family here in WA. Totally Looney bin people. He got what he deserved and life will move on. He attempted to go there in 2015 and 2016 and the Indian government stopped him both times and expelled him. This time he took the long way by fisherman boat and then paid to get close and as such paid with his life. No tears for stupidity. We live in what I consider the worlds greatest country and if you want religion, your welcome to it, if you do not you're welcome to that as well, but no where does our country or religion say you have to push / force your beliefs on others. I will never get this idea that people all have to believe the same as others. Crazy stupid ignorance.

Very excited for this pickup truck. I do wonder why the 180 kWh battery pack drops HP. I get it has more range, but I see no reason to drop the HP compared to the 135 kWh battery pack. Like the Cyclone look. Love the open roominess of this truck! Gotta love a nice big Frunk! Like the ability of the tailgate in this truck. Cool storage area that also looks accessible from the inside. Great Dash Gotta love the power plug ports and USB C ports in a protected spot in the bed for external use. Bed does look short, some will probably have problems with a 4'6" long bed with tailgate up. For most city and suburban dwellers, I think this will work just fine.
