Wonder how the Solid State no Cobalt batteries will play. I think this will be the bigger game changer than reducing the amount of Cobalt in an existing battery.

And CR has found a braking issue with the Tesla 3 that Musk says will be fixed via a software update. Consumer Reports will NOT Recommend Tesla 3. https://www.consumerreports.org/hybrids-evs/tesla-model-3-review-falls-short-of-consumer-reports-recommendation/

@balthazar I think Musk could loose more than half the deposits once other OEM EV's start showing up this summer and fall. I think his days are numbered in the current form as a car company.

Yes, I would agree with you that most do, but try telling someone in the suburbs that his new $80,000 baby has to sit outside cause it is too big.

Yup, watched a number of videos that talk about the 79.9" wide and that this new truck is only 1.5" longer but the wheels are 4" farther apart to greatly increase interior room. Yet no one talks about the Height. Yet people all mention that it is taller. Interesting as Drew is correct that an 8' garage door does not take into account the 4" arm of a garage door opener. H'mmmm ?
-
Makes me wonder what kind of fun Performance parts will come out for this Turbo 4 banger. ? So are these hitting that Magic 8 ft tall mark of most common garage doors?

Mercedes is your Grandpa's Brand too and they have no EV. The speed difference for the majority of people is insignificant and the Bolt can go faster if you put it in Sport mode. Interesting how no one really talks about the fact that you can take a second off that magic number you like to use too much on 0 to 60 if you are in Sport mode that then puts the Bolt on a level plane with the Tesla 3 that is more cramped than the Bolt.

I tried my best to find commercial printers, I know they exist as Jim said I can this summer come up and visit him and he will show me the commercial Metal 3D printers. Like everything, if it can handle the needs of airline planes and get the sign off by the FAA, I would think it could handle being a part on an auto.

More evidence the American economy is starting to overheat and we are headed for a correction. Shipping costs have almost doubled in recent years. Biggest problem is the huge increase in trucking product around America. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/america-doesn’t-have-enough-truckers-and-it’s-starting-to-cause-prices-of-about-everything-to-rise/ar-AAxAyYC?li=BBnb7Kz $80,000 a year starting wage for a Trucker. ?

So just checked the web site, $3,500 difference between the 4 door and 2 door starting price. $40,995 4 Door $37,495 2 Door $1,000 to upgrade from V6 to Turbo 4, from 285HP to 368HP. You loose the 6sp manual and must have the $2,000 8sp auto. So $3,000 price increase. ? This I do not get, you have to pay now $1,295 for the steel bumpers otherwise you get plastic bumpers over aluminum stops. What idiot would not have metal bumpers for a serious off road auto. Like that they now offer a Hard Top Headliner insulation package. $495 2018 Wrangler Rubicon 4x4 2-Door in Mojito color $53,310 ?

OK, Learned a few things and checked with my brother in-law who heads up the Boeing propulsion project for the Dreamliner. They have been 3D metal printing for the last few years core suspension parts and mounting parts for the engines and the huge fans are 3D metal printed. Save considerable on metal waste, built stronger and lighter being superior parts. I can see this as a way for GM to reduce weight and have much cleaner suspension parts and other body, frame, power train parts moving forward. Some good links to read up on and see demos on 3D metal printing. https://all3dp.com/1/3d-metal-3d-printer-metal-3d-printing/ https://markforged.com/metal-x/ This site shows a wide variety of printing, there is a great story also on NCSU (North Carolina State University) that has figured out how to 3D print using Glass. https://3dprinting.com/metal/ I am excited by what we are seeing as a future way to creating items faster and better.

I am wondering the same thing, I think it would be for a superior die to create the molds, but one can only wonder. Gonna search for this info more.

Fiat News: FCA Emails Possibly Suggest Alleged Use of Illegal Software
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
And you ignore all the toxic by products the Diesel engine puts out. These engines are very dirty in the configuration that the germans sold them in compared to the treatment systems that did clean them up. Yet with that said, today's advances have shown that diesel is not the efficient king it used to be. Moving forward in the 21st century, Hybrids and electrics will continue to improve and replace diesel and petro autos. -
So funny how you twist and take everything out of context.

Love this latest News release by GM: http://www.gm.com/mol/m-2018-may-0503-lightweighting.html Advanced Software Design Technology Leads GM into Next Generation of Vehicle Lightweighting. GM goes into details about their newest disruptive technology. Rather than cast or many older tech ways of building parts, they have formed an Alliance with Autodesk to use advanced AI-based generative design technology with 3D printing advancements to build parts that will help lighten and transform future vehicles. Think about this, massive 3D printer at the repair show, no more ordering up parts, just grab the latest 3D template for a part and print it out, install, repair done. Very cool

I love that Chevy has a dedicated Performance website for all things performance upgrades, power trains, etc. Better yet is The Block web site. Covering all events, custom auto builds, etc. http://www.theblock.com/?article=4754798a-1933-4af0-858f-83eaa0e9a8c4#news So many awesome rides and builds going on. 100 years of Trucks at the Spring autofair. Totally cool http://www.theblock.com/?article=1e31188b-30c2-4f2e-8e36-6374d7b0bd92#news

Disagree, Going to a small car is always a Downgrade to me. Luxury, roomy SUV / CUV are and always will be an upgrade to me. Even a full size Truck is an upgrade over a car. MHO

Not really, in comparison of the base Tesla to a Fully loaded Bolt which comes in at the general same price point, If you can get a Bolt with the fed discount and yet no Tesla, why wait if you want and need an auto. Clearly 65,000 plus and growing Tesla 3 reservation holders are doing this in California and elsewhere as the value is there in the Bolt. Some good fair even headed comparisons on the Tesla 3 to the Bolt. http://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-model-3-chevy-bolt-comparison-pictures-2018-4 They have plenty of negative and positive things to say, but the review made this point over and over: "I also flat-out loved driving it. I blasted in and out of New York City twice, rocketed around the streets of Gotham, darted through traffic, and cruised along the highways of New Jersey. I enjoyed just driving it around the quiet streets of the suburb where I live. The steering is quick and responsive, and the handling is sharp enough to provide the confidence you need when surfing that sweet EV torque." Quote the ending: "But the Bolt punches well above its weight, while the Model 3 should be better for how much its costs at the upper end of its specifications. Pricing is also an issue. Right now, you can have any Model 3 you preordered after a long wait — as long as it starts at $42,000. (Tesla isn't manufacturing the $35,000 base vehicle.) If you want the base Bolt, Chevy will gladly sell it to you for $37,500. So if you want to get technical, the only true mass-market all-electric vehicle in the market is the Bolt. Both cars are fun to drive, in their own ways. The Model S is stable, sporty, and fast off the line, but the Bolt, hardly a slug, affords a kind of video-game-like driving experience, especially when zipping around a city like New York. And not for nothing, the Bolt hit the market a year ahead of the Model 3, demonstrating that big slow GM could, to a certain extent, beat Tesla at its own game and deliver a less expensive long-range EV, at least initially. So I have to call it a dead heat." I would agree with the last statement, while they do not compete in the same category, there are plenty of things the Bolt does right and above it's class. There are plenty of things the Tesla does that should be better for the price you pay. I agree that it is a dead heat right now. Another good read by Forbes which is also balanced: https://www.forbes.com/sites/brookecrothers/2018/02/25/chevy-bolt-2018-vs-tesla-model-3-best-small-ev-and-most-popular-ev-cheat-sheet/#3b2186c15578

Fiat News: FCA Emails Possibly Suggest Alleged Use of Illegal Software
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
Another reason Diesel will eventually go away in cars period and eventually trucks as the auto industry figures out how to build better Hybrid power trains that can handle the torque needed to move trailers and heavy loads for trucks and cars are already done by the Hybrid cars out now.
