    I agree with what you have stated up to the over stated price of the Bolt. Yes getting the price of a 225 mile range compact CUV down to 20-25K would be great. Instead you have a $37,500 auto that with federal incentives is $30,000. I know many who are excited by the BOLT. This will probably end up being my first electric car purchase as the wife loves the design, look and the fact she can easily plug it in and charge it without having to run to a gas station. Perfect for going to work and running errands. Unless Tesla goes to a new platform so they keep the fed discount, the Model 3 is based on the S and they are nearing 200,000 units sold which is when the fed rebate ends. Tesla could have a hard time bringing the Model 3 to market and selling it at a price people are willing to pay. I want Tesla to survive the same as others have mentioned here so that it continues to grow the EV segment. I also believe that like you stated, in 10 to 15 years we will see the EV become a dominate product. Imagine a Jeep Wrangler where instead of carrying extra cans of gas, you just carry extra battery cells that can be swapped out. The whole approach to minimizing the impact on this planet will be helped by moving to EV's and the newest 450amp and 550amp batteries are going to help us get there.

    Maybe it is the cameo to cover the car so guess I have to wait and see but it still looks like the same bland Jelly Bean style of so many cars right now.

    Raises hand, De-Badge Please! I think the 4x4 decals are a bit gody and would look better with none or with ones that just did not stand out as much. But my personal tast is to have a clean monochromatic auto.

    As long as they are profitable as an over all company they will spend on stupid niche products that I bet if you really broke it down are NOT profitable and should be killed off. I bet MB and BMW will end up having to clean up their portfolio in the next 5 years and kill off many niche products that are just not supportable as they really never had a true business case but more of a we have extra money so lets tweak this car crazy and see who buys attitude.

    It will be interesting to see how long they live considering that Europe after this diesel scandal is now considering raising the emissions hurdle. I could not find anything other than stories about discussions. Yet if they get their way, the life of the V8 and V12 could be shorter than it has been in the past.

    Did you even watch any of the EV Drags? Yes some are freakin funny, but Don's run is awesome and that would be freaking fun, no joking for any speed freak, the true EV dragsters kill the speed and time faster than a petrol does.

    Interesting wonder if any of the auto's will not be sold back or fixed but held by people looking to have a rare collectible. This covered what 5 to 7 years of auto's or some crazy range, but that is a number of versions that will just go away. Course I never thought of VW auto's as collectible so this could be a mute point. Still interesting to think of years of auto versions being taken off the road, crushed and then auto fans have a void between legal to current legal auto's.

    My gut is telling me that VW will be buying back and crushing the half million illegal diesels in this country. I cannot see their lack of details fix becoming reality. One if memory serves me correct there is the 325,000 that are sold with NO EMISSIONS cleaning and so a whole new emissions system is a fail from the start. The rest of the auto's if they cannot supply a clear patch to fix it, then they might as well just buy them and crush them as well.

    Sad but not unexpected. Australia has gotten so expensive to build stuff in. Truly a pure service country. Be interesting to see what it will take to reduce the cost of doing business in that little country.

    I would disagree with you about the Escalade being painted into a corner. You can easily as proven by theTT V6 replace the V8 in the escalade with the TTV6. You can also due to the room under the body between the frame put in a pure electric power train and battery packs or go the VOLT way with a Hybrid powertrain. The Escalade is an awesome superior SUV to any of the other makes out there and you can easily change the powertrain. I would have expected BMW to do this but they seem to not want to unless this is about just the I6 engine. On hind site I guess we could take this as they will continue to improve the engine but use it till they are forced to drop it or finally add alternative fuel power trains. The style of the Escalade has continued to improve with each version where the BMW has stayed stagnant for the last 20+ years on style.

    While that is a super long time if you're traveling and stop at a hotel at night and sleep for 8hrs, wake up, eat and leave in another hour... 9-10hrs of charge isn't all that bad. Plus, it isn't like you got there at 0%. I assume that would be a good 10% to 85% charge? I'm just thinking of the mid-travel type of situation because other than that 700 miles of range will cover anything else. I look at it like this, so if I was only going to be able to sleep 8hrs and then have to leave, I would on that 110 plug in gotten 60% back in charg into the battery pack. From Edmonds Washington to Redding California is 610 miles for me. So this is the mid point in my trip to the LA area to visit family. I have my favorite hotel there and they include a breakfast buffet. So for me it really would be more like 10hrs or so of charging. Then I have a 568 mile drive to my aunts house. So having the dual battery packs on my suburban would allow me to charge and still make a decent two day drive. Plus that is not including that when I pull into a rest stop on I5 or stop for food that I would not plug in my suburban to charge. So I do not see it as a big deal, just need to plan for where I stop and plug in.

    So in other words, they will milk old tech and dated styling as long as badge snobs are willing to let them be parted with their money. Cannot blame them for taking the easy way out.

    We'll Lucky for me being on the west coast pretty easy to find a fast charger 220 or a DC 440 fast charger, so would not take long. But if I did have to do it on a 110 outlet, then yes you are looking at 14hrs.

    Fear mongering in this thread made it into a range anxiety thing...even a reliability thing...FAP TURBO has got the right idea... But..when humanity has no knowledge of something, humanity fears it, ridicules it and is biased against it. And yes SMK...when people are pressed for time, and in today's society, it seems that they are always pressed for time...people hardly drive long distances anymore, the take the airplane... And if they must drive for whatever reason, people actually rent cars...in other words, people hardly ever use their personal vehicles for long distance traveling anymore...but...it makes for a more interesting thread to whine and complain... This is the latest whine fest at Cheers and Gears....be sure to turn in tomorrow...as these are the days of our lives at Cheers and Gears. That is how the world turns, at Cheers and Gears. So you're saying I should spend something like a minimum of $80k on a Model S, but if I want to go on a road trip of any distance, I should spend more money to rent a gas powered car SO I CAN TRAVEL AT MY OWN WHIM? Very sound reasoning there. Holds the Tesla up as an $80k toy that has to be put away when shit gets real. No whining here. O get a real auto like a Suburban, convert it to Eletrical and put in the proper battery packs that give you a 600 to 700 mile range. Enjoy your road trip and charge at the hotel that night.

    I hear it can handle that biohazard gas just fine for the Model X. But with the Fear that some have shown here about EVs, I do not think their biohazard filter can handle irrational brain waves.

    ^ I agree, Rich can afford it, so why not be the first out there with all bleeding edge tech. Why 4K when they have small 8K screens now and cameras. I also would love the emblem and other touches milled out of a solid billet. Can you imagine the feel of a solid door handle rather than the plastic ones many auto's have. I could enjoy some luxury like that.

    A lot of it comes down to money. Michigan, unfortunately, doesn't have money to go out and fix the roads properly - they tend to patch them with the hope it will last. If I remember correctly, the state has increased the gas tax as a way to increase the amount of money for the roads. Here is the current list from lowest to highest by state of the gas tax. I sorted based on normal petrol second column is diesel. WOW and I thought washington was high on gas tax, nothing compared to others including Michigan.

    You can't be serious man. I know you like certain companies more, but seriously? This is the same kinda attitude many people have against... hell you name it, any American car company no matter how credible their efforts or how lauded their products. I have no vested interest with this car, I would not even consider a single car from this segment of compact RWD sedans/coupes... but I respect them nonetheless. They control the luxury market. They really do. And everyone else is measured against them. I am serious and I also hold this attitude against all the American brands as they have also done the bland thing more than once. Only in the last few years have some makers finally changed to design language that differentiates themselves from the pack. BMW, MB, Toyota and Honda are the worst offenders of using the same look on everything and pretty much killing it. Toyota wins for having the bland cars under their Toyota label, Bland with an ugly mouth on Lexus and just plain puking ugly in the Prius family. This whole Coupe style on everything is so over done. This is not very inspiring at all. I do agree with SMK and I know others here have voiced the same that the model numbers should also reference the size of the engine. In this regards I think many of the makers from bare bones starter car to ubber luxury needs to reboot their naming so it falls in line with their engine size.

    I am happy to have another American Brand since the GOV sold out Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep to the idiot Italian auto pukes that cannot run a business to save their life other than rape it for all the money to try and bring back a dead brand. Over all while happy that Tesla exists, sad it has such an UGLY design Language and that they seem to have delivered on only a fraction of what they have promised. Long term excited for the EV market, short term. I pass on Tesla and wait to see and drive a BOLT.

    OK, so City and Highway is higher but the combined does not change for MPG? Interesting package choices required to get this power train. Also, why bother if your only going to do 700 and sit back and monitor the market? Might as well put in a small diesel V6 and get better mileage or at least do a real VOLT power train in the trucks. After all you have plenty of space under the bed for the battery packs.

    Yup. mine right now sits at 402. In 2006 pulled the engine and built it out to be a 402. Thing pulls and moves the Suburban like grease lighting.

    While I can see California, I think Detroit is a far more realistic testing area with the 4 seasons and their Black Hole Potholes.
