Buick News: Buick LaCrosse Goes Upscale With Avenir
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
The Avenir models just don’t do anything for me. Now, will the Regal get Avenir trim???? -
I’m totally with Casa on this one great topic. I think greatly that while the great Navigator has finally been made great again... I’m not sure if it really is a great again game changer. The great ball is in Lincoln’s great court, and while the great Raptor engine is great...again. I am a great V8 person when it comes to big fat stupid great SUVs, and Lincoln not having a great V8 could only be made great again if they friggin’ made a great EV 250 mile plus great luxury great fist of great pain, like great DFelt said about how great Cadillac can make the Escalade even greater again. Just because it’s great again doesn’t make it great again. YES.

I doubt that EVs will ever be priced nominally exactly like a comparable gas power car. Tesla still does that ‘gas savings’ hack on their purchase offers for to lower the payments for finance/lease... So some of that mitigated expense of potentially lower operating costs will still get wrapped into MSRP as most automakers will do to reduce the horrendous losses of having to compete against their own bread and butters with some electric gluten free toast and non-hydrogenated margarine.

What if they had credits that had an inverse relationship to the MSRP of the EV? Cheaper EV’s like Leaf getting the biggest credit ($7500 like right now), then a second tier for Bolt (up to like $5000), then Model 3 ($3750) and then cars like Model S and upcoming Mission E from Porsche getting ZERO EV purchase tax credit. Interesting bit of social engineering thought no? Would it all auto mfg’s to prioritize more affordable EV’s for the masses?

NAFTA The latest rounds of the renegotiation talks have started, and they have an emphasis on U.S. demanding new content rules. Just to summarize, the U.S. wants more domestic content, which means NAFTA region countries, and 50% mandatory U.S. content, just to name a few of the changes. This hopefully isn't too political of an issue, it's more to do with how you feel about the rules should be for automakers and their suppliers doing business in America, Canada and Mexico. I think the U.S. demands - on paper, atleast are fair. U.S. is the largest market for autos in NAFTA region. I want to hear more of just how you feel about this issue. Feel free to source links where more of your opinions can be expanded and read more about.

All these fake exhaust tips integrated into bumpers on all the cars these days are really starting to annoy me. They look cheap, they get dirty much faster because they're in the exhaust stream in the case of models that have the real tips behind them, an they're usually made of plastic chrome. I used to ask myself "why do this???" , and of course the answer was that it cuts costs. Like the Volkswagen ATLAS and Tiguan, they have these chrome rectangles pieces with a moudling plastic inner, made to look like an exhaust!!! WTF?!! The real tips are actually behind the bumper.... Even the new Lexus LS. Same goddamn deal, you actually even see the real tips that look cheap because they're not plated, and then you see the fake tips that are part of the bumper....I see it in new Mercedes sedans....everywhere....it triggers like an OCD like rageeeee attack in my mind. FUCK OFF YOU FAKE EXHAUST TIPS!!!!

Interesting. I imagine a lot of this is platform sharing to spread the tech among the brands. So will Cadillac get the high performance EV motors (preferably in-wheel for torque-vectoring) and big, fat battery packs to power them?

The Pacifica oddly enough is the one of few FCA vehicles I would have no issue getting CPO. Especially 2018 MY+ as they have finally gotten the 9 speed right with the newest model out as of late. One thing I hope Chrysler does do, is make the future Pacifica Hybrid an AWD model with electric rear axle. That would be a great win, the only AWD minivan is the Sienna. The Hybrid Pacifica is a better value than the Odyssey Elite. Sure you don't get LED lights and some other features, but you get 50% better mileage, and with tax incentives that if you can qualify for, will cost less.

Cadillac News: 2018 Cadillac XTS Puts on A CT6 Face
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
I think this XTS refresh will keep it going for a many years still. I like the look a lot, just not the profile though. -
Apparently one of the reason why the weight loss isn't something to write home about is actually the frame. Ford did a lot of the aluminum work on the body to reinvest weight back into the vehicle. I predict that the 200 lbs is an honest answer, as in, yeah, new F150 platform, but we properly luxed this truck out, and made the frame super beefy. The Expedition loses up to 300 lbs with the body material swtich. Now competitively, it seems like the Slade has to only do two things, refresh it's interior, and get the new tranny, plus improve it's ride. I don't see a horrible mass of buttons, hell, this may be the best iteration of car audio and HVAC controls I have seen on an American luxury utility yet. I like the adherence to the concept, that is in a way, a move that keeps Lincoln credible. Now the dash top tablet, it's a tacky look, but it is the same screen they used on the concept, so we knew it was going to be like that for well over a year, and with people mounting their phones on to the dash like that on older cars....it's just a sign of the times that people love to have a tv they can watch football on while driving.... I think this is a good product, it has the right amount of power as the stand alone powertrain for now, and it is the first Lincoln that I would think is convincing as a complete Lincoln.
-
It is going to tke quite a few years. And there are not many domestic luxury options out there. But the imports all in some way huddle along the same lines, or have similar turf wars. Having options is one reason alone why sales are harder for Cadillac. I have no clue what Cadillac should do, it seems like they can get away with both feet in the water, but does anyone even expect a true S-Class rival to all of a sudden create a dent in S-Class sales? I don't think so. The new LS is considered one of the few non-German compeition, and that takes a reputation to build up that car, but Lexus let it rot for too long. I think Cadillac is better off building more high-end SUVs and crossovers. Stick to what you know you can always be good at. I think the S-Class rival needs to in itself not be targeted at the S-Class. More like make a low volume Escala production vehicle, and make it truly aspirational. Make it more of an S600 Maybach competitor. But GM has to be willing to put money into its interiors, and there is not one GM vehicle which I think has the best interior in its class, regardless of price.
-
There's a big problem with this Equinox, and it's the Top-end pricing. Anybody looking at this as a legititmate contender to the CR-V and it is, will find that even with having a turbo engine standard, top-end models lose value compeletly to the Honda, and it's a juggernaut in this segment. When Honda can deliver a larger vehicle, with a more potent engine and more features, and more fuel economy and a lower price to boot, plus better resale....I find it conceivable that a major redesign was done. But honestly, I recognized this trend recently. Almost all of GM's new sedans or coupes are truly excellent. But their crossovers are just merely competitive in their segments. Yeah, go ahead combine the incoming Terrain, but that's supposed to be a near-luxury crossover, and it gets the 1.5T standard too. With the diesel and 2.0T not even out yet, crossing the $40k barrier with a resized, no longer mid-sized crossover is a little tough. Plus, what the hell is that kind of value when a nice Traverse can be had for a little more change?
-
Well, I hope it does well. But I hope there is some actual utility with the wagon too. For example, the Volvo V60 is an appalling example of a excellent looking wagon, but almost no gain in utility besides having a hatch, and no parcel shelf from a sedan.

Fitness thread: All topics related to personal health and wellness
Suaviloquent replied to Suaviloquent's topic in The Lounge
I'm baccccck!!! (Okay not really but, yes lurking all the same time and again). So, I've been going at a slower pace, job, other things, but. I made it to my first finish line. I am at or below 15% body fat now. I am now 157 lbs, and I am as strong as I have ever been. My most recent mission now is to work towards the beloved ONE ARM push-up. One arm chin. Pistol squat! Okay, I am nowhere near where I need to be, but I am slowly but surely building to those. Also, again, cars are of almost no interest to me right now. Don't worry, I still wanna lick some Cadillac CT6's, Lincoln Conti's, mmmmmmm so tasty the Chevy Impala with the LTZ wheels and that blue paint. Yummy. Yup, so back to work! -
Sergio Marchionne is playing the automotive equivalent of Liar's Poker. But how many dollar bills has he already dealt? And it seems like no one is running cold cash down the drain like Volkswagen, so why chase that rabbit hole?

Jaguar News: Rumorpile: Jaguar XE SVR Could Boast 500 Horsepower
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
OHHHHHHH.... Looks like the Giulia Quad has some epic competition coming from Jaguar. If you want the Giulia, just get a Jag XE SVR and the 5 year Jaguar complete care thing. Well, if they extend that service package to the hi-po variants. With the Giulia Quad you get the Giulia, the car, the sexy tomato but nothing else. With this you get a nice comfort warranty for your British cat-tomato. -
Alfa Romeo Scraps Plans For Giulia Wagon :Comments
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Alfa Romeo
I expect the Quad's to have epic resales, since they just don't sell that many of them. I think Alfa could do a much better job being a brand like Porsche, which sells it's mystique and pedigree (even in trucklets like Cayenne and Stelvio) than a brand with volume sales ambitions like BMW, Mercedes. And then I would not scoff at the idea of escalation of commitment by Fiat. Though like a solid majority of Porche's sales are Cayenne + Macan + Panamera, but Stelvio is supposed to annihilate Giulia sales too.- 35 replies

I got a new phone recently, the old way past sale date, sitting-on-too-long temporary that became not to temporary flip jobber I had has replaced by a iAte an Apple today 7 times plus. Not my first choice, but the too many Pixels from Googs felt a bit flimsy without a bulky case and lack of any water resistance, heh, my upside on the Crapple was a bigger discount actually and one and done economics of having better resale years down the road. Also, I recognize I have disappeared largely from here. Work has been somewhat taxing and I have not felt tired like this in a long time. I need to rest more, my sleep has been reduced and I go the gym not feeling 100%, but gutting through it, trying to get that mental toughness to the extreme. But I hit my limit, requested a day off today, and I don't really feel that much better. So I'll see how it goes.

Nice, fundamentally sound car. I think Ford can still do more with the Duratec 20 that was introduced in late 2010 when the '12 Focus came out. I thought Ford had replaced the PowerShift with the the 6F SelectShift. What do?

Alfa Romeo Scraps Plans For Giulia Wagon :Comments
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Alfa Romeo
I'm sure someone lookng at the Alfa's of today, like this, are ones looking for the experience. Tesla's have shown to not be as sturdily built as they could be, but the experience alone sells the cars. Does Alfa has the brand? I'm sure there is some mystique in Alfa, and the Quadrifoglio is one sexy tomato. But I can't help but feel...why not Quadriofoglio all the things? I'm sure every quadriofoglio they make will sell. Yet I think they will struggle to move the tame models off the lot. It's just the Italian way I think. Italian cars are all about being exotic. Who wants the bland non-sexy tomato version? Not many.- 35 replies
