  1. Yup, and all those modern cars entering the used market, yes, used market will have a boon. Aside from that, the hard times are approaching for the auto makes. Once this last bastion of boomers hit the hay, there's not gonna be many millennials buying cars. And if they are, well, I imagine they'll be underwater from day one. And stay that way unless they are within their means. Many are underwater when it comes to their cell phone. A car in the cards? NOPE.
  2. Sorry fur hijacking the thread, honestly, I find my inability to imagine just too strong to actually go through with the traditional: "If I had the money and had to pick between X and Y" I guess if I absolutely must, then I'd get the Mercedes. But only just. But yeah, Frisky, feel free to think that WE'RE ALL LAME.... SO LAME....
  3. The S90 was fully loaded. Fully loaded. I agree totally that the test was stupid to begin with, but Cadillac CT6 Platinum can't touch the Inscription or highly optioned S90 interior. Cadillac did not just simply charge less for their largest car. I wonder, why didn't Caddy send a Plat or Premium Lux trim to the COTY? Were they lulled into just sending the 2.0T because that was what the enthusiasts liked in the first tests? Well I guess GM is happy that the Bolt won. But hasn't MT or I guess others like heaped praise for the entire model line for the year? That would have been swell for GM, if they gave COTY to both the CT6 and the Bolt. But I guess those days are gone, and the CT6 isn't the Escala.
  4. Chevy MYLink and Buick/GMC Intellilink are just re-skinned versions of the same system, plus they retain hard buttons much more than the Cadillac. I think there was a lost opportunity to come back fully to buttons and knobs that Lincoln did recently. While the volume slider does match the overall design of the interior....functionally the better versions of the same system are to be found in less expensive products. But I guess complicated controls that look hi-tech and screem luxo in pics is the price of admission of being a luxury car.
  5. Happy Sunday Birthday to a MR.DFELT. Stuffed full of turkey, eh?
  6. I think they'd make a handsome profit from each one sold if they managed to tie the X-Class with the same rugged branding of the G-Class. In fact, I actually agree more with Frisky, because Mercedes is being rather conservative and taking the wait and see approach to how this truck fares elsewhere. I think the mid-size segment may become the most dynamic with fresh offerings, even with only 2 legitimate contenders with the Honda Ridgeline being a niche within a niche. I say bring in over, in spite of all the adversity, because sometimes automakers should do things that don't make sense on paper.
  7. I think that this is the one case where this truck would end up being very un-Mercedes like because of it's roots, as in terms of ride and handling, where the domestic trucks are unusually much stronger than any import. Even if it had a nicer interior than a Denali Canyon, it wouldn't really be that much better for the price they would charge for it. Add to that, I think it would just end up being lost in the showroom in a sea of much higher priced sedans and crossovers. Plus I think if they made it overseas, would it not be subject to the chicken tax?
  8. The complaints levied against the CT6 are all really the interior. For it's price it's a bargain, but against it's class its appears as a different kind of car for a different kind of mindset. I see the CT6 as Cadillac trying to recreate itself in a former BMW's image, yet it goes away from traditional Cadillac strong points too far. For a big Cadillac, it isn't a Cadillac throughout. The interior fails to deliver what the, svelte yet imposing exterior promises. And Cadillac being a bargain is in itself just the wrong approach. The Escalade can get pricey, but costs less than it's competition. But it has such an immense cost advantage because it shares yet masks so much that is borrowed from it's siblings. They spent too much effort on engineering a great car to drive, when most drivers of that size a car are not enthusiasts, but are mere badge braggers. Then the interior, while nice for the price, you know fully loaded, it just gets lost in a sea of Designo Mercedes, or Inscription trim S90. And I think the price comparison is the right thing, but why the CT6? Isn't there a CTS somewhere they could have borrowed for this test. The real secret is that this test was a convenient coincidence - all 3 cars were in the COTY test. And tossing in the G90 would have made it an even better bargain than the S90.
  9. Hmmm....can I say this? I find both vehicles just not enough. I would rather they be priced like $500k (because the person buying these can afford both at the same time), but like Balth says, they are also then more concept car like. The Bentley is 12 years old in terms of body in white and underlying structure. I do like the interior design. It looks classy, and it can stay that way. But I wonder, like, from the Escala concept, I like the idea of high quality tweed instead of leather on the seats. It's different, that's for sure. But that interior concept strikes me as something very clean in looks. And the off-white pillars, plus grey fabric, and selective use of cowhide, dead-tree and fake metal was astonishingly nice. The Merc, while I also do like the interior, I find this front end ugly to me. Okay, if I have to make a choice, it's the Buick Cascada. Now that's a luxury carbio barge that is totally bespoke from anything else in that brand.
  10. Well, happy belated American thanksgiving eating binge, happy belated black friday spending binge, and happy saturday look at all the money wasted on food and crap you don't need day. Also, that moment when you voice chat with a friend, and they are intoxicated, they repeatedly ask you the same question over and over and over agian, even when you provide an answer, like 300 times. Ah, good days, all of them, always are.
  11. Eh, lots of makes make things that have nothing to do with their main business, and the the whole point of building a brand is to get away with things that would traditionally water down a brand. And yes, I do believe that the "Mercedes" brand is a luxury carmaker first, because that part of their product portfolio vastly outstrips the profits they make from the vans division.
  12. Where is the visibility? I mean look at those pillars!
  13. So they will have basically one product for each brand other than Jeep. Jeep is strong. But tough FE standards aren't going to make the next decade easy for Jeep if they don't put money back where it comes from. I see Fiat 500 and 500L getting the noose ever tighter around the neck, and the 500X, garbage as it is, is a stilted Fiat, so why not? They could just change the Chrysler brand to the Pacifica brand, and then have number based model line. With the hope they ever build anything else for that brand. And RAM? like the 1500 can't stay afloat as it is forever. There's a mid-cycle update to the F150 next year, GM has redesigns for 2018/19 MY and then Ford will have another gen F150 the same time RAM gets their next 1500. And my bet is that they've pretty much done the design freeze by now, because it's very costly to continuously change design over and over.
  14. Hey it's not that hard a squeeze into the back of the Fiesta. I've sat in one. Once. Okay, alright the backseat is also garbage, but it's half as garbage as the 500. Twice as less of a waste! There is an inherent advantage when you tote other people around, they'll never ask for a ride again, given the damage dealt is permanent. With 500, you never get the chance to torture someone in the back. Let us all hear the wails of REPENT! While the extra space just entices you to spend just that much more at Costco or any club warehouse deal, or IKEA.
  15. It's a tough market to penetrate even with penetration pricing, and the fanatical loyalty towards the domestics in general, let alone the indentured service to a single domestic brand, probably nixed the chance of this truck ever coming here.
  16. I think the Taco and Lorado are going to be much closer in real world driving in off-road ability, but the diesel will be a nice package for a comparison, but one that pushes the price to places never seen before in the midsize pickup realm. I wonder if Mercedes brought the X-Class here, how much would it cost all loaded up? $70K? If this reaches $55k, then that would actually be something fun to see.
  17. Why don't they make the Elantra a crossover, the Sonata a crossover, and while they're at it, why not make Genesis a crossover-only brand?
  18. A price war with China would have disastrous short term effects, but in the long-run, like a decade or more would probably make America more like it's former self where it was a manufacturing powerhouse. I live in Toronto, Ontario, and there's a bloody rustbelt in all the working class neighborhoods, you see the degradation with your own eyes, FOR LEASE signs everywhere. The wealth of the former America has allowed so much of the world to become developed. I digress no more, I think GM will ultimately fail in this endeavor, or if they succeed, then, well China will ultimately steal once more another place where the domestics are very strong. Chinese makes will then have a leg up selling their badge engineered wares here, whereas makes like Nissan who try to still be original with their trucks shake their heads as to how stupid American trade deals are for Americans.
  19. I really like the looks of the 200. Too bad it's the longest car in the midsize class, yet fails to have a roomy cabin. And I think the wheels on the upper trims are quite good looking. Same with the tail lights.
  20. That catcat is awesomeawesome
  21. The production Lincoln Conti looks nothing at all as a rip off of a Bentley, and I'm amused DFelt why you chose the Concept Conti, when Bentley is the real offender as they were the ones who copied the name. Land Wind is just ridiculous. Land Rover is fighting in Chinese courts to ban that company. However, Land Wind has ties to Geely and SAI.
  22. Pretty much the local makes already have black market imported, they have the design specs, and are already geared up for production of copy cats. Expect to see a Denali copycat dealer near you. Probably what will happen, is that even the manufacture and assembly of the pickup's will got to China. Yup, buy your big rig F-350 from China. Your Duramax Diesel from China. Your guts and glory RAM from China. Don't we all just love CHINA?
  23. Uhh, so the way it's set, the slower, more grueling workout actually happens after the long, faster paced multiple different exercise workout. And that's today Remember that thread about what car you would be if you were a vehicle? How I had to go from a being a beaten up, slow, fat, Ford Ranger/Comanche/Colorado to a Denali/Platinum Big Boss? I'm working in the grunt department when I workout, so that is happening. I am going from a terrible four cylinder to big fat V8. Currently I am at entry level V6 now. So there's the REAL DEAL progress report.
  24. NOPE and I'm a scrub who can't afford HBO. Actually it's because the cable is included, I have no say over whatever garbage we get on the idiot box.
  25. As it pertains to the price cuts, why are they in this market, trying to establish themselves, when their sales are tanking? And their price points are being eroded because they have huge problems with the brand. Whole sorts of issues. The same Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart that doesn't sell probably blow the sales of Fiat out of the water. Such a mismanagement of brands. Like as if Ameri and Cans are willing to accept cars designed for Europe only. No, we buy small crossovers because they fit a certain image profile at a low price point. But goddamn it, we all really do want to drive are F150 Plats, Escalades, Mercedes GLS, you know, the big boys. This reminds me in many ways of when Target came to Canada. They basically closed shop here after 1 year, realizing what a challenging retail environment (especially in the department store class like Wal Mart, Sears, Crappy Tire) Canada really is. Why are we here? Does anyone working at FCA US LLC, the person who is head of Fiat brand in North America, ask that question? Like what role can Fiat play? Mini is becoming very large now, but their sales are lower too, because again, niche brand, shoddy reliability, and poor resale.
