Jaguar News: Rumorpile: BMW Could Supply V8s to Jaguar Land Rover
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
When it comes to performance pedigree in terms of raw numbers, the German car maker engines deliver, and are usually underrated. Now, we live in a world where an Indian automaker invests in its British heritage brand and is now about to seal the deal for collaboration with a German rival. GLOBALIZATION!!! TECHNOLOGY! -

It looks really nice. I like how the last few years there were a lot of cars that looked great in blue, and now this new model year a lot of cars look savoury in RED. Yes, bloodlust RAGE!!!! -
Jaguar News: Rumorpile: BMW Could Supply V8s to Jaguar Land Rover
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
The F-Pace is priced on the low side, and it's kind of a tweener. Too big to be a GLC/X3 size but too small to be a GLE or X5 size. I've been around the new Jaguars a lot. To bring the price at a competitive point and provide the standard 5 years comprehensive warranty, I think they pulled quite a bit of money out of the interiors. Shame, they drive really astoundingly well, and are lightweight cars now. I have no issue with this, BMW engines are probably more reliable, and there's even some exotics like Pagani that delegate the engineering of their engines to someone else, and heck the Ford GT, also an exotic prestige carrier has a lot of work subcontracted out to MultiMatic. It's they only way. I recently heard that FordMoCo and Jaguar LandRover would cooperate over battery technology and suppliers. Marchionne wasn't wrong with his principles over why it was so necessary and beneficial when he begged for other automakers to help Fiat save some coin, expect the problem is no one wants Fiat to save some coin, because NO ONE WANTS FIAT! But Jaguar/LandRover are worth saving, I think. I hope they don't cheapen out the XJ. There's some rumours that the neXtJ...(get it? hurr hurr!!! I made a laugh) will be kinda like the Cadillac CT6, it'll be just like a LWB XF with some cosmetic changes and the same downmarket, unworthy of true flagship status interior. But that's just a rumour. -
Lackluster U.S., China Sales Impact Ford Motor Profit
Suaviloquent replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Well, these are not outstanding results, but they delivered a profit anyhow. I do see a big swing up for GM in the last few quarters. But still, over the last 5-6 years on a whole level, it's GM that's underperformed, and massively at that. Ford cited why it went down - newer competition, and discounts on older product to remain competitive. Those are believable reasons. I don't really expect older product relative to the competition to stand out anyways - nowhere has that kind of thinking really been broken at a consistent level. Yeah, you could cite Zeta Camaro SS 1LE versus S550 Mustang GT PP, but that's one comparison with a heavy weight on one criteria, performance driving at the very limit. Everywhere else, the Mustang wipes the floor off the Zeta Camaro in those exact specifications being compared. And think of it this way, I think Ford went to fleet because that helped them achieve cost targets for their passenger cars. I don't agree with being fleet heavy, but it is nothing new of domestic makes in their home markets. I guess Mercedes doesn't hide from fleet in Germany, now do they? Where do Toyota, Honda and Nissan get their corporate welfare from? Now we know that those same passenger cars (Focus, and Fiesta, perhaps subcompact crossovers as well) are going to Mexico anyways, but it might have helped here. GM's fleet dump probably had something to do with that. I am pleased with GM's build-up of performance. But they're winded themselves. Their run of all-new is ending, the next gen portfolio will all be do-overs of the current platforms, which are great, but like in some cases such as the Eplison or Chi, they're not staggering disruptors of the market, I mean the Malibu is a great car, but this is North America, ITs YOUR GIMME! The fact that any make that isn't domestic has an entrenched position where it pertains to passenger cars says it all. Cadillac is surely to contribute to the new uptick in results, but I expected that and more. Ultimately Ford is not guns blazing right now. They were when the Focus, Escape, Fusion and Explorer were all redone within the space of 2 model years. At that time they were taking a huge lead from the domestic pack. But now reality is a blend of different things. For some stupid reason, Ford has no subcompact crossover. The same things that make the Fiesta a hoot to drive, its small size, tidy dimensions, well sorted chassis - make it a poor fit for the practicality minded buyers of a segment slowing down at this time. The Focus has stayed the course, but I think it really is showing it's age now. The Fusion has some new life breathed into it with the Platinum and Sport, but it looks just average in the mid trims, but styling is still a strong suit. The crossovers are doing what they do - they keep selling! And trucks have come around, Platinum being one hell of a lucrative trim. I would cite performance cars as being important as they set a brand identity, but it goes both ways. GM lacks anything performance below the Camaro in Buick or other four door Chevy models. Cadillac has V, and it's right there in the instances where you have V models. Lincoln is laughable, but hey, the MKX, or the money machine can equal the competing Cadillac, and they're making 2 more new money machines pretty soon. Lincoln doesn't really need a performance line, because it would be an utter poor fit. And then there is the sold-out exotic, which is currently the only production 2017 american exotic, with the defunct Viper, and while the Corvette reaches high, I'm not sure it's the kind of bespoke supercar the GT is, just like I don't consider the Porshce 911 to be a bepspoke supercar, though frankly both the Corvette and 911 have variants better than a McLaren F1 on a track. By that same notion, the Mustang has a variant that on a track a driver with equal skill will like more, and likely be faster than the 911 GT 3, which of course was beaten on a track by a Car that became MT's best driver's car, the, Zeta Z/28. In that aspect, the GT350R variant is it's own value. Alas, pretty long talk, a lot of it opinion, none of it to change people's opinion, so HAVE AT IT. -

There's still a 50 mpg target for CAFE. I just don't think anything beyond a V8 will even be viable AT ALL in passenger cars. I think Daimler will make a fully electric Mercedes-Maybach. They may even position it as a top trim, or do they combine Maybach and AMG sub models? Yeah, that one!!! That one! -

"Officially Open" AP Reports for Tesla Gigafactory

Holy $h!, I didn't think Tesla wants to have the capability to outsell Chrysler (albeit those include international sales, not just domestic chrysler car sales). Damn. Crazy.- 32 replies

Doesn't matter how long they delay it. Every automaker will probably have far larger unit sales of models equipped with this technology, and we'll find Cadillac's, Volvos, Mercs and others in crashes with their semi-auto driving aids enabled eventually too.

Well, to be honest, it's better they kill off the unprofitable cars. But placing all the eggs in the hopes of a partnership with bigger rivals were just plain dumb.

What have we done? 2016 Malibu 1LT 1.5t

So checking in terms of fitness. Have lost 5-6 pounds in about 1 months. I fit in pants and shorts that are 1-2 inches smaller, so basically my older clothes that were catching dust. I still have a quite a ways to go. To be honest, I have one pig-out day. It's one day a week where I do manage portions and stuff, but will not generally count calories.... So I'm at 178 pounds, down from 187 when I started 2 months ago. I think I did gain some muscle. And slowly I do feel as though I have more core strength - some of those activites I can maintain for longer. And I also go to gym classes such as yoga and basketball, you know, real sports, real movement. So? How ya'll doing yourselves?

Pending investigation, BUT: I don't like the precedents being set here, because I still think the driver cannot willfully be stupid and engage autopilot thinking it's an "I WIN" button when it comes to driving a vehicle. At the point an autonomous aid is deployed, the driver is a passenger if they willfully choose to distract themselves. Or was this driver thinking that autopilot would stop on its own? Testing the features when no warning or pre-collision assist warning came off? Also...what about those cars? The ones that fail to deploy even those basic semi-auto features? Why aren't there big headlines and uproars over those?

McLaren F1 or Non Supercar, What is YOUR Choice?
Suaviloquent replied to G. David Felt's topic in The Lounge
Out of that list, it'd probably have to be CTS-V if I had to live with practicalities in mind. Charger....nahhhh, I need some new blood. Otherwise I'd probably just get a new McLaren....or Ford GT or whatever midengine GM wants to do in the next 5 years or so (if the rumours are true).- 10 replies

Look if withholding test cars is bad, then why did Cadillac withhold the XT5 from a comparison against the competition it is intended to destroy? It did not come out favorably when they did finally coax a vehicle from GM. I'm not going to change the subject, but the optics are pretty clear. The Focus being really a much older car in terms of underpinnings only had only its new Sync 3, fairly decent interior, par for the course efficiency, rather tidy dimensions and fairly decent ride and handling against the much fresher competition. MT can say whatever they want. But if something is bad, it's bad all around. A Ford focus being excused in one thing, and a Cadillac being excused is one another. But ultimately I wouldn't have expected the Focus to really be a threat to the freshest cars, but I wouldn't have expected the XT5 to fare worse than a Lincoln, and given a recent Buick crossover is somehow expected to also compete against the GLC, it's nonsensical to think that car has a better chance of toppling it either in a magazine review with magazine determined criteria. Unless I'm getting ahead of myself and some dead-tree media already had the proof to disprove what I just said. But that would mean Cadillac is half-hearted when it comes to daring greatly and Buick deserves a flagship SUV just as luxo and glitzy and as prestigious an Escalade. And no, I'm not referring to big mama Enclave, I mean don't hold out on us GM, give us a real GMT2XXX Buick SUV!!

That was a weird goal, I mean they basically gave less than 15 years to more than double the efficiency of the corporate fleets That being said....there's better ways to making our countries (Canada and U.S.) more fuel efficient, and it usually revolves around the incentives and disincentives of car ownership in general. But they would hurt the economy in their own ways. Better public transit, like in the NorthWest U.S. (I'd say Toronto too, but it's a crap shoot for such a large city) can do wonders for clogged cities. But might remove cars off the road that would have otherwise been purchased whether new or used. Placing tolls not on roads but to enter the core of the city might be better too. And big government....well, I have certain beliefs, and most of them ain't good about big gov't.

I never did understand why the ignition switch scandal happened after bk. I would have thought there would have been an entire company-wide audit. There's been documented proof that employees had requisitioned for a parts change in design but not number for the detent plunger with a supplier. One of the signing employees testified under oath that he was not aware of any change in design, despite his signature on the document. Anyways, I don't know if that was just a business as usual kind of deal - you know, parts bins do get changed all the time. And it would even make sense to make the new detent plunger to be legacy vehicle compatible, to have only one part do the job for many vehicles. Anyways, with VW paying $15 dollars in fines and compensation, what GM got off, and Toyota got off with were much less.

Quick Drive: 2016 Volkswagen Passat V6 SEL Premium
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Reviews
I like the Passat's epic roominess, and the fit interior and exterior of panels is actually very good. With the V6 option, it's almost like the revenge of the 9th Generation Impala, because both cars in terms of styling are cut from the same cloth.
