  1. It just keeps getting worse and worse...look at this truck they destroy in this video!!! This looks like sound recycling to me! Toyota Dealer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGfq4IBDVeo...feature=related And if you need a laugh about the stupidity:
  2. WOW! I am not a Mustang fan and that is a CRIME right there! An 86-87 5.0 CONVERTIBLE that looks that decent only probably garnered $3500 and will be destroyed? WOW! The question will have to be: What was it traded in on? And look what is beside it: A Cherokee. EVERY lot that I have looked at has at least 2 of these or more bound for the crusher. Hell, Grand Cherokees are stacking up like cord-wood behind almost every lot around here!
  3. LOGIC LIKE THIS HAS NO PLACE IN GOVERNMENT!!! Is it not amazing how quickly they can vote to fund this with another $2B in less than 24 hours...yet complain that people are hungry or need medical attention they cannot afford??? there just is no end to the stupidity that is the U.S. government!
  4. But the program is supposed to be for cars from 1987/1988 and UP....the '84 Cutlass with low miles should never have been able to be put in this program! But I agree...if some idiot trades in an '89 Trans Am turbo - that car should be exempt due to it's collector car status. Last night's take at the local Chevy dealer: 1988/89 Supercharged Grand prix...had the vented hood...VERY ROUGH CAR.
  5. I stopped by the local Chevrolet dealer last night to see what else came in the Clunker lot...they took in a few nice cars last night, although nothing that I would lament seeing parted out and rid the earth of...but I asked the lot owner how they are getting paid. He did not know. So I asked how he gets rid of the cars once they are bought as clunkers...unknown. So I looked him in the eyes and said: "Wait a minute, you are writing contracts on all of these cars which you have valued at $4500 each and you have no idea when you are getting paid or how to get rid of them?!?! His blank stare was great...then I hit him again: "once you destroy the motors, the cars are basically only good for scrap and a few parts, right? Well, lets just say you sit on these for a few months and then the government tells you that they don't have the money to pay you the $4500 for each of these cars - what are you going to do then? You do know that the government is broke, right?--Where is your guarantee that you will be paid?" The color drained from his face and he just looked at me and shook his head and told me he had no idea, but that he had hated the program and that there were too many loose ends in the program, and worse yet, that the government was STUPID enough to not exclude Honda, Toyota and VW. It should have been American owned companies ONLY. With that said, I think Jeep may be the biggest amount of the cars scrapped on this program - lots of GC's and Cherokees with CFC written on the windows. Some are damned nice!
  6. What were her specs? Miles...photos? Check out the new thread I started...I seriously want to puke after watching videos of the destruction.
  7. This was a really nice looking first gen Aurora. Wyzata Nissan...so an American car gets traded on a Japanese car and destroyed...it gets worse; Look what is beside the 7er - sure to meet the same fate. I want to do this to everyone who voted for this bill. Absolute bull $h!. Tax dollars at work right here people!
  8. I see a few problems with this bill: Mostly the wanton wasting of working automobiles. Sure, some POS cars are off the streets, but a fair many of them are not - like the Roadmaster wagon mentioned before. If that car was an LT1 car, then it BARELY meets the MPG cut off. Further, We the People are paying for this program and the benefits will probably NEVER be seen. Yeah, the dealers will sell some more cars - but the price of scrap should drop heavily due to the flood of steel suddenly on the market. Further - there is no return to the program - why not sell the cars to insurance pools and at least recoup some of the money. Brand them destruction only so they never hit the street in one piece again - at least the parts of value would not be wasted. The other problem I see is the 1986 cutoff. Now the people who could buy the 1995 Roadmaster with the LT1 cannot - they are now too expensive at $4500 - so they maybe buy what is left: an '86 Cutlass Cruiser. Now, we all will probably agree that the Roady would get better mileage and would be less of a polluter than the '86 - so I see this program forcing lower income people looking for the mid 90's car into the older stuff that is left after this program. To hear of a restored '41 truck or a tri-power Catalina going to the crusher whole makes me sick. Absolutely the stupider things I have heard. How much do you hate cars if you do that sort of thing in a steel yard?
  9. so they ARE blowing up the engines before they can be hauled away? Holy Crap is that a horrible thing to do to a working car or truck! The failed logic of this is beyond comprehension. Sorry about the seat track...head over to the local dealers...so far I have counted 5 GC's on the clunker lists...you should be able to find a seat track...and if the dealer is cool, should let you slide on grabbing it - after all - YOU OWN IT. In the photo posted by Dodgefan, we see $27,000 of our money helping the VW dealer sell cars after we just poured how much into the domestic makers?
  10. put peppermint oil on cotton balls and put them in the car all over...mice cannot stand the smell and will leave...and your car will be minty fresh. It works, I promise.
  11. Well, the Clunker Program is in full swing, and I have to tell you: It makes me sick. This is the STUPIDEST thing I think the government has ever wasted our money on, and really decent cars are going to be scrapped because of it. Further, I really think if the government had half a brain, they would have demanded that the trade ins could only be made on a domestic owned lot - Ford - GM - Chrysler - so that the money came back home, not further increase the trade deficits. So, get out there, cruise the back lots and tell me what you find. I will start off with a really nice '99 Wrangler YJ 6 cylinder 5 speed hard top - no rot, great shape...needed a bath...will never see the road again. I will tell you that I saw 7 cars behind our local dealer last night, all marked CLUNKER - NOT FOR SALE. I would have driven 4 of them proudly. They are destined for the crusher. WASTE! Tell me what you find kids!
  12. An AMC Marlin? And I could really use that firebird's Windshield frame...Wow...there WERE some great cars in that yard - that '67 Camaro deserves better!!!
  13. Wait! The above pictured Caddy exists AND is RWD? WHY THE HELL WAS THIS NEVER SOLD HERE? THAT CAR IS STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I agree! Imagine this: GM had Bentley Manufacturing build my 1957 Buick BODY in Ionia, Michigan, which was then shipped to Atlanta to be placed on the assembly line and finished...how could that have been economically feasable? Remember: Trucks were not as big or as burly as they are today...so rail? WOW.
  15. How is this BITCH still on the streets? Armed robbery TWICE! Now she stuffed a cat in a 500 Degree oven and she is able to plea it down? How was she not already in Jail for her previous crimes? I don't condone killing anyone or anything, but she should not be on the streets - she will kill again. She keeps upping the ante...somebody will die someday at the hands of this sick p.o.s. - the courts and society have been warned. STOP HER HERE AND NOW.
  16. From what I recall three years ago, the headliner was not mentioned at all, and there was a stain or discoloration on the front seat. The paint was newer at the time it was being offered. Such a beautiful car. FYI: I have seen a very nice 57 Safari in Goodguys Gazette sell for only $29,000 and it was airbagged, had two sets of wheels, was arrest me red and damned near perfect. And it was slow selling - as it was in multiple issues classified sections.
  17. best line of the story is at the end..... "EDITOR'S NOTE: Comments have been disabled on this story because of multiple abusive posts" :rotflmao:
  18. Tailgate chrome and headliner look are the same as a Nomad, so needless to say: Parts are available easily. YOU SHOULD BE CONSIDERING THIS. Now, I also know a little about the car: It was in California near LA 3 years ago with the original motor in it and it had a bad cylinder in it, which explains the newer motor that is in it's place. I almost bought this car with it's bad motor three years ago for $13,000. They are just beauties, and they are seldom seen at car shows and events - so you won't be another ME TOO Nomad...not that that would be a bad thing. Buy it. I would offer around $14,500-15,000 (these are out there - check last months Hemmings they showed one at a car corral for sale in the low teens) You will not regret it. And if the motor is junk - slap in a built 400 or 455 Poncho motor and have some fun.
  19. I am jealous of the man's skills. I have been mesmerized by this project and cannot put it down. Oddly enough: I saw that old wagon he bought online for sale a year or so ago. What a cool project that was. Love how it turned out and I want to do the same thing with a car someday!
  20. It's the suppliers fault. Hell, works for Toyota! I, too, am dismayed by these reports. The L99 and the tranny's that are having issues are not NEW engines and transmissions...why the problems? Oil leaks on an LS3 - should NOT be happening...that engine has been in the Corvette now for how long? Have not heard this over on the Vette forums. I could maybe see issues with the rear end or some newer sub assemblies, but to have issues with the KNOWN components really bothers me. The LSx engines have been really reliable and bulletproof from what I have seen. I have been itching to buy one, but have decided to hold off due to the issues everyone is experiencing. I have enough cars in the 'fleet' now, and really do not need another payment in this economy anyway. And Dodgefan, not heard anything about the Challenger, however - I spend NO TIME in those forums.
  21. There IS something to driving a 50's classic...the two tone paint and the shiny chrome everywhere...people smile and give lots of thumbs ups. No airbags, no safety equipment, overboosted power steering, heavy brakes...open exhaust and the smell of the gas and oil leaking on a hot engine alll make for a really wonderful driver involved experience. Crank out the wing windows, throw the kids in the back seat and cruise...it is so much fun. I still want my 84-86 Camaro T-top Berlinetta with the Digital Dash...so you are not alone in your desire for a mid-80's 'classic'. Good luck on the search for your Z24 or Type 10 hatch!
  22. The SR-71 because I have a family member who flew one. Always loved the styling and strength of the B-17's - I get all googly when I see one. Facinated by them actually. There are just so many great planes out there...but I stick with my top two.
  23. Kind of a cool car actually. Find a rust-free one and get rolling on it. I actually liked the hatchbacks in the Z24. I liked them in Blue...but here is a red one to get you going! http://detroit.craigslist.org/ctd/1235787829.html
