  1. What if the Australian government decided to buy the Pontiac name, then offer the dealerships it's HOLDEN cars to sell excess capacity from the plants - but the whole line up this time? The ST, the Sportwagen, the Statesman and the Caprice - everything in the Holden bin. You think THAT would work?
  2. Back in High School in PA we had some kids hurt/killed when the car they were in struck a coon and it actually caused the car to roll over and it struck a tree off the road upside down. It was a rather large raccoon - it also died. So yeah, unchecked, they can get pretty damned big. That TT-S is a great looking car. Those LED running lamps are so hot-sexy! Love the new Audi's.
  3. Oh I don't find myself feeling sorry for the guy at all - in fact I am shocked that they bought it and drove it home after looking at it. What is even more shocking is that the story is fairly well written and VERY entertaining from such an obviously confused person...I mean, did the guy LOOK at it BEFORE he handed over the cash? Then go so far as to admit to it on Craigslist! Almost as bad as the guy that posted the fact that he was suffering from Olestra poisoning from eating 4 tubes of Pringles with Olean in them that was posted earlier this week!
  4. So, in reading this, Roger is going to have GM build Saturns for him or "As many GM cars as possible" - so that brings up the question: What cars? The Aura? A Camaro derived car maybe? - a Vue? Roger has a huge tie in with Honda...you don't think Honda would private label cars as Saturns for him, do you? Then the question begs: Why would GM sell him cars to compete with themselves? It has been said that Saturn never turned a profit in the 19 years it existed under the GM umbrella...so how is Roger going to turn that around?
  5. http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/cto/1206301823.html Text of the ad is below in case it gets removed: For sale is a POS (piece of S---) 1986 Ford Bronco II bought from LEE SWEELEY in Clinton Iowa no more than 8 hours ago. I talked my cousin into driving 93 miles (186 round trip) to go pick up this piece of crap in CLINTON, IOWA yesterday evening. I will try to fill you in on a few things HE left out before I made the hour and a half trip (three hours round trip) wasting a half a tank of gas or more. First of all, the windshield is cracked clean across the entire thing... which he "forgot to tell (me)" about on the phone after speaking with him several times... or in the series of emails we traded. Apparently wont get you pulled over and ticketed didnt fall into consideration in his definition of being "highway worthy". It was the first thing I noticed among other things wrong with the vehicle that he didnt bother to mention. Also, the air conditioning is completely removed leaving only a solitary hose pathetically flopping about under the hood like a useless, flaccid... something or other. Cant wait for July. Must have just slipped ole LEE SWEELEY's mind? In addition, the truck is not actually "rust free" as stated in the description (due to it being a "California vehicle"... actually sold to him from the owner, who according to the title is from Wisconsin). Also, the interior is a lovely multicolored wreck which looks like it was thrown up on by a chameleon on acid. The interior door panels are tan on one side, and light grey on the other, with some maroon thrown in for good measure. The drivers seat is a red maroon, and loosely fastened to the floor. The passenger seat is tan, and completely different shaped than the drivers. The back seats look like someone may very well have birthed a child in them. As my wife put it, "it looks like a bird crapped all over them." The dash has been highly customized in "Realtree" camouflage. I'm pretty sure I went cross-eyed there for a minute trying to figure out which of the many color schemes were original to the vehicle, as Dolly Parton's 1983 hit single "Coat of Many Colors" wailed through my head. None of the aforementioned qualities were apparently worth mentioning in advance of my Ninety-Three mile trek across Iowa to see it. Rather notable was the radiator fan, which without a functional fan clutch sounds like a 747 taking off from the bottom of the grand canyon. Another convenient oversight on "Honest" LEE SWEELEY'S part... although in his opinion this makes the Bronco sound kinda "Bad"... in a good way, of course. It might also be worth mentioning, that in true party wagon fashion-- this bad boy has a dome light that flashes like a full on *strobe light* in conjunction with even the slightest variation in pressure placed on the gas pedal while going down the road. What genius of engineering can this possibly be attributed to you ask? The fact that the tailgate refuses to fully close and latch even when chop blocked in tandem by two fully grown men with a total combined weight of at least 350 lbs. In light of this modern marvel I am considering throwing in a *miniature disco ball*, to dangle from the tattered headliner-- free of charge to the next lucky buyer. And just an off the cuff thought-- I guess it really isnt that much of a hassle to have to double clutch if you really want to get into second gear. But might have been nice to know about any variation from a normally functioning clutch before, oh, a ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-SIX MILE ROUND TRIP EXCURSION. To his credit, ole LEE SWEELEY of CLINTON IOWA did tell me that the power brake booster seemed to be out, and I believe him judging by the sinister hissing coming from the area around the break pedal anytime you dare put your feet in its vicinity and press on it. He told me "the brakes work fine, you just have to push a little harder on them to get them to work." Admittedly, trying to push the pedal THROUGH the floorboard did seem to result in some deceleration and eventually a stop. My cousin also found it slowed down ALOT faster if you downshifted at high RPM's to the point that the tires chirped happily down interstate I-80. He also threw in "a box of goodies" which he had me fetch from his garage, including the original steering wheel which had been replaced by some sort of 3 spoke racing wheel to match the custom T-shaped metallic red custom shifter which was molded stylishly to fit the contours of the driver's hand. Also included was a chrome colored differential cover, and some other unidentified crap to throw in the back just in case the POS didnt already rattle enough. I had to hold off on the rusty winch and brush guard he tried to throw in for an extra $100 so I could afford to replace the broken windshield. He also offered to throw in the original seat, to which I asked," How come its not in there now?" He then replied, "'Cause its broke." After thoughtful consideration, I respectfully declined. But hey, I'm sure some lucky buyer will get it out into some mud one of these days to find out ole honest Lee Sweeley couldnt tell a lie about the four wheel drive working. I'm sure it really does. So... who wants to own this one of a kind gem at the bargain price of $600? If you are any less than 186 miles round trip away you will have gotten it cheaper than I did! And since me and the Karma Chameleon have come this far-- just like ole Lee Sweeley I want $600... "no more no less!" I still want to know why the guy bought it...but still a great read!
  6. So does this mean you would like to see Buick get the Sky as the Bengal or some sporty car and maybe Chevrolet getting the Nomad Kappa we all loved as a concept? I would personally love to see this since Americans seem to be looking harder at small cars again.
  7. I laughed...then my mind went: "What the HELL was this person searching for on Craigslist that netted him a story on ANAL LEAKAGE???"
  8. Do you not feel the Lacross replacement will be sucessful IF it has high quality materials, that beautiful body and the wonderful interior we have all seen in photos? The Enclave has already managed to bring in a younger crowd (it is a very nice crossover - 12,000 trouble free, rattle free DEFECT free miles thus far on ours). Rumors of an small car coming to the Buick fold...do you not feel this is enough? What WOULD it take to make Buick a contender?
  9. While I hope he finds the car, what are the odds that somebody did not buy it and beat the thing into the junk yard many many years ago? It looks like Wisconsin plates on the car, which means salty winters, and the survival rates of Second gen Camaros are not great in the midwest as most of them find thier way to the roundy round tracks to die a horrible death. (see also trailer park, on blocks, windows down with the owner that always says he is "gonna fix 'er up someday") Sadly, I bet this car became a lawn ornament or a Japanese 'car' a long time ago. I hope not, but my hopes are not high that it lives.
  10. Here is the Caprice. The Camaro had some shots, but nowhere near as clean as this car is. No shots of the Toadsmasher, yet. That LT1 is just begging me to put it in a better car...something lighter and older...say a 49 Buick Sedanette?
  11. Option # 1: 1986 Chevrolet Caprice Brougham...2 door. 86k miles. $1550. 1 owner, no rust, never driven in winter. 5.0 auto loaded for an '86. This is a VERY clean car. The guy went so far as to tell me about the two defects on this car: the chrome trim inside the steering wheel is checked...and there is a small scuff on the fender that has rust bubbles starting on. Also it may need exhaust soon (still original!). Selling to get $$$ to rebuild the motor in thier one owner 1970 chevrolet heavy half. Option # 2: 1991 Camaro RS T-top car, 100k miles. Minor rust spots here and there, comes with a slew of extra parts : wheels, nose, t-tops. Runs and drives well. Selling because they do not need it. It is just an extra car for them. $1500-1800 cash for all. 5.0 auto Option # 3: 1996 Buick Roadmaster Sedan. Miles: Unknown. Problems: Was an attempted theft. has an LT1 and posi. Runs and drives. Minor damage on drivers door (lock) and the steering column is broken around the key (VATS did it's job) - here is the kicker: $600 or BEST OFFER! The driveline on this car is PERFECT for a later rod build I am planning, and I can repair the minor stuff now and just drive it til it dies, the use the parts for a rod later. I am basically looking for a beater to keep the miles off of my Escalade. Which of these three would YOU guys and gals pick?
  12. Describe the clunk for me. Is it when you stop and come to a rest and it CLUNKS when it settles or when you let the clutch out and the truck settles back on its haunches when under power? It COULD be the DRIVE SHAFT - they are a slip style that needs to be greased heavily or it CLUNKS HARD under stopping and starting conditions. We had one of these shorty Blazers and it was the ONLY problem we ever had with the truck. A little grease in the slip yoke solved the problem for us - just grease the hell out of it at EVERY oil change and it stops doing it. Just my two cents... neat truck btw. I have to wonder if you go through all the trouble to paint the grille, why not match the paint???
  13. why is this car not for sale in the US yet? I am looking at the fit and finish on that car and I honestly thought it was NOT a CHEVROLET a few times! The back was VERY BMW! Took a good hit...worried a bit about that door opening up though!
  14. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1156619789.html here is an Honest to goodness '86 Aero Coupe. then there is THIS idiot: http://southbend.craigslist.org/cto/1145388034.html - keep in mind: YOU ONLY GET ONE AT THIS PRICE! And the Poncho version: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ctd/1149930281.html
  15. Found this one in my local Craigslist...455, 4-door. Beautiful SPLIT PEA Metalflake paint...less than $5k!!! http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/cto/1166118921.html Why do I think 68 will be all over this???
  16. He had replacement coverage and is already due to receive a new car any day now. I was pretty sickened seeing those photos. Anyone need an RS/2SS parts car?
  17. then I saw "The Onion" and laughed my head off! This is just classic. :rotflmao:
  18. Was the Toyota frame rust option not included on the sticker on the test truck? Every time I look at the dash in the Tundra, I think Phantom of the Opera...just a stupid looking dash all the way around. And the Dodge is a great looking package - love the Rambox design. THAT is a great feature. My money would still be spent at the GM dealer though, had WAY too many issues with the Chrysler/Jeep product to let me come back.
  19. If it will still tow, go off road (-ish) and still be a big enough platform to seat my family of four and our belongings for a trip - then YES. Interested. If not, then I am not.
  20. And let us not forget who MADE the banks restructure their loan rules and got us all into the sub-prime mess that lead us all into the current mess we are in - the Government. You really want these people to run a company? They cannot even run the COUNTRY! And for those of you who wish to blame the past 8 years and bush, see below...from the New York Times , dated 9 30, 1999: -Fa nnie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending - New York Times Page 1 of 2 GSeptember 30,1999 Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending By STEVEN A. HOLMES In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders. The action, which will begin as a pilot program involving 24 banks in 15 markets -- including the New York metropolitan region -- will encourage those banks to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans. Fannie Mae officials say they hope to make it a nationwide program by next spring. Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Chton Administration to exp&d mortgage loans among low and moderate.income people a d 'felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profit$. In addition, banks, thrift institutions and mortgage companies have been pressing Fannie Mae to help them make more loans to so-called subprime borrowers. These borrowers whose incomes, credit ratings and savings are not good enough to qualify for conventional loans, can only get loans from fmance companies that charge much higher interest rates -- anywhere from three to four percentage points higher than conventional loans. "Fannie Mae has expanded home ownership for millions of f&lies in the 1990's by reducing down $ayrnent requirements," said F D. Raines, F a d e Mae's chairman and chief executive officer. 'Tet there remain too many borrowers whose credit is just a notch below what our underwriting has r&& prime market." C Demographic information on these borrowers is sketchy. But at least one study indicates that 18 percent of the loans in the subprime market went to black borrowers, compared to 5 per cent of loans in the conventional loan market. Ln mo$ng, even tentatively, into this new-area of lendinj, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly-more risk, which may n o o e c o n o m i ctim es. But the government-subsidized borporation may mn mto trouble in an economic downturn. promptine 'a government rescue sirgi1a.r to anzloan mdustry in the 1980's. Y "From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us," said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. "If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry."
  21. Here is why I feel the banks and bond holders are better at holding the assets than the government: For the bond holders and the banks to retain the value of the assets, they have to maintain or increase the worth of the assets. They have a vested interest to keep GM alive. If GM dies, they are out a whole bunch of money and will probably go broke/be shuttered from the failure of GM...in other words: If GM fails, they fail too! I doubt the government will be willing to offer another bailout to the banks due to the overwhelming popularity of the first two with the voting public. The Government really does not care if GM/Ford or Chrysler fail...they will protect the union members through buying up the pensions to some extent, but that is really it. The companies will fail and the taxpayers that gave them the loans will remain un-paid. When has any government been concerned with saving/repaying taxpayer's money? So, the short of this: Bond holders and Banks need GM to survive if they ever want to see their money again. The Government really does not care if they see the loan money repaid or not, as it is OUR money they are loosing. Plus: Who is going to buy GM AND take over the DEBTS? I cannot think of one viable entity that has the backing to take on such a massive undertaking.
