I know the SL2 I'm looking at is a manual...I'd like to go with that...my brother is interested in learning anyway. Thanks for the info, if you've got anything else I'd be glad to hear it.

Oh yeah? There's one for sale about an hour from here and an SL1 for sale about the same distance. What's the difference between SL1 and SL2?

Actually I don't find teh gneration of Prizm we have to be tinny. It's much more solid than the Corolla of the same generation. My friend's Corolla feels very tinny and "pings" when you tap the metal or close the door. The Prizm "thunks". I couldn't choose a j-body simply because the interior was so awful. However since my mom and brother are looking for Economical cars, anything is open to look at.

It's NEW new car time...perhaps
What about a Mini? I love the new ones. At first glance they look similar to the last generation but there's a lot of subtle design tweaks that come together to make it a much better looking car (and I liked the first one too).

Car Shopping
So it seems as though a few new members may join the fleet son. Since the T&C is totaled my mom is looking to replace it, and my brother is also looking for his first car. The have different requirements and spending limits. Mom: Her spending limit depends on what she gets when the claim is settled, but most likely $1,000-$1,200 is her limit. We do appreciate the utility of teh van (I want us to get another), so Chrysler vans are on list for sure. Other vans might be considered. However I think she wants to downsize some. She does like the practicality of the minivan, so a wagon would be the next natural choice. However, there's not very many wagons i can think of that are in the 90's range. Ford's Taurus/Sable wagons come to mind, and are pretty cheap, but how are they in terms of reliability? Brother: His spending limit is a little better at $1,600 for his first car. He wants something that will get around or better than 30mpg on the highway, since when he starts college he'll be doing a fair amount of commuting. He likes the first gen LH cars, he seemed to like the LHS, and possibly the Intrepids. He's not that picky though and could be swayed into anything that gets reasonable fuel economy and falls within his budget. I don't think it matters if it's coupe or 4-door/hatch. Thoughts or suggestions? One final note: he'd be willing to get a cheap fixer-upper providing the cost of the car and repairs don't exceed $1600...so if you can think of any suggestions for that please do.

It is true though, rust does effect 80's Japanese cars more than others...and Tacomas STILL (ZING!).

It's NEW new car time...perhaps
Funny you should mention that about willing to sacrifice some features for teh sake of buying "new" rather than slightly used. My boss drives a brand new Civic. That's all well and good. These past few days have been in th 90's. I came into work and he ha d just got in and was all sweaty. Latery myself, him, and a coworker were leaving for the day and talking about aiur conditioning. The coworker's older Maxima doesn't have good A/C...and my boss' car doesn't have it AT ALL. I almost burst out laughing. This country's obsession with buying new just for the sake of buying new (That has to be the only reason anyone ever bought Echos and cheap Korean $h!boxes) is hilarious. Meanwhile, I have A/C that works great...and it's the oldest of the 3 cars.

Cost of gas, Soccer-mom image doom minivans
So...the moral of the story is people are too hung up on vanity and looking "cool"...? Hate to break it to these people, but an SUV or CUV, with rare exception, isn't much cooler.

Chevy Beat in Transformers 2
Seriously, it's a movie about giant robots not cars...cars are just the form they take to disguise themselves. Get over it dude.

I wonder if they are still using the GTO-based props or maybe preproduction units?

Proportions look really good, as does most of the body work. The tail lights are a bit odd though. I wanna see the interior.
