I did it...finally retired my Jeep after almost 17 years
balthazar replied to Robert Hall's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
I bought my '94 F-150 new (6 miles), drove it 146K miles, traded it during the cash for clunkers debacle, and it got scrapped. Other than my '04, all my VIN numbers are too short for VIN searches. -
Buh-by Range Rover!!

toyoter/nissan hasn't cut their tundra/titan when they failed to compete with the Americans. And cut models don't automatically mean they 'don't compete'. Did Mercedes cut the 300SL because it 'didn't compete' with the Corvette? But by your specific claim; if Ford & GM focus on CUVs / SUVs, they're not going to cut a number of CUV / SUV segments out. I mean, that's counter-intuitive on your part (despite your obvious desire to see all American brands completely discontinued).

Nissan Leaf is the global EV sales leader.
-
If the Big Two (plus FCA) "focus" on SUVs, how are the Asians 'going to take the SUV market'? Seems much more likely they'll lose market share.

I just measured a mountain bike in my garage; 69" long. Gladiator bed length : 60". Hilariously sad. Flatbed option. 20 tie-down rings. Jeep-branded straps. Lock-in mini stake sides. Lock-down storage bins. Minimal lift-over, maximum reach. Pull-out bike ramp. Ultimate configuration options. You're welcome, FCA.
-
That gladiator brochure is HILARIOUS; 2 bicycles and they DO NOT FIT in the bed. Can you imagine being an engineer at Jeep, you make this truck w/ bed vehicle, then you automatically have to engineer all sorts of racks & fitments to hold items ABOVE said bed. ? Might as well just have a Gladiator flatbed with a plethora of tie down rings & Jeep-branded straps - it would hold more things.

? Why "despair gray' tho?? Why not machined alloy or body color or anything else (or... speed discs). Think about it from a marketing perspective. Honda has a cheap-o $18K Fit, they recon-twiddle the dirty bits & make it an EV, and suddenly the "same car" is $40,000. Sales would be even worse than they are. No; you have to be offered 'something different/special' for the exorbitant price increase. Unfortunately, it's still not yet time for an 'EV version of a mainstream/existing model'... what is should be is a much more attractive/aspirational model. Porsche may be the first brand to figure that out.

Not true! There’s a bunch... a few modern vehicles I think are pretty good designs. But you've got to admit the Model 3’s wheels are about the worst.
-
Homely but palatable. For a toyoter.
-
I would never own a toyoter, but at least the 4Runner I find palatable in looks. RAV4 is horribly formed tho.
-
-
You haven't seen the infamous Chrysler Airflow before? Controversial design but extremely well engineered.
-
That's a supposition AND it's subjective. Frankly, I for one don't particularly find the Model 3 'sexy'- it's bland, the rear end is overly stubby (MANY sedans are this way), and the 'despair gray' wheels still look like 'in-transit' protective plastic covers. But other 'sexy / good looking' cars frequently feature a lot more design time and elements; 2 things that cost more.

corolla & camry are dead flat for the year, and avalon is down 16%. Treading water.
-
... pricing.
-
RAV 4 is a stylistic disaster. Wheelwell cladding cut short from reaching the rockers is comical, and the front looks like broken shale; too jagged. Dint find the exaggerated underbite attractive either.

Kinda telling how the vast multitude of EVs are starting priced in the stratosphere. And outside of Tesla, those are all subsidized by IC vehicles.- 39 replies

^ Gov't. It's automatic. And not to worry, soon enough they'll get you on BOTH your registration and your electric bill.
