They are not 'perhaps' high, they are indisputably high. Even cutting them in half would raise -for example- my fuel taxes around 700%. While I can see the point of mileage-based rather than gallon based, we have to come up with realistic, non-penalizing rates instead of hammering the populous at large. Big Gov't doesn't need another new, fat revenue stream to plunder & piss away. I realize (hope!!) you are primarily suggesting a tiered system, but to even put those numbers in there... you're just going to frighten off any support you might hope to garner.

whatwhatWHAT?? I pay about $110/yr in state & Fed fuel tax, I need that to jump to $1500 like I need a 4-ton meteorite to smash my truck flat. And Jersey spends more/mile in road maintenance than any other state IIRC- you would only find zero support for something like that here! Those amounts are insanely higher than even the highest state fuel tax. If I lived in Wash State, I'd pay around $310. You are just begging for abuse & corruption with that level of a revenue gusher.

The focus for some may be that 'we're told' it doesn't cost any more money to make something aesthetically pleasing. Others likely take issue with increasing acreage of black plastics, again which 'we're told' is 'utter cheapness'...

Because its much cheaper than sheet metal? The entire nose of the van is plastic, unpainted, black, cobbled up plastic. Seriously, what's the logic? All these white refrigerator boxes, all intently cheaply made/looking.

I am also in the camp that really appreciates the individuality & exclusivity of the CTS coupe. It's not meant to be a safe, fuzzy-warm, generic 2-dr : this is the Cadillac of yore that lead styling movements. Want something tame & predictable- go get a mercedes E 2-dr. Reg put it perfectly; jet black CTS-V coupe is about as dynamic & menacing as it gets this side of some sports/super cars.

They look like they weigh 12,000 lbs tho. 230" is only 13" longer than my Buick, but that's a coupe. Good size neighborhood

One of those new, monstrous, hulking, bloated Rolls sedans. Actually, I like the look of 'em. Went by a backyard carport thingie where I believe I had earlier spotted a '56 Roadmaster (well; there was a Florentine Curve there...), but the homeowner had put sections of wooden-slat fencing up to obscure. Looked like a Fiero GT was peeking out from the other bay tho.

I'll drive anything, but there are very very few vehicles in the 'super car' genre that I aspire to own. Agreed with the sentiment 'yes on a new American auto enterprise'.

Maybe the enthusiast populous is now willing to 'get sloppy' with "muscle car", just like a small quantity has with "coupe". :shrug:

The only luxury brand currently with any originality in the styling department is Cadillac. The rest either regurgitate their own old cues or crib bits from everyone else.
