  1. Feliz compleanos, mon ami!
  2. incandescent or fluorescent? And z28, I agree that you should just tell her.
  3. No NPR shows, just classical. The only time they interrupt the music is to tell you what they're playing and occasionally to beg for money. It's great.
  4. Ronaldinho
  5. I think some of their best works on their later albums oddly came from songs that strayed the most from their thrash roots and didn't try so hard to force sounding pissed off. (Ex: Low Man's Lyric) James' old guy voice is pretty well-suited for a classic country style, a la Johnny Cash.
  6. My least favorites are beige, seafoam green, or any other color that is associated with soccer moms and those who seem so ashamed of their cars that they must try to downplay their existence as much as possible. Choosing favorites is a little bit trickier. While navy and black are the two easiest colors to look good in, i don't think I'd call them my favorites. I prefer to think of colors as a good way to tell how well a car is designed. As a rule of thumb, if a car can look good in oddball colors, then it's probably a better looking design than one that can't.
  7. Amen. When did boring become edgy?
  8. And the evidence for why GM should jettison SAAB keeps mounting. . . Nah, I actually like a lot of that too; it makes a good change of pace for when I've overdosed on metal. I recently discovered Chapel Hill's classical station, and I'm hooked. My favorite part is that I recognize a lot of the songs from their being converted from classical to metal riffs.
  9. Well, the latex is actually made in Korea, but it's all sewn together in Flint.
  10. Great, let's just hope some right-wing group doesn't get ahold of this. They'll see that Planned Parenthood is selling bad condoms and start a new campaign about how they really do love abortions. Also, I want to know what sort of rigorous testing they put these condoms through.
  11. Bwahahahahaha! Guys, look at the first thing in the video: "ricekiller.com" It's a huge domestic fan who organizes some big meets and is just having some fun at the expense of his friends' cars. I looked up some of his other videos, and it looks like he enjoys complimenting cars by insulting them. Great example: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...eoID=2012036178

  13. looks like a pneumatic lift
  14. Pirates? I thought MLB had been contracted down to just the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Braves. At least, that's the impression I get from watching the sports media.
  15. What? Is Chewbacca not wookie enough for you?

    Gas boycott

Let's see: people boycott gas on day 1, yet have no plan to reduce consumption in the long haul. Demand for gas goes up significantly on days 2 and 3. Smart, internet-savvy oil company maybe raises gas prices after day 1, knowing that people will have no choice (realistically, because people only want grand hollow gestures, not real change) but to buy the gas at a higher price. Oil company laughs all the way to the bank. Jeez, ya wonder if the oil companies might be the ones behind these annoying emails?

  18. Man, preferences are one thing, but that's crazy. . . unless you're just looking for excuses to not have a relationship.
  19. I'd disagree with that, at least to some degree. There is plenty of material in liberal messages that can be put in a religious context that would gain the support of the religious community, issues such as "love thy neighbor" that are very basic to Christianity, and definitely more so than hating gays and abortion. Case in point: the 1960s liberation theology movement in Latin America. Prior to this, the idea was that reward for a good life would be in heaven, so that people should just be content with their state in life as it was. Then more radical leaders came in and offered a reinterpretation of scriptures that encouraged these people to become active in seeking improvement in their actual lives (think political activism, not hustling preachers who say "if you believe it really hard, God will make it happen.") Of course, established powers have since stifled this movement, but the point remains. Placing things in a religious context makes it much more approachable for a large portion of the population, something I don't think that many liberals have an easy time comprehending, and definitely something they haven't been successful in actually doing. Of course, a lot of these religious messages are really just exploitation of existing bigotries that nobody likes to admit are there, but that placing in religious terms allows people to practice these bigotries guilt-free. Which is a very different/uglier beast indeed.
  20. Well put, sir. It's sad to see that this man is able to propagate hate with his death like he did in his life.
  21. On a slightly larger scale, I went to the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina this week. It's a former railway station that focuses mainly on trains, but has other forms of transportation too. http://www.nctrans.org/ If you're looking for a relaxing place to spend a few days, I highly recommend going there and neighboring Salisbury. The whole area is an absolutely beautiful example of the small town South.
  22. It sounds like something Chris Doane would be involved in.
  23. How much more old-fashioned do you get than two guys reminiscing over a dead language?
  24. Okay, so it's done that too. I can't tell you how many times I've had to yell at my friends for trying to make the plural of "penis" into "penii" instead of "penes." Uncultured heathens.
