Done Deal 17.4% share sold, GM rases 2 Billion
Newbiewar replied to Newbiewar's topic in General Motors
its not difficult to sell GMAC... its just difficult to conceive selling off your most profitable portion for a one lump sum... its good that Suzuki purchased the shares rather then some other automaker... but as i read in an article... if GM can raise money from pulling their cash together rather then selling the profit machine GMAC (IIRC, which by the way profited 2 billion last quarter for GM) GM needs to keep GMAC, and by selling suzuki or izusu to raise cash, then leave GMAC in the corperation... -
I think this person ran out of positive adjectives... "noteworthy" was used a few times...

yea... but the paddle shifter if you throw it into "S" mode for "select" it stays in the gear you tell it to, so... technically you could wind each gear out or downshift when you wanted to rather then after you punch the gas with a genearic automatic with "shift points" and i asked the question to my fleet manager, which he couldnt tell me so i figured i'd test it out... "can you only switch to 'S' mode while the car is stopped?" and you can switch any time you want but... its nothing close the the real manual transmission feel
-
but regaurding the tranny... just remember GM wants to have only 6 speeds by 2010...
-
well from what i understand the long wheel base models are done... supposidly the plant was to close down in february... so if u can find a long wheel base, i bet it'll retain its value pretty damn well...
-
to tell you the truth... i drove one the other day... sold a nice Z51 package... but i dont think i would ever use the paddle shifter unless i was racing... where as, the clutch and stick give you a completely different feel... i wouldnt recomend the automatic to someone who is looking for a stick... because it just isnt the same... and well i tried the paddle shifter through third gear and i was like... hell let the damn car pick the gear for me... its easier... i love manual transmissions, and i still want one after driving the paddle shifter

there was a pretty bad racing accident over here in LA a few years ago, a mustang GT owner died on impact as he hit a street signal and the car split down the center... just went around the pole... and i'm not sure if it got all the way to the back, giving it just two haves... but being split is pretty scarry...

yea i hate having demos... our demos have like 4-6k miles... but technically if it has more then 6k miles it must be considered a used vehicle...but since the car was already registered to the guy... we cant slap it on the new car lot again...

"A look at retirement and separation offers from Detroit automakers: Under a longtime agreement with the UAW, factory workers at GM, Ford Motor Co. and the Chrysler Group with 30 or more years of service can retire with full benefits. When Chrysler sold a New Castle, Ind., parts plant to Metaldyne in 2004, workers had several choices: Stay on as Metaldyne employees at $16 an hour, enter Chrysler's Indiana jobs bank, enter Chrysler's national jobs bank, or accept a buyout and leave the company. Under the buyout, Chrysler paid $75,000 to $100,000 to each worker, depending on years of service and other factors. Ford is offering buyouts of $100,000 to workers in Lorain, Ohio, and Edison, N.J., who lose their jobs to plant closings if they agree to give up all benefits except pensions. Aside from the $100,000 buyout, offers include a tuition reimbursement program, two early retirement programs and a preretirement leave program for those just short of the 30 years needed to retire. In the early 1990s, GM offered early retirement and separation programs to workers idled as a result of plant closings and production cutbacks in Van Nuys, Calif.; North Tarrytown, N.Y.; Wilmington, Del.; and Ypsilanti. One option allowed retirees to collect a full pension and still work full time at another job without having their GM benefits reduced. GM also gave those retirees a $10,000 voucher toward the purchase of a new GM vehicle and up to $4,000 for taxes and registration fees. Workers who agreed not to earn more than $15,500 a year at another job were offered a $15,000 voucher toward a new car, plus $6,000 for taxes and license fees. Workers who did not qualify for retirement were offered up to $100,000 to leave GM voluntarily. " soo... 20,000 employees... 100k a peice... we're talking 2 billion dollars

so far the major conclusion is that he definatly was racing... and yes... he did walk away without a scratch...his insurance payed him over the cars value so he could step up from a 98 z28 to an 00 SS Edit... accually he woke up in the hospital, but i think he was 99% okay, maybe a bruse or a scratch... but for the most part nothing broken... i just sent him a message to confirm...

GM says it has no plans to fully sell Suzuki stake
Newbiewar replied to Northstar's topic in General Motors
if their aggreement has suzuki to reduce their stake in daewoo... would this mean that GM would take more shares of daewoo? -
its arbatrary... Los Angeles is everyones major market... more vehicles are sold in cali then anyother state... more people in cali have more money then any other state as a whole... it really doesnt do anything but to make los angeles people feel good about themselves, and want to buy a chevy...

yea i think that was a 3.6 billion dollar hit on GM in the 4th quarter of 05... what will it be this quarter? GM ought to be crying to uncle sam... Buy outs...? well Japan does it... should we move our operations to japan

GM to sell 20 pct stake in Suzuki Motor for $2.33B
Newbiewar replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
GM has rebadged vehicles selling out of Suzuki and Izuzu dealerships... so its more places to keep the GM factorys working... its a good thing, but if GM is going to close down a lot of its plants to increase production at others, i think they dont need the extra rebadged vehicles... The question is... if this 20% shares are listed at 2.33 billion, how much did they buy it for in 1980, i can tell you for a fact it wasnt 2.33 billion, likely they are doing this, for a few reasons... When GM sold their Fuji Industrial Motors shares they took a loss... although they accually received half a billion, on paper, to the government, and to the shareholders it looks like a loss... but in reality... its GM's money and now they have it back in their possession... same thing here, although i think their investment has grown considerably... soo... this 2.33 billion would look like a huge profit if they were to liquidate their shares... so, it would attract more shareholders because people thought that GM was making a profit with their own automobiles again... lets go with the nissan way... Shift_perception weather it is a good long term idea or not... right now GM must focus on the real problem, they might not have 5-10 years down the road if they dont fix the problem that exists today... -
wow my feelings are quite the opposite, the interior expecally the hvac controls are one of the nicest parts of the vehicle... now that i look into some toyota hondas and nissans, i really dont understand what critics are looking at...
-
okay, there you go... how would you say that accident happened... i'll give you a hint, he hit a tree...
-
we will... it'll probably be on the used car lot at a higher price then they are new...but we have no information to go off of with kbb not having 07's up... but if we cant sell it within 60 days... it goes to the auction... so we cant give him too much

Newbiewar replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
yea suzuki i believe is the worlds largest motorcycle seller... i could be wrong, but last i checked...also they are quite powerful... and izusu has a good grip on dsl technology and medium duty trucks... and subaru also builds pretty high quality cars, they dont want to sell a lot tho... they arent after volume... or so it seems... cause if they wanted to grow they could... -

GM to sell 20 pct stake in Suzuki Motor for $2.33B
Newbiewar replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
in the transaction Suzuki would reduce their ownership of daewoo..."Suzuki, in turn, is considering selling some of its 11 percent stake in GM's South Korean subsidiary, GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co, Kyodo News Agency said, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter." -
GM to sell 20 pct stake in Suzuki Motor for $2.33B

for what i've heard GM is going to be designing a 5.3 dsl under the chevy brand, or whatever... and it'll just be a chevy dsl instead of some kind of name brand duramax... because of the tapped out capacity on the duramax we will be able to see this 5.3 in the SUV's...so if this is the case, GM already has the info they need from izusu what else could we take from them before liquidating that asset? -
GM to sell 20 pct stake in Suzuki Motor for $2.33B
Newbiewar replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
Does GM know enough about the Duramax to redesign it from the ground up? if GM pulled out of isuzu and suzuki they would both pull out of the US market, they both dont make anything competative... thats less little mouths to feed... if GM sold that stock, the stock would probably fall very quickly... this seems like a wise thing and a bad idea... but it seems GM hasnt spent much R&D with suzuki... i could be wrong, but...
