The sale announcement ones should be dropped, replaced with more product or brand ads. All the Hummer commercials I've seen were excellent... they really help convey a certain image.

Hydrogen is also incredibly overhyped when you consider that hydrolysis of hydrogen creates more CO2 than running an equivalent gas-powered vehicle.

Better forward visibility, probably. All cars with door-mounted side mirrors have them.

No, I noticed that flaw the moment I sat in one... it's a legitimate complaint. The column doesn't adjust for reach, and I found the driving position slightly unnatural. Most manufacturers have moved on to infinitely adjustable columns that lock in place as opposed to a floppy lever.

I think they abandoned "Only GM", or at least stopped drawing attention to it. Now it's more brand specific.

This is the same story with the Tahoe, except the simulation is more convincing. Maybe it's because the enormous SUV dash is so far away that it requires deliberate reaching to feel and notice it.

I completely agree. After dealer hopping and trying out a few cars yesterday, I was dismayed by this depressed, caved-in, sitting-in-a-bathtub feel of many new cars. Yes, it looks great on a few, namely the TT and CLS, but an airy feel really makes a car seem lighter, livlier, and happier. It gives a perception of agility, particularly noticeable when you compare the layouts of the Solstice and MX-5. In the Solstice, the senses aren't as keen because you sit hunkered down, which is great on the track (like in the cockpit of a fighter plane or something), but in casual motoring, you become oblivious to your surroundings. This is spreading to mainstream family sedans as well. The interior of the new Passat seems less cheerful than the old one. The Impala seems to have so much more character than the G6. I don't know... it's weird.

Went dealer hopping yesterday... Volvo, VW, BMW, MINI, Hummer, Saab, and Chevy in that order. I was a bit disappointed by the GTI... perhaps my expectations were too high, but I felt that I liked it more than it was good. The interior was kinda depressing, it didn't smell right, and I didn't like the door hinge design... trivial details, but important nevertheless. I was pleasantly surprised by the 9-3, S40, and S60.

All the BMW interiors I've been in have at least some pliable dash materials. Edit: About the Escalade, there was one open at LAIAS, and it had materials that not only looked soft, but were soft.

Airflite was nice... too bad Chrysler abandoned it for chunky bricks.

The new S-class looks good in person, particularly with the AMG wheels.

I'd have to disagree... all the Tahoes I've checked out had 100% hard dashtop materials; they weren't a bit pliable. But I agree, they look fantastic.

Their ratings seem about right... the new Passat is a solid entry, the Fusion/Milan are great to drive, the Accord is well-rounded, and the Sonata is excellent for its price.

A few months ago, bits of the 110 freeway were flooded during a rare-for-LA rainstorm. I was in the Odyssey and the carpet got a bit wet, but that was nothing compared to the Miata left of me (there was traffic, so there was nowhere to go but straight ahead).
