  1. Got to be global market...right now FRS and BRZ are fighting to sell. I see the small RWD sports car going away, actually. As cars get more complex, it will be harder for car makers to rationalize the costs. These are the good old days...we still have the old iron around, and we can still buy new or late model sports cars that are worth a damn. Neither will be the case in 15-20 years, or sooner.
  2. This is good to know. Thanks!
  3. The Passat makes sense as a TDI model, that is it IMHO. The Impala is an infinitely nicer car as a gasser FWIW.
  4. .,...gives a 'roll in the hay" a whole new meaning....
  5. And I do not mean to sound like a jerk but...I hope you own something other than an Acura. The Acuras really do not impress me. Fine cars, just not my personal preference. Pretty much this!
  6. From the vW fanboi on our forum...QUOTED FOR TRUTH!
  7. What once made Cadillac tick no longer applies in the luxury segment. It's no longer about huge space, cloud smooth ride, and the most glitz... it's about aggressive looks and driving acumen that makes the most mundane morning commute a trip around the Nürburgring. Agreed, we are past the Baby Boomers desires for a Laz-e-boy chair ride. The buyers are wanting what you stated, a driving experience to make their commute fun. Or at least the image of wanting that experience. BMW is selling numbed down 3 series like ice water in hell. If the driving experience per se. was what was selling cars, Cadillac would be doing MUCH better than they are. Because IMHO they pretty much crush several other brands with their driving dynamics.
  8. Interestingly, this is going to cost VW big bucks, as when they built the Chattanooga plant and the upgrade on the Pueblo plant, they did not figure in building AWD/4WD vehicles. There will ahve to be major, expensive changes made according to VW insiders I know. Sounds like another case of VW not understanding the North American market. I just don't understand how they can sell Audi's like lemonade on a hot day, and yet fall on their face for decades with VW. It's not like they haven't been selling cars here for 60 years...one would think that after 6 decades in a market one would understand it. But VW seems as lost here as an eight day old house cat with brain damage. And I actually like several of their products...
  9. Perhaps. VW is bringing in an AWD version of the Jetta wagon. Now, if GM would build a diesel manual Cruze wagon...THAT would be the cats ass!
  10. ...and yet Audi is outselling Cadillac IIRC..
  11. This would be highly unusual for them....although at times owners will add a tune that will cause them to smoke. But at a recent TDI gathering, we had several white cars, several of which had gone for weeks without being washed, still clean on the rear bumper. The DPF catches almost everything out of the tailpipe.
  12. probably in search of some bug like a beetle.... Your results are pretty much making me think strongly about a TDI Jetta Wagon....
  13. Pretty much this...the golf made an awkward transition to a neo-luxury car.
  14. To an extent I feel it already has been- Pretty much this, although what sold Luxury cars in the past is as dead as the rear wheel drive Cutlass.
  15. Highest sales runs counter to exclusivity.
  16. The Germans do seem unstoppable in some ways with luxury cars.
  17. The biggest issue is that it doesn't say BMW or Mercedes on it. But Lexus has got some sales increase recently with the IS350 and that has a dated engine and transmission also. ATS to me feels smaller inside than any of the German sedans, the build quality just doesn't seem there either, reminds me too much of a Chevy when I sit in one. Powertrains are yesterdays news, they should have an 8 speed transmission, better fuel economy, more power and refinement, etc. CTS is in the same boat, dated powertrains, weak marketing and I feel like the CTS's 2 biggest competitors come from its own showroom, because the ATS looks similar and is $10k cheaper, the XTS is priced identical to the CTS so 2 cars compete for the same dollar. An amazing stat is that Audi sold as many cars in China in June as Cadillac sold there in all of 2013. Audi is on pace for over 500,000 sales in China this year, Cadillac's global volume is less than that. Cadillac may just be too far behind to ever catch up. Again Buick sells plenty of Volume for China. And yes, Audi is on fire. They are staying on message, unlike their VW brethren.
  18. Plus they are a nice break from modern iron...and one can only look at so many sixty nine Camaro pics... Absolutely!
  19. Almost posted this in the car spotting thread and did not. Son got a flat on his car, so I dropped by his job with an air tank and followed him to the tire store. Manager had a current gen Regal, dechromed, tasteful aftermarket rims, lowered aninch or two. The definition of subtle. And wickedly cool. Dfelt, you summed up well what I like in modern automobiles. To me, a MkVII GTI, CTS-v wagon, Boxster, et am is as cool as any car for on the 50s or 60s. I like the modern understated look.
