  1. I would try to find a used transmission out of a salvage yard if it were me, if you want to keep it. You're talking about the '98 in your sig?
  2. Excellent news, Mr. walc.
  3. GM's 60-degree OHV V6 is not their best V6 (3800 and 3.6L best it, for sure), but it certainly has powered millions of cars and trucks over the past... 28 years or so... in an unobtrusive, efficient manner (Although I prefer the older versions for their exhaust note if nothing else). And the 4 speed automatic has won praise for its function from many sources. Am I wrong to believe Ford approached GM to help them jointly engineer a new 6 speed automatic partly because of GM's success with FWD transaxles?

    Pictures!

The texture may be worn off, that looks like the rubber material the rim is made of.
  5. Ohhhh... z. This is gonna be so cool for you. Excellent news, bud! I can't wait to see it, even in boxes.
  6. I still say the car is handsome except for the front end. The MAXX bodystyle is very versatile (yes, I know it has not sold well, nor has the european version sold well, last I read.) And I will concede that styling still sells cars. If you were disappointed at first glance, what other evidence did you have the car would flop, except for the styling?
  7. Well, waddya think, Mr. NeonLX, are you sufficiently brainwashed? Are you going to now buy an Accord? Are you sorry you ever posted this innocent thread? :AH-HA_wink:
  8. You are right, Mr. Fly: I should not have spread my argument to this thread by adding to the personal attack spiral that was already in progress. Croc: you did not read my last sentence. I am not blaming you, sir. Nor am I blaming evok. I guess you had to be there for it to stick in your head as odd and out of character for either of you. I have but one criticism for the G6 convertible. If they could not have engineered the folding hardtop for adequate trunk space, they should have gone for a traditional canvas roof, which also would have had a simpler mechanism and therefore most likely been more trouble-free over time. The car is a knockout, stylingwise, and seeing the top in action is fascinating, an attention-getter, which, it seems to me to be a goal of a convertible driver. The Sebring, with that high beltline and slab sides, might be a less-attractive bucket to be seen in.
  9. Remember, any GM vehicle must be a proportionally bigger piece of crap than its Japanese competition.
  10. Call me stupid (and I'm sure you will), but I'm still confused about that event in chat. Someone logged in as "Croc", saying "I know you don't like us, but please lay off evok." Then "Croc" disappeared. A very strange manifestation. Somebody needs to come clean (and I'm not saying it was either of you.)
  11. ahem... Bobby... they were missing when I bought it. I only know they existed because I checked the user's manual.
  12. Can someone please flick provok's needle? He's stuck again. Question: are Croc and Evok the same person? Are they at least related? Or do they just share the same sunny viewpoint?
  13. Chris, you got rid of your FourTwo?
  14. Talladega
  15. Sweet! Hope you enjoy it.

  18. Okay, back from the JD Power Consumer Center website. The car does well vs. the competition in several categories. I sampled a Malibu LT 2.2L against an Altima 2.5S, a Camry CE, an Accord LX and a Fusion SE. The Malibu is a solid, quality car let down only by its front end design, and even that is subjective. The car has a history of good scores for quality, extending from the last generation car.

I admit, I'm still mad that the B-body went out of production. It was the quintessential American car. If GM had a bit more foresight, a Zeta platform car could have been its direct replacement... instead of coming 12 years later.

    HOT!

Here in PA, yesterday was the worst... then all hell broke loose. We had a terrific storm last evening, and lingering showers after the storm. It was a driving rain, the whole atmosphere seemed to have dropped, with a black fog cutting visibility. I drove through two areas of foot-deep water. One area, I had to wait for a new Pathfinder to turn around and turn back, scared to drive through it. The other area, an Escort slammed on his brakes in front of me, I had to go around him. My normal route home was blocked by a downed tree. The top branch of one of my maple trees broke off and landed on the roof of my neighbor's shed about 20 feet away. It's a heavy, big branch. The wind must have been very strong to carry it. But the storm didn't clear out the humidity. Today it was a degree or two cooler, but still very humid.
  22. Exhibit 1: the original post in this thread. Why am I even explaining this to you? Mr. NeonLX is representative of the customer this car is aimed toward. And I am certain he's not the only person in America who likes the car. You are doing now what you admonished me for doing months ago... defending a fellow member who does not need to be defended. I will thank you to stay out of this. Don't be hypocritical.

Hmmm... yes, I like the old B-body bodystyle.. but what on Earth made it look badass? The 17" rims? The (nice) barely-there spoiler? The body color grille? The blacked-out trim? It really wasn't very different from a garden-variety Caprice. The sheer size of the car, imo, had a lot to do with its persona.
