What the fudge is this crap moderators ? That is not my spelling moderators !

I was not aware that Buick and Pontiac were unprofitable at least until this year or last. Hard to tell now with all GM's losses being thrown into this years financial reports, makes everything look bad. But the mistakes were made years ago. This is a foolish thread and is once again aimed at destroying makes of cars that are the reason some of us are here in the first place. And if this isnt a rollover and eat sand with a smile, I dont know what is " And if GM is globalizing production, then it should be some amount cheaper to do things for all makes" The above picture of General Motors is nothing more than an applied name to something that it is not. An American car company.

Then our tree heats our house and makes wonderfull crackling sounds while doing so. Ah yes, the burning of the tree.

The eco friendly thing is a joke. People make a living planting, growing and pruning Christmas trees. Takes around 15 years. Then their cut and another planted and the cycle begins again. I get mine from thinning areas on stateland that were previously clear cut and have now come up overcrowded. Everyone makes it sound like your destroying the nations forests by having a Christmas tree, that a man planted in some old field that was once cleared for farm land - over a century ago. Other issues more politically correct are the unfriendly eco threats. Also byproducts from all the artificial products we so cherish are another eco problem. Just look at the sides of your roads, or local landfill for instance. A machine that shakes the trees, that is an awsome idea but I had never heard of it.

I know those 6 speeds are going to stink around here, the 4 sppeds do, I use D or 3rd to avoid all the upshifting downshifting all the time with the hills. That and the fact that if you in OD you going down the hills at 70 unless your one of those hot brake riders. The six speed may have a few limited uses out in the pararies but for the most part I believe they are "gotta have" mental masterbation. You know like the guitar amp that goes to 11 on the dial so that way you have 1 more. I drove my buddys C5 and never even made it to 6th, not that we were cruising.
-
The reason GM's are slightly lower in fuel economy is they are slightly behind in developement. That and most likely the Japs are lying, they always come up a little short. :P
-
caprice - your understanding of OD is all messed up. Overdrive in common automatics and standard trannys is simply a higher gear in the transmissions that reduces engine RPM's and it has absolutely no power what so ever. The output shaft of the tranny actually turns faster than the crankshaft, OD is for reduced RPMs at highway speed only. Not all heavy trucks have three ranges, the third would be your overdrives. The 13 speed, 15 speed and 18 speed have the OD range. THe 8,9,10 speeds have a low range and the normal range in which your highest gear is direct drive, that 1:1 crankshaft : output shaft. Then many of the trucks that are used for construction and go "off pavement" also have a deep reduction for even slower ruff terrain travel. The exact opposite of overdrive.

seems funny you would have to be floored to get to speed on split laners maybe you didnt use your gears and powerband proper ? I would never expect either of the overdirves to be much use other than for cruising. You have to remember that is nearly 25% less engine. It should be smaller and lighter but I guess they are not. I dont understand why it would sound burdoned or loud ? whats CTS weight ? I do so appreaciate you comment about the Riv. damn that old L67 anyhow ;-)

I dont see why some of the concepts features could not be used ? Wider would be better but it cant be shorter, theres already a rearseat problem. I can see how narrower European chassis would be a problem for more track without new stampings for floorpan and engine frames but really ? how hard is that ? The rest is same parts bin. Still an expensive retool. Simply using deeper wheels increases stress on bearings, not an issue for a concept car but it is for one with 80,000 miles. As for HP, I just had the misfortune to witness a kinda dumb televised review of mid sedans and those V6's werent packin any kind of astonishing power. Myself, Ill be drivin 38's years from now and still be smilin, can I option out a GTP with the L32 and dat dar new stick tranny. Then I can go aftermarket and pump it up to 320 or so at the wheels. Oh well, know it alls, gotta have that 60* !

I can find items in there that I think are less important than others........but what about the important ones ? There has been many post here and elsewhere about disatisfaction with dealerships or sales approaches, pricing, rebates, not to mention perception. No I dont think this is the entire answer but how much could it help ? What could some of it hurt ? Theres a few things there I wouldnt bother with, I admit. in regards to the last few paragraphs - I am curious as to many, many of GM's business decisions, not that Ive heard anyone else wonder or question them  edit : in case I havent said it in a few post - I still believe the health care industry totally needs to be curbed, possibly beaten, yes indeed they may actually be to the point of deserving a good firm beatin'. This includes abusers of the system as well, that includes the legal profession and their scam artist partners in crime. but then what would make the world go round ?

I think G6 looks great as it is, externally. Problem with that air dam is it would get torn off all the time. G6 too heavy for an I4 Solstice tranny is RWD, G6 needs FWD tranny. Current V6 engines are fine with the 65E 4sp but the 6 speed FWD standard should be an option for all GM cars. period ! Current V6 engines are fine, I believe they should apply the SC to the 3.5 being how that seems to get milage where the 3.9 is a problem. A blown 3.5 should smoke the 3.9 and possibly the 3.6 no sweat. Pontiac does not deserve the 3.6 when Buick needs a better car body or how about a new chassis - hello ! Pontiac interiors need help, talk about drab. I dont know what they can do about the back seat headroom so thats going to have to stay until the arched top finally becomes old and better approaches to intellegent styling are refound. But yes you are right that they need to get that interior attention ASAP.

Not everyone gets to grow up in that neighborhood. hey sixty8 my second on the road car was a 75 CVCC, not my choise, I wanted a real cool Volvo but was talked out of it by feminazi step be-ach "because there was no way it could get even 10 mpg" I thought the Honda was great except for that two speed manually shifted auto, but then it showed its true value as a divine POS. Yep, no hondas in my future - ever ! I will say however before it showed its mechanically impaired side it was great driving home on snowy winter nights passing all those old BOF RWD'ers either putting their tire chains on or waiting for the sanders. :P Now a 64 Series III Alpine is a excelent first car. To bad it took me 5 years to get it done and on the road  Anyhow - this Challenger Rocks, this is a car that could get me back into a "Chrysler", compared to that 300 meets Kenworth mongreloid and somewhat strange Cadillac offerings this is like a breath of fresh air.
-
I dont even need to look at it or read about it. If its a new Toyota its great and I must find a way to get me one.
-
No I havent, and I did think it strange that it could not be posted but yet would be mailed or whatever that deal was, I did not follow those threads because I could see they were becomming a huge gangbang bash fest. As for analyzing........didnt someone analyze Fiat back in the 90's and make some great "power point" decision based on that analysis ? I guess this would be one of the times that doing nothing would have been the best bet ?

I'd be willing to listen to buickman if he had more to talk about than ousting Wagoner. It's funny how months back, he became so irate with C&G and with Josh when he wasn't being interviewed. He asked for all his posts to be removed, as if they were knowledge that we plebians couldn't have. Now all of a sudden he's "honored" that Josh has shown interest again.
First Im not standing up for the guy, but I will say when you guys get tag teaming someone rather than give a listen and open the mind and see the other side, do you not expect them to get irate ?.....yaright !...thats the whole point of it in the first place, isnt it ? Do a little PM chitty chatty then go for the throat because this is someone that does not see our side but rather their own. I think I know a little about this.......do I not ?
Buickman seems to regurgitate everything he says again and again.
Now what is this ? Im thinkin the use of that regurgitating word is meant to be some kind of insult or reference to accute retardation, at least thats how I have come to interpret it and its use here. Just to shed some simple basic knowledge on the subject of someone repeating their stance.......here we go.....ready?......its because thats what they believe in, thats what they are faced with, thats the world that they live in. Rather than deny credit to someones existance, experiance, and evaluation of that givin situation why dont you listen to it, obsorb it and realize that the friggin world is not flat ?
C&G knows what the real problem with GM has been
now, I have been around here enough to know that you know GM's problem is not simple or accredited to a "real" problem. Though myself I would say its mostly because we have allowed foreign competition to purchase property within our country thereby making it alright for the American public to by foreign because its now somehow American
always, for decades now, is the PRODUCT.
I still say bullshit to this one. I have asked a few times as to what ricemobile built in the mid-late 80's was a better car than my 1986 Buick LeSabre Limited ? Not a single answer but somehow Im sure some friggin Honda or Toyota or Nissan had the ass tray mounted just perfect so as to prove my LeSabre was justifiably junk. I will not deny that the lowly Chevy models and their divisional counterparts should have been better and that they were the cars that competed directly with the compact that imports were at that time. BUT! Still everyone pulls them out of their hat to sum up the overview of all GM products.
Clean. cut. clear. simple.
If only ! All the kings horses and all the kings men ! Delphi Fight Shows Executive Pay Not So Lavish
razoredge replied to Mister Period's topic in Industry News
Let them bolt, it will hurt no one but the companies they bolt too. Im sure there is a line of great thinkers that can take care of this and many other problems around town that are not yet members of this elite unspoken Union holding the citizens of this country at bay with imported dogs. -
I agree, rather than try something anything its just best to sit and do nothing and just watch everything flow away. Ingenious !
-
Funny movie ! Now, why do you say Olds had a big & small block ?
-
Im not sure about the sixteens state of developement but otherwise I agree All these concepts like the Velite, Bengal and many others should have been built 5-10 side by side. Certainly special tooling had to be fabricated. This way GM could recover some of the R&D or manhours. I could see how someone purchasing say a Twin Turbo Velite for 120,000 would be pretty pissed if they came to market 2 years later for 40,000. :o Truth is the insurance and safety regulations would destroy any chance of making this type of speciality handbuilt low production cars possible. I feel it would go along ways toward R&D funding as well as publicity. Imagine what some of Earls dream cars would bring at auction today if not destroyed ? Now imagine if there were 5-10 each of them ?
