  1. My head is spinning. Congrats to all involved.
  2. I think you miss the point. No brands need to be euthanized because of the consolidations.
  3. James McMurtry - Too long in the wasteland
  4. Sounds like a universal middle school activity...
  5. 3 or 4 brands is essentially what you will have once the consolidation of B-P-G and Cad-Saab-Hummer is completed. The way GM is going about this is the right way to go - consolidation without killing brands. It is a very smart approach, much smarter than the way Oldsmobile was handled.
  6. Cool little beastie,68.
  7. Not everything powered by a V8 BV, just something powered by a V8. We've been deprived of good RWD V8 cars too long to have them all snatched away now.
  8. Sinister indeed!
  9. Well, this "news" isn't news at all - we've known about it for how long now? As such, it doesn't call for any "action" to "fix" it. What is news is : -Sales are up in a down market (again). While the rest are down. -New product that is both critically accalimed and selling well -an actual profit was made once the one-time issues are excluded. -the pace of new intros is being maintained, and quite a few new cars will be replaced long before they get old. - last time I checked, the trucks had dropped in sales less than expected. You all know the drill. BTW: Wall St. seems pretty happy with GM's progress. Take a look at who's been up over the last six months. And who hasn't been. GM will be just fine.
  10. Sorry, no V8 and I'm gone. Say what you will, but I'm not interested in small cars, V6s or 4 bangers. And you can forget all about FWD - never, and I mean never, will I buy one. Vettes and Caddys aren't really my thing and I'm not willing to spend the cash on them. So, one more rip-roaring V8 Pontiac and I'm all done with new cars until what I want becomes available again.
  11. Ford also built the original Jeeps under contract to the US government. The design was by American Bantam, but they didn't have the capacity to build them in quantitiy, so Willys and Ford did.
  12. I miss most of them... and some rip my heart out when I think about it too much.
  13. Happy birthady, CD. Thanks for all you do around here.
  14. Lyrics are my thing, but I've been known to sing from time to time.
  15. If I could only get there. *sigh*
  16. Well PCS, I'd like to thank you for posting this excellent explanation of the "whys" of your situation. I had imagined that, given the level of responsibility of your GM position, that posting here had to be a point of concern for you. I hope that your time here has "challenged" you enough that perhaps your understanding of GM enthusiasts has deepened a bit. I wish you well on a personal level, and you know how to contact me. One parting thought: the future need not all be bleak and boring in the way GM complies with the new regulations. :AH-HA_wink:
  17. I just don't do small, even with something as tempting as a Kappa. It's really a moot point for me anyway, I have to daily drive the Silverado. Any second vehicle I might buy would not be driven enough for mpg concerns to enter into the equation.
  18. Pure comedy.
  19. I think you've glossed over the point here. CR has extremely flawed methods and has admitted to publishing outright falsehoods as well as rating new products with only their own previous ratings of earlier products by the same manufacturer to go on. CR is junk.
  20. I think we'll let this one slide as long as it remains civil. This is a very important election, and one which holds major implications for the auto industry.
  21. The tech to use hydrogen in cars and trucks of any size and type exists right now, only infrastructure is lacking. Fuel cells - not so much And no, I don't want to drive an electric car really. And what about all of those spent batteries? What do we do with that toxic waste? An interesting side effect of electric power used in cities was mentioned on C-SPAN recently. A guy called in to say that he was nearlt killed by one recently because he couldn't hear it coming - the caller was bliind.
  22. Good answers so far. Mine: 4 and 6 cylinder engines FWD automatic transmission 4 doors Nav heated seats leather backup sensors power windows airbags stability control side-impact door beams any video screens whatsoever heated steering wheel power mirrors adaptive cruise control Onstar Bluetooth XM radio dual zone climate control seatbelt warning buzzers, chimes, and lights door ajar buzzers, chimes and lights daytime running lamps power seats a hood you cannot see from inside the car! 23. Glad I'm not alone. :AH-HA_wink:
