  1. I would have to say I'm pretty high up there, although I'm not really into comic books, Star Wars/Star Trek, and I'm not up on the latest video games or computer hardware. I still don't even own a cell phone, and I hate to read. I'm a draftsman, and CAD tech. Today I had the office manager asking me questions about formulas in Excel. I also have a part time job at a home improvement store, and have become pretty good with plants. I can answer pretty much all the questions the old ladies buying flowers can throw at me. Earlier tonight I was checking out my purple leafed sand cherry that I planted last year (the buds are ready to pop, yay!). I'm also building a butterfly garden in my front yard. I've always been into cars, and could tell the make (if not always the model) of just about every car I saw by kindergarden. I still collect toy cars (although I like to think of them as scale replicas, not toys). I collect brochures and browse car lots from time to time just for fun. My computer room (I guess I am nerdy, I have a computer room!) has the walls lined with license plates, die cast cars and car posters, signs and ads. Some people think it is cool, and some don't. As far as sports, I was never much into any of them. I'm pretty much the most unathletic and uncoordinated non-retarded person on earth. As a kid my other friends wanted to play wiffle ball or football while I was trying to convince them to play scrabble. Gym class... we won't even go there. Oh, I still watch cartoons, and Office Space is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think the only thing I have seen more is the first Back To The Future.
  2. Just curious how many of you leave the dealer advertising on the vehicles you own. The stickers/emblems, license plates and frames, or other... My cars don't have any dealer advertising on them. Sometimes I really don't understand why people keep that stuff on, so if you do please explain. Especially if you buy a used car from Enterprise car sales or something. Why would you want people to know you bought a used rental car? For some reason they didn't put anything on my Impala when I bought it used from a Chevy dealer, which I thought was odd. No rear frame or sticker, and no front plate even though the front bumper had already been drilled by the previous owner/selling dealer. I would have taken it all off anyway if they had. The funny thing is they put all of those things on my Cutlass when they put it on thier used lot. The Olds dealer I bought the Cutlass from gave me a front plate, which I replaced with an Oldsmobile plate after about a month. I kept the frame around the rear plate for about three years (until I got a new state issued plate and had to take it all apart anyway), since the dealer I bought it from was about an hour from where I live... sort of an anti-advertisement towards the local Olds dealers that sucked. I also got no sticker/emblem from them. The Alero was purchased from a used only lot, the sticker and plate frame were gone within 24 hours from purchase.
  3. eeeeeaaahhhh every time I go to the dentist they remind me that I should have mine removed... I really don't want to. I have a dentist appt for a cleaning next week...
  4. that oversized passenger airbag already mentioned was called the "airbank system" and it was used on the Fleetwood and Deville in the mid nineties. I also recall it listed on the specs of the '97 (and assuming 98/99) Grand Prix as included with the no-cost bench seat option on the SE sedans (I miss the days of the no-cost bench option). Don't know if GM used/uses it in other models and just didn't advertise it as such, or not.
  5. Looks like the new CTS instead of the old one... for once I prefer the smaller car. ...and the Chinese SLS is different than the STS, but I don't think it's any better nor any worse ...just different.
  6. Would love to see a big luxo coupe, but the sedan probably makes the best business case. If it's sucessful, they could always add a coupe the next round. Either way, nothing I'll be able to afford anytime soon... even if I traded my HOUSE on one.
  7. I'm sure it was well intentioned, but considering what has happened recently, your retreat probably wasn't the best thing to clear your mind. When I need to clear my head, I usually lay across my bed and listen to music (angry music works best for me) and think about what is bothering me. Sometimes that is enough to clear my head. When that doesn't work, I try hanging out with people that I can talk to about totally unrelated things (distraction). Quiet time (like watching movies) will give your mind time to stew again. Sorry, I know it's lame advice.
  8. I like Cadillacs and wagons too, but this doesn't mesh quite right. I think seeing it without roofrails would improve my opinions. Sportcombi looks worlds better.
  9. No way... not that I have any bad intents, but one can never know if they will be in a situation where they would want to hide out for a reason. Plus, way too many oppurtunities for abuse, just look at the recent news about the patriot act.

I honestly wouldn't be offended if they kept the 3800 as the base engine, but I'm betting they will not. Definately 3.6, maybe 3.5 as a base engine?
  11. Wow... you're makin' me feel old. I loved the '94 LHS/New Yorker too, especially the roofline. It was so formal, but not ... Thinking about this in a bit more detail, the first car I really remember liking was the 73 Caprice/Impala. I couldn't have been more than three or four, and at the point when I started noticing them and just picturing myself riding in one... in the back seat even. I also liked the '72 Cutlass Supreme with the two rows of square tail lights, and the early 80s Cutlass sedans with the tail lights divided into squares. 82/83 Century, 78/79 Delta 88 for their tail light shapes. I also liked the Lincoln Mark VI with the tire hump (the first car I ever tried drawing, think I still have it somewhere). I was always most fascinated with the rear styling of most cars (guess you could say I was an "ass man" :AH-HA_wink: ) Back in the days before composite headlights, the tail light shapes were the most unique part of the car for me. I could pick out most cars by seeing the tail lights illuminated at night by the time I was 9 or 10. One exception to my rear ends was the undercut nose of the '86+ Buick Century. After all that, I think the Riv was still the first car I wanted to own/drive.
  12. Riviera... 79-85 model, and it HAD to be white with a white landau top or just plain painted roof. I wished that someone could have bought one for me, and saved it in a garage until I was old enough to drive it. Well, nobody did... I did look at one once (not white, blue), and test drove a Toronado which I would rather have now. Also, strangely enough I had a thing for the Pontiac Parisienne with the slotted Caprice shaped tail lights.
  13. I was using Netscape up until about a month ago when I started having problems with pages loading. Have been using Firefox ever since. I hate IE with a passion.
  14. I like the idea a Chrysler sedan that is larger than the 300, but I HATE the styling of the concept. Hopefully they will come up with something new in the styling department if they build it.
  15. Good, the Precision Red stays. Laser Blue was kind of cool looking. Too bad they all have XM now though.
  16. So far I like what I'm seeing. Can't wait to see them without a bag over their head.
  17. Yes, the rabbits are out. I just ran over one with the Impala on Friday night. As far as trees go, I was taking some yard waste over my back hill yesterday, and I decided to check on the five hemlock trees I planted in the fall. I could only find one, and it was just a chewed up stick. stupid deer
  18. I will miss it, front wheel drive and all. The last of the MC/GP/Cutlass/Regal coupes to exist. I considered buying a '99 brand new, but decided I would rather have an Olds so I bought my Cutlass Supreme instead. With Olds gone, I would have bought a new MC to replace the Cutlass, but having a bench seat was more important to me. Since the '00+ models did not offer one, I settled for the Impala.
  19. It's funny how different people pull different things out of similar experiences. My dad and grandfather both had a hubcapped Cutlass (my dad had two). I loved Olds, and bought one (without hubcaps of course!) My other grandfather is the Pontiac man. He always drove Pontiacs, and they all had hubcaps with whitewalls, column shifters (excluding the Grand Am) and front wheel drive since his '82 6000. His current car is a Buick Century (with hubcaps) Currently, my sister drives a Sunfire and wants a G6 as her next car, and my g/f wants a Grand Prix. Bonneville was more my style personally, but that is gone already. None of us want rear wheel drive, and it worries me that more people may think like us than otherwise. My dad's one friend was the only RWD holdout I knew. He drove Camaros, a RWD Cutlass, Cordoba, Caprice and a Cougar. After his daughter bought an Achieva, he finally broke down and let his wife buy a Grand AM GT coupe, and he loves it!
  20. Seems to be a problem with 4x4/AWD SUV owners. People don't understand that better traction may help you go, but nothing will help you stop/steer on ice. Seriously, as big of a FWD fan as I am, I have had some fun driving RWD in the snow. I used to have a '91 GMC Jimmy (ok, it was actually my dad's, but my friends thought it was mine :AH-HA_wink: ). I wasn't afraid to take that thing anywhere, but in the back of my head I knew if I got stuck there was 4wd to help me get free... although I never needed it.
  21. That's actually not funny, but it was funny that a lady I work with just bought a used Intrepid last week, that looked exactly like that one... even the same color. We were watching the news at lunch time when it came on. The boss said "hey, look it's your new car" ...guess you had to be there...
  22. Having a focused lineup of only three or four models is one thing, but each of those models should be a sales knockout. Just looking at the numbers, I fear Pontiac is doing what GM claimed they learned from Olds: don't alienate your core buyer. I have serious doubts about current GP/Bonneville owners buying Chevys or Saturns as their first alternative (GM was ingorant assuming Olds buyers would just buy Buicks). I'm hoping for their sake they know what they're doing and the G8 is a bigger success than anticipated. If the capacity is 50,000 that would be a start, and if the GP continues to be built past Dec '07(?) even better. More features/models also means more sales... I'd like to see them add an all-wheel drive option, and maybe even a hatch/tailgate model like the Holden concept of a few years ago.
  23. From GM media online: Pontiac sold 108,634 Grand Prixs during the 2006 calender year and 122,398 the previous year. The Bonneville sold just over 30,000 in 2004 (last full production year) and that car was axed. Maybe would help if I had model year figures instead of calender year (can't differ that much?), or the fleet/retail breakdown. I know someone is dying to point out that Avis and Alamo love Grand Prixs, but not 78,000 of them a year. I know high sales numbers don't translate directly to profit, but I think Pontiac needs to do better than this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that GM is setting the estimates intentionally low, but even if they double the initial estimates it will only be about half of the Grand Prix, and that's not even including the Bonneville which this car was supposed to also replace. I just hate to see GM lose more market share.
