Alfa Romeo Investment Being Scaled Back :Comments
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Alfa Romeo
I'd consider a lease on a Stelvio or Guilia...I think one would be fun for a short term fling, not any sort of long term commitment. About the only current Nissans I'd probably enjoy would be the 370Z or GT-R. Maybe a Maxima. I've driven the old 350Z and a 370Z as rentals, they were a lot of fun, if you look past the cheap interior materials. The Infiniti coupe and small sedan seem pretty nice also. -
I use a USB drive loaded w/ music sometimes, but accessing it through the UConnect touch screen is so slow that's it is impractical to use. Streaming from Amazon Music on my phone over bluetooth is much faster. Same content for the most part (since I've bought most of my CDs from Amazon for over 20 years and Amazon makes purchases available to stream, and the USB content is my iTunes library which was ripped from those CDs). Plus I can discover content I don't have through Amazon Music playlists, found some interesting stuff. I didn't have Sirius XM before this Jeep, but really like it, to the point of never using AM or FM anymore..I don't like the advertising and limited content on AM or FM. I also like to stream podcasts from Overcast on my iPhone as well. Having a lot of choices for content consumption and finding what works for you is great.

That was something I liked about living in Arizona. No time change.
-
Yep...and the same with their mealtime...let me know an hour earlier...
-
I don't like the time change..gets dark too early. I'm always a little off for a week or so after the time change. And the dogs now wake me at 6 instead of 7am. Oh well....

Saw a really clean black '97-03 Grand Prix 2dr pulling out of a parking lot this afternoon...looked rust free..always liked the roofline on that era.
-
Waze + Amazon Music / Sirius XM for me. And not having to drive at all is the best commute.

I do like inline 6s. Had really good experiences with 3 of them—Jeep 4.0, BMW 3.2 and Mercedes 3.0. It’s nice to see them having a mini revival with Mercedes and others. I’d love to see a new inline 6 from FCA for future Jeeps. I think my folks had at least one car with an inline 6 before I was born...an early 60s Ford Fairlane wagon when my older siblings were kids.

And they sell a lot in S. America also. Remember, the US market is very different from the rest of the world. -

Blah....a Charger on FWD/transverse platform would make no sense. The 208 is just a FWD/transverse engine generic. At least the Guilia platform is a proper RWD platform. The 208 is a good Golf competitor, but would it sell here? In this CUV/SUV/truck dominated market? -

That's in Europe. I can't imagine they could sell much in the US. -

That would be a disaster..given the LX platform models are the only thing Dodge has going, I'd assume they will survive and evolve. Without the Charger and Challenger there is no Dodge. The Durango will probably be replaced by the 3 row next-gen Grand Cherokee, the Journey could be replaced by something derived from the next Cherokee.. I'm not sure if Dodge needs CUVs/SUVs since Jeep has plenty. For Chrysler, I don't see the Voyager/Pacifica going anywhere, not sure about the 300.. It will be interesting to see if we see Peugeot/Citroen/DS dealers eventually if this goes through, or if those brands get integrated into the existing FCA JRCD dealers. Though I can't see PSA-branded FWD midsize sedans or compact hatchbacks doing well in the US, given the CUV-dominant market we have now... -
Those are all important, but cabin tech is something you deal with every time you get in a vehicle.. if it's dated, a bad design or works poorly that would be a source of constant irritation.

Ease of operability and integration of the infotainment system is critical..I couldn't imagine buying something new that doesn't have Apple Car Play and good bluetooth pairing w/ my iPhone. That would be as crazy as buying a car 30 years ago with only an AM/FM radio and no cassette deck or CD player.

I didn't say they were, but were very forgettable appliances on a Fiat-Alfa platform.. -

Well, the Regal is a rebadged Euro model and a sales failure, the Dart and 200 were based on a European platform and were failures. Anecdotal, maybe. I can't imagine trying to sell Peugeot/Citroen FWD sedans as Dodge or Chryslers, the small and midsize FWD sedan niche is a dead end these days. Peugeot and Citroen have lots of CUVs, but Jeep has lots of CUVs. Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. -

I've seen maybe a 1/2 dozen Stelvios and 1/2 dozen Guilias around NE Ohio over the last few months...they are selling, albeit in small numbers..certainly distinctive looking. I hear they drive great.. -

I do like the PNW... I wouldn't mind living there at some point. Though I'm thinking in a few years I may move to the Boston area (my favorite East Coast city, and close to mountains, beaches and islands). -
Without googling it, I believe it dates to the 1930s...something to do with the head bolts on the engine resembling bolts on old stoves..a distinctive design..

Well, I'm from Ohio originally..NE Ohio is very green w/ rolling hills, rivers and lakes..lots of fall colors...and Lake Erie w/ islands. I love it. I lived in Colorado for 12 years before Arizona, did like it there. I don't miss AZ at all, it just didn't suit me. -

Wasn't it the French government that put the kibosh on the FCA-Renault deal? It was under different terms, IIRC.. -

Anyway, back on track, it will be interesting to see where the PSA-FCA thing goes...wonder if it will get through regulatory hurdles in the several countries involved.
