  1. I wonder how that Buick got on the ceiling..odd place to park.
  2. Ok...by that rationale, one could argue the '76 Impala was but not ones after that ... Size categories like full size grow and shrink with the times they are in...consider something as small as a '49-52 Chevy, then a '55 Chevy, a '59 Chevy, a '76 Impala, an '85 Impala, a '10 Impala...all different sizes, but all were categorized as full size (or 'standard' as it was called in olden days). Or 'compact'--with Chevy, something as big as a mid '70s Nova or as small as a Cobalt would be considered compact depending on its point in time... Ultimately, the public doesn't know and doesn't care in general..such terminology means nothing to them--all they care about is how much per month a car is and the gas mileage and what Consumer Reports says about it.... Categorization terminology today seems to exist for car geeks like us to argue about on the internet. Peace out...
  3. <redneck voice> Ford, GM, Chrysler- Amurican everything elts- Furrin </redneck voice>
  4. I'd be suspicious of a Tennessee built Merc, since the US built ones are built in Alabama... If I bought a Mercedes or BMW, I'd prefer one built in Germany...
  5. True, but the terms really don't matter anymore..the marketing gurus will define the products however they want to....the rental car companies define them randomly also (calling a Cruze a midsize, a Malibu a full-size, etc). None of it matters...it just is what it is...
  6. Was sitting in traffic next to the local Chevy store's fenced in commercial vehicle lot and saw a row of Caprice PPVs, white w/ black steelies..probably getting prepped for one of the local police departments...
  7. Every 2 years for emissions in AZ and you can register for 2 years at a time here, which is nice. The one thing about AZ registrations I really like is the one plate...will miss that when I leave (unless I move to another one plate state).
  8. Interesting...window stickers..that's quaint..so that's what they do in PA when you get registered? Here in AZ I just get the a year/month sticky for the license plate after getting the bi-annual emmissions test... No, nothing to do with registration (that's a sticker on the plate). These are inspection and emissions inspection stickers. Ah... emission inspection just yields a form w/ pass/fail that is used then to get the registration sticker here in AZ. No separate sticker for emissions. Same in Colorado, though IIRC, Colorado used to have a windshield sticker for emission inspection, but got rid of around 2001...
  9. I wonder if that means there will be more than 3 inches between the front wheel well opening and door line... that dimension is what really pegs something as looking FWD or RWD, at least w/ today's FWD models, IMO. That and the related wheelwell intrusion into the interior because of not enough distance between firewall and wheel wells (the front wheel wells shouldn't intrude into interior space on a front engined car, that's just weak design, IMO). In the old days at least w/ some FWD models like the pre-86 GM E-bodies you couldn't tell by looking at them...

  11. Now if it was a '73 Marquis, that would get my attention...
  12. well... it'd look like a Golf. Huh? I think he meant 'hatchback' instead of 'sedan'.
  13. Here is the Golf/Jetta wagon....so the A3's rear overhang is between that of the 5dr Golf and this...closer to the Golf, so I'd categorize it as a hatchback. Not that it really means anything..
  14. Fifth Avenue
  15. How about Suzuki? They aren't working w/ VW or GM anymore on small cars, are they?
  16. IIRC, in both the Colorado and Arizona registrations and on my State Farm insurance info my Grand Cherokee's bodystyle is listed as 'sta wag' or 'SW'. A typical 5dr CUV or SUV is basically a high riding tall wagon...
  17. The '80s wheels and various mods make it look like a grandma car that a high school student modified circa 1984 or so...
  18. Weight, safety, and lower cost of development and manufacturing are probably all reasons for going to front hinged door for the extended cab... It is interesting that Ram today has 3 different 4dr cabs...the extended cab, crew cab, and mega cab..
  19. I suppose I'd consider it more a 5dr hatch than a wagon..the 3rd window doesn't mean much--many 5dr hatchbacks have had a 3rd side window--see the '80s US Escort, Rover 3500, Sterling, etc. Sometimes a 5dr hatch has a steeper rake to the C-pillar, sometimes not. What makes the 5dr Golf a hatchback and the wagon version (badged a Jetta in the US) a wagon? Or the 1st gen Focus--it was available as a 5dr hatch and a wagon...with the Golf/Jetta and the Focus, the wagon clearly has more rear bodywork than the 5dr..longer cargo area, longer roof.
  20. Meh...kind of pointless w/o a turbo Buick V6.
  21. Saw a 2nd Prius V, in dark red. And saw one of the new generation 3-series sedans last night..didn't realize they were out yet...saw it from behind, thought it was a 5 until I saw the size difference and badging. Saw an Acura RL race car yesterday afternoon...don't know what the story behind that was, parked in the lot of car customizing shop...looks like it had a roll cage and was covered in sponsor decals...
  22. Saw some loading of new post slowness and driver errors this morning...and slowness after pressing the 'post' button whilst creating new posts.
  23. Happy Birthday!
  24. Interesting..they did leave the brightwork shiny around the windows. Had they blacked that out they could say it's 'murdered out' as the kiddies like to say. Not my cup of tea, I'd rather have an Overland in True Blue or Rugged Brown.
  25. Ah...never really paid attention to that.
