The '56 T-bird is about the only continental kit I like because it was standard that year... the ones with the spacing between the body and bumper look so tacky and cheesy...

The Taurus has the better looking dash design of the two, IMO. The biggest design flaw w/ the Taurus and MKS IMO is the doors are too tall and flat--they seem F150 sized..need larger windows or section about 4-6 inches out of the body...

Here's a more modern alternative...though I'd get rid of the bulky aluminum thing at the back and have a flat tonneau cover made... Or graft on a Fox body Mustang hatchback and rear C-pillars to make a Town Car 2 seater fastback! http://firsttradereg...2_07/88lincoln/

Bummer...no G3s or G5s.. j/k... the Bonnie, the Grand Am and Trans Ams are fantastic...my favorite is probably the blue w/ blue interior '74. My brother had a '74 Formula 400, same color scheme...alas, it was a rusty Ohio car before it went up in flames.

A lot more A- and B- segment cars being pushed by the car makers...not sure how well they will sell unless gas prices go up, though.

Right, so I was wondering what place it had in the discussion. Meaning that can't compare premium BMW and RR RWD models to GM's FWD mass market models. Maybe 'mainstream' was the wrong word.... the point is, transverse engine w/ FWD is used on mainstream, volume cars...appliances. It has no place in expensive premium models (Lexus only uses it on their entry level volume appliances, for instance--the ES and RX, their serious models are RWD). The XTS will be a volume entry lux model to compete with the MKS and ES. The weak FWD/transverse engine platform makes it uncompetititive with premium models from BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, etc. I'd love to see GM build a legitimate large RWD competitor above the CTS to compete with BMW and M-B...but they aren't going to get there with a weak, mainstream FWD platform. To put it in other terms, FWD is like McDonalds and Wal-Mart. Luxury cars need to aim higher.

You mean like the joke like the Rolls Royce Ghost ($225K) on the 7-series platform ($71k) which is in turn based on the 5-series platform ($41k)?? Re-fixed. Both the 5 and the Ghost are based on the 7. True, but that's a premium RWD platform...not a mainstream transverse engine FWD platform.

That style Datsun pickup was sold in the US in RHD form in the '70s..they had a trim level called the 'Lil Hustler'...haven't seen one in a long time.

Saw a yellow '77-79 Lincoln Mk V that looks like it had suffered a homemade convertible conversion. Instead of a folding top, it had a grubby tarp.

I like the shape of the '78-81 Malibu and LeMans 2drs...the roofline and general shape reminds me of the '64-65 A-bodies..

I wonder if the ATS-V will weigh around 3450lbs....

Don't think I've ever seen a Lincoln flower car in person of any era. Though I've seen photos of a Mark V-based one.
