  1. They do some tailoring, like w/ the Cruze...other markets get more engine choices. GM is an international company, they can't put their head in the sand and focus on one declining market, they have to go where the growth is...
  2. Isn't GM going to abandon that niche like Ford is?
  3. I got the new issue of Road & Track in the mail Friday..has illustrations of the new 911 that are supposed to be fairly accurate. Looks good, clearly an evolutionary design. I believe it's not an update of the 997 (which was an update of the 996) but a new platform, etc. I like the evolutionary approach Porsche takes..the 911 always looks like a 911, regardless of the generation. A 4cyl version would be interesting, and not unprecedented--the 912 had a couple runs in the past..
  4. I'm surprised they didn't build it in Puebla, Mexico like the Jetta...cost of labor would be even cheaper than a non-union plant in TN, I would think.
  5. Yes, from when it replaced the Corsica and the name came back in '97. Even the last RWD ones from '78-83 were as dull as their FWD replacements (Celebrity).
  6. That's only the enthusiast community, though..99% of car buyers have no knowledge of the existence of car markets outside the US.
  7. Ok..I stand corrected..I thought I had read it was being designed by GMDAT like the Cruze, etc.
  8. It's not a police car..in the US, with the highest speed limits being 75, anything over 85 or so is improbable..
  9. Isn't the Malibu going to be a Chevywoo international model, replacing the Epica outside NA? Like the Cruze, Aveo and Spark..all from GMDAT or whatever they are calling it this week...
  10. Lots of interesting dash designs there. One thing I don't like about recent GM designs is how similar they all look wrt the center stack, vertical center vents, 2-3 gauges in a pod, etc..
  11. Putting out fire with gasoline...
  12. sucks
  13. Speaking of someone doing stupid $h! with gasoline, there was something on one of the sites last week about some dolts in an '80s Dodge van that poured gasoline into a cup then poured into the carby...started it, and the gas vapors exploded.
  14. Sounds like a load of not good back east.. I'm supposed to fly back to oh tomorrow for my moms Bday fri
  15. As far as domestic competition, maybe the higher trim levels of the Explorer and Flex and the MKT. For imports, maybe the MDX..
  16. Make your peace. Soon all your internets are belong to usa
  17. Speaking of gas cans, I don't think she still uses it for the lawn mower gas, but my Mom has a can that is over 40 years old that my Dad used for years...a big metal can (like a round barrel w/ a sloped top), with a metal cap that screws on/off w/ a rubber spout that attaches for pouring. I remember my Dad still using it as recently as the mid '90s, used to stick in the trunk of a car and go a couple miles to the gas station in town and fill it up to fuel the tractor and mowers. One of those interesting little details I remember of rural life long ago and far away.
  18. Nothing wrong with that, different niches..the Cruze and LaCrosse are just FWD appliances, 4cyls are fine in such vehicles. As a largish RWD halo/performance model, the Camaro needs a V8 version.
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. Nah...too long ago..I was in college then and used to go through the Hudson area often.
  21. I didn't go to B-J, but went to the Gooding & Company and Russo & Steele auctions this past weekend. Lots of interesting vintage GMs at both shows. Some that stick in my mind: '40 Cadillac Fleetwood 4dr sedan '49 Cadillac convertible '57 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham 4dr gray w/ stainless steel roof '57 Eldorado convertible red '58 Eldorado convertible white '58 Pontiac Bonneville convertible, turquoise and white, tri-power '58 Pontiac Bonneville ht -bronze/white '60 Cadillac ambulance in silver blue '62 Eldorado convertible red '57 Olds 88 convertible-silver blue and white. Incredible chrome detailing inside and out '69 Chevelle Malibu 4dr sedan. A gold plain Jane 307, low mileage, all original..neat survivor. '72 Riviera GS--reddish bronze w/ white interior, white vinyl top w/ sunroof. Gorgeous. Many Impalas and other full size Chevys, incl. a white '66 Biscayne 2dr sedan w/ 427. and a seemingly endless selection of Corvettes, Chevelles, Camaros, Novas,(incl. an orange '69 COPO), and a couple el Caminos.
  22. I remember Euclid and Terex from when I lived in NE Ohio in the late '80s-early '90s..drove by the plant in Hudson many times. Those miniature dealership signs are pretty cool.
  23. Imagine a climate where the winters would have the snow and cold of MN,ND or Buffalo with the summer heat of central AZ. Life would be one continuous hell of unspeakably brutal weather. Got to find the perfect year-round climate...I think I know where it is...
  24. I'd like to see this thread ran through that software that makes an animated video from a script.

    SPORTY

The doors and cab appear to be from the '73-87 generation. The front and bed look very Ford-ish. SA has had some very strange local variations of pickups..of this truck, they made a 2dr extended cab and 4dr version, both w/ integral beds. Ford did strange trucks in SA also.. the '67-style F-series pickup was made into the '90s, updated w/ rectangular headlights..one is seen in the recent movie 'The Expendables'.
