  1. As far as domestic competition, maybe the higher trim levels of the Explorer and Flex and the MKT. For imports, maybe the MDX..
  2. Make your peace. Soon all your internets are belong to usa
  3. Speaking of gas cans, I don't think she still uses it for the lawn mower gas, but my Mom has a can that is over 40 years old that my Dad used for years...a big metal can (like a round barrel w/ a sloped top), with a metal cap that screws on/off w/ a rubber spout that attaches for pouring. I remember my Dad still using it as recently as the mid '90s, used to stick in the trunk of a car and go a couple miles to the gas station in town and fill it up to fuel the tractor and mowers. One of those interesting little details I remember of rural life long ago and far away.
  4. Nothing wrong with that, different niches..the Cruze and LaCrosse are just FWD appliances, 4cyls are fine in such vehicles. As a largish RWD halo/performance model, the Camaro needs a V8 version.
  5. Happy Birthday!
  6. Nah...too long ago..I was in college then and used to go through the Hudson area often.
  7. I didn't go to B-J, but went to the Gooding & Company and Russo & Steele auctions this past weekend. Lots of interesting vintage GMs at both shows. Some that stick in my mind: '40 Cadillac Fleetwood 4dr sedan '49 Cadillac convertible '57 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham 4dr gray w/ stainless steel roof '57 Eldorado convertible red '58 Eldorado convertible white '58 Pontiac Bonneville convertible, turquoise and white, tri-power '58 Pontiac Bonneville ht -bronze/white '60 Cadillac ambulance in silver blue '62 Eldorado convertible red '57 Olds 88 convertible-silver blue and white. Incredible chrome detailing inside and out '69 Chevelle Malibu 4dr sedan. A gold plain Jane 307, low mileage, all original..neat survivor. '72 Riviera GS--reddish bronze w/ white interior, white vinyl top w/ sunroof. Gorgeous. Many Impalas and other full size Chevys, incl. a white '66 Biscayne 2dr sedan w/ 427. and a seemingly endless selection of Corvettes, Chevelles, Camaros, Novas,(incl. an orange '69 COPO), and a couple el Caminos.
  8. I remember Euclid and Terex from when I lived in NE Ohio in the late '80s-early '90s..drove by the plant in Hudson many times. Those miniature dealership signs are pretty cool.
  9. Imagine a climate where the winters would have the snow and cold of MN,ND or Buffalo with the summer heat of central AZ. Life would be one continuous hell of unspeakably brutal weather. Got to find the perfect year-round climate...I think I know where it is...
  10. I'd like to see this thread ran through that software that makes an animated video from a script.

    SPORTY

The doors and cab appear to be from the '73-87 generation. The front and bed look very Ford-ish. SA has had some very strange local variations of pickups..of this truck, they made a 2dr extended cab and 4dr version, both w/ integral beds. Ford did strange trucks in SA also.. the '67-style F-series pickup was made into the '90s, updated w/ rectangular headlights..one is seen in the recent movie 'The Expendables'.
  12. Another sunny 70 degree day here, blue skies. Went to the Russo & Steele auction. Muscle car overload...saw dozens of Mopies (Challengers, Cudas, GTXes, Road Runners, Chargers, etc), dozens of Chevys (Chevelles, Novas, Impalas, 1st gen Camaros by the truck load, etc). Some standouts from the GM side were the unrestored '64 Pontiac Parisienne Sport coupe, black '68 el Camino Malibu (I newer knew Malibu was a trim level on the el Camino), a '66 427 Biscayne 2dr sedan, several clean '61-64 Impalas...a '65 427 Ford Custom 2dr and '66 427 Ford Custom 2dr...those stripper 2dr sedans are so cool. Probably a couple dozen '69-70 Mach 1s. A couple '71 Boss 351s. a pale blue '70 Boss 429...
  13. Nice 70 degree winter afternoon here... .skipped B-J and went to the Gooding & Company auction--some incredible '50s-60s European cars (a stunning Fiat 8V, a couple Aston Martins, Ferraris, a couple Mercedes), a couple '30s Packards and Rolls Royces, a Shelby GT350R (raced by Pedro Rodriguez), a beautiful '48 Caddy convertible, '57 Olds 98 convertible (incredible chrome trim on the doors), '58 Pontiac Bonneville conv w/ tri-power, a couple Porsche 356s, a unrestored Tucker, a Maserati MC12, a Pantera, a Ferrari Daytona Spyder, etc. A nice relaxed small event. Afterwards went to the Scottsdale Pavillions cruise in--huge--all sorts of cars from '32 Ford hot rods to suede '50s cars to oodles of muscle cars and '50-60s big cars and lots of Mopies..quite a variety of cars showed up..first time I've been to that..a lot of fun...then dinner in Old Town Scottsdale at the Grapevine (nice to be able to sit out on a rooftop deck and eat dinner in January. Going to try and go to Russo & Steele tomorrow.
  14. I wonder how many years out, though the 6th gen is...3-5?
  15. I guess the sales just aren't strong enough to support coupes anymore beyond performance and luxury niches. Compact, midsize and full size 2dr versions of sedans are pretty much all gone. The mainstream 'personal luxury' coupe niche is gone w/ the demise of the Monte Carlo and Solara. Other than the Wrangler, 2dr SUVs are gone. Sad.
  16. As far as the design, I think one negative common to both the Taurus and MKS is that they are too tall below the beltline...because of the height, they end up looking narrow when viewed end-on. They would probably look better with about 3-4 inches or so taken out vertically below the beltline...also, the decklids are too short, a problem w/ many designs today. I do like the interiors of both cars, the Taurus dash design more so, I think.
  17. Pretty much anywhere in the Phoenix metro area, though I find central and north/northeast parts of the city and the eastern/northern/south eastern suburbs nicer than the westside. Can't speak for Tucson. The rest of the state is very rural. But I'm the wrong person, since I'm on my way out of here...deeply disenchanted w/ AZ for many reasons, incl. the summer weather. Nearly 5 months of triple digit heat sucks, even if it is a 'dry heat'.
  18. Weather is pretty predictable here currently. 70s and sunny, 40s at night. Good weather for the car auction week.
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. Pretty cool..
  21. Nice...I like the alternate grille w/ the body color elements..
  22. Oh noesss!!! Won't someone think of the childern!!!
  23. Hmmm...I suspect that would constitute in interstate trafficking of a controlled item. Probably illegal to import contraband gas cans into Pa.
  24. I wonder what the Tea Party thinks about this issue? Or maybe Camino can call into the Glenn Beck show and raise it as an issue...
  25. A great interior...color makes such a difference...on any of those mainstream interiors, they look 1000 times better with some color other than gray and some tasteful plood.
