  1. Saw a clean yellow '79 Toronado today, black 1/4 vinyl top.
  2. When I've done road trips, I try and stop every 2 hrs or 100 miles for a bio break, a walk, etc. I like to stop for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I stick to the speed limit or a 5 miles over at most. My longest day was a drive from Reno, NV to Denver, Co in a rental '04 Impala on I-80 and I-25, about 1100 miles and 16 hrs. Long day. I usually try and avoid driving more than 8-10 hrs in a day, stop at a motel for the night. I've done the Denver-Phoenix drive many times, about 800 miles...I've done it in one stretch, but usually start out from either end in the late afternoon, drive till it gets dark, stop for the night then all day the 2nd day.
  3. Today....lots of interesting oldies in Friday light traffic. A long bed, small rear window '67 Chevy pickup w/ 'CST' cab badging, white bumpers, painted what appeared to be '68 Camaro Mullsanne Blue. Clean. A yellow '71-72 short bed Chevy pickup w/ large chrome wheels. A car hauler w/ 3 '70s survivors...in original, worn but restorable shape--a black '73-74 Cuda w/ the sugar scoop hood, a dark blue w/ white top '73-74 Challenger, and a blue base Firebird of the same vintage..interesting. A sharp white w/ gold stripe '73 Cutlass 442. A rat rod style Model A tudor w/ open hood sides parked on a freeway breakdown lane. Satin black, red wire wheels, whitewall tires. A late model interesting car was a bright red C5 Z06..
  4. Speaking of rentals, I have a rental pickup (F150 probably) from U-Haul for tommorow, need to move some furniture from the house to the storage unit as my sister wants to redecorate the living room..
  5. Anyone doing anything fun this holiday weekend? For the first time in years, I'm not traveling..staying home to catch up on sleep, pool time, and watch some racing (Indy 500, Turkish GP). Going to be taking a few long weekend trips this summer, but not on holiday weekends....first up is a weekend in Del Mar (San Diego) in mid June.
  6. Got my new Dell Studio 16 laptop a couple days ago...has Win 7 Pro (64bit)...it's pretty sweet.
  7. liquid
  8. Prove It All Night (live)-Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
  9. I got 41/42, was stuck on the Holden logo. I was slowed down because I had to keep scrolling down to see the bottom two rows then scroll up to type in..
  10. Yes, I love having a pool...couldn't imagine not having one here...in other parts of the country, I'd be ok w/o out one. The lack of garage space and no basement are big turn offs where I am now. I need a finished basement to build a proper home theatre and hobby room.
  11. Depends on the house...the attached garages I've seen on many modern houses swallow 2 full size SUVs and a 3rd car easily, with plenty of room to open the doors. I'm partial to modern suburban houses w/ 3 car garages, what I want in my next house (4 car garage if I can swing it).
  12. Typo...I meant overheated cruise control module..I saw on Dateline NBC or one of those shows...the problem had to do with hot brake fluid igniting the hot cruise control module. Here's the description I found in one article: Ford found that brake fluid could leak through the cruise deactivation switch into the cruise system's electrical components and cause corrosion. Corrosion can cause a short and keep the cruise control from working, but in some cases it can lead to a higher flow of current that can overheat and cause a fire at the switch.
  13. I wouldn't want a detached garage...it sucks trying to get groceries, etc from a car to the house in nasty weather..it's nice to be able to get in and out of the vehicle in a dry environment and go straight in the house. 14. IIRC, the cruise control issue also involved the brake master cylinder, with hot brake fluid mixing with cruise control fluid and starting fires..
  15. I assume the price is low because it's a base model (or an 'S').. It's not a 442..
  16. I think they are now legal in AZ, which is amazing considering how dry much of this state is. I'll probably just go to the fireworks show downtown again this year, if I'm in town. A few years ago, I had the annual tradition of gathering w/ some friends in a Denver suburb and playing w/ small fireworks in a cul-de-sac before walking to a nearby park on a hill where we could see the large shows from several suburbs. Good times.
  17. Wow..that is clean. Beautiful year for the Cutlass.
  18. What an idiot state. AZ will probably do the same thing. Damn RSRs.
  19. I remember that from Top Gear, I think. One truly unique semi-exotic car I love is the Ariel Atom...I'd love to have one and a month of June or September days on Ohio backroads...strange to look at, but so pure in it's purpose. It would be a joy to drive, I think. Put on a helmet, a driver's suit, a Camelback full of water, and head for the hills...
  20. In the uber-expensive car world my favorite designs are the current Aston Martin range...looking forward to see the Rapide in person. Looking forward to seeing the 458Italia as well...I'll probably have the Fujimi 1:24th scale kit before I see the 1:1
  21. That car is clean..looks like just surface rust, and the interior is very clean...
  22. Lots of exciting stuff still made, Dodgefan named many of them that I like. Saw a gorgeous black Challenger R/T today, with silver R/T stripes on the fenders and hood, hood pins, chrome wheels...love the styling of that car.
  23. Nice..I grew up with those..my folks had 3 (my Mom still has them)...a '67 289, a '68 302, and a '68 390 XR-7. The '68 302 is silver blue, blue interior, 60k original miles, 2nd owner, all original. Manual steering, manual brakes, 3spd manual transmission. Scary as hell to drive like that. The '67 is original owner, silver green, 140k miles. I saw a '68 Cougar for sale today, with chrome 22 Dork wheels, painted lavender w/ a white vinyl top.
  24. That's one of those concepts I truly find hard to wrap my mind around...since I have always associated conservatism w/ intolerance, bigotry, homophobia, etc. Have to separate fiscal from social conservatism. I have stereotypical misconceptions, no doubt, but based in truth on various social conservatives I've met over the years...
  25. Not to mention Buick hasn't had a 2dr anything in over a decade. Coupe and convertible versions of the new Regal could be quite nice..
