  1. I'd hardly call the Corolla owners I know 'stupid', they tend to be very practical but frugal people... I know people w/ 6 figure incomes that drive Corollas. They just aren't car enthusiasts, that's all. Nothing wrong with that. Some of the sharpest techies I've worked with over the years drive Corollas, Civics, Camrys, and Accords.
  2. I think it's part of his persecution complex schtick.. it gets old.
  3. I wonder if Alpha will ever see the light of day, though? I assume whatever is left of GM will ax it to focus on FWD..
  4. An outrageous # in the US, something like 25k a year...no idea what the worldwide # is. It's huge.
  5. Yes. Illegal immigration is a different problem. Don't know what the answer is to that one. The problem is that the economy is now dependent on having a permanent underclass to do the low pay sh*t jobs, I'm afraid.
  6. Well, AZ is full of them, and many of them are unsanitary, which is how the swine flu has spread.
  7. Yes, just purely functional A-B transport modules. No character or personality at all. But, that's what it seems the public prefers today...
  8. I would think that an Epsy Dos based FWD vanilla sedan is much more likely..wasn't Alpha going to be a compact car platform?? I assume Alpha will be cancelled sooner or later anyway.
  9. Haven't ridden in one of the newer ones. I have a friend w/ a '93 and a couple others w/ 2000 vintage or so. Best memory was going out to lunch, 4 people in an '00, and myself and another guy that were riding in the back having to get out so the car would clear a parking lot speed bump.. One guy I worked w/ for years drove a '99 Corolla, but he recently stepped up to an ES350.
  10. Yeah, I was thinking Greyhound also...my sister used them several times a few years ago to ship some furniture pieces. Probably cheaper than truck freight shipping. I don't know what the size/weight limits are.
  11. Could always send GM a tweet....GM has several feeds on Twitter. I haven't 'written' a 'letter' to anyone in probably a decade. I'm afraid too many years of using computers and email have reduced my handwriting to an unreadable scrawl..
  12. Don't see them out here either...I've pretty much only seen them at car shows over the last 15 years..they seem to be pretty scarce out and about anywhere. I think I prefer the '71-72 shape over the '69-72 because of the sculpturing..love the rear end and the front (though 4 lights would have been nicer than 2).
  13. My favorite GPs were the '69-72s...the big ones from '62-68 were pretty special also. The FWD models are best forgotten.
  14. That's my assumption, which is exactly how GM was from '97-'07 (Cadillac had the only RWD sedan(s) those years). GM will just have fewer FWD generics in the future than they have now. It's sad to lose Pontiac--the Solstice and G8 were two on the short list of memorable cars GM has today.
  15. I remember Ponch's Firebird blowing up in an episode also. IIRC, Ponch's car had a Formula hood w/ a T/A hood scoop added. I haven't seen ChiPs in 25 years, probably..it and Rockford Files were some of my favorite shows of childhood. A couple years ago, I got back into Rockford Files and have been collecting the seasons on DVD...I enjoy the '70s vintage So Cal scenery, clothes, cars, hair styles..
  16. Saw some Pontiac Excitement!!! today--a brand new, first ever G3 in bright yellow, a white '78 Phoenix 2dr, a gold '77-78 plain Firebird in decent shape (Jim Rockford?) and a goregous pale yellow '67 Catalina ht. Pontiac was car.
  17. Got the Jeep back, had the oil & filter changed and a new battery installed. Went to a model car show & swap meet, picked up a couple sweet restorable 49yr old AMT 1:25th scale models--both '60 Buick Invictas--a ht and a convertible.
  18. Agreed..those are the only models that are relevant. Chevy can cover the cheap FWD market.
  19. Rockin in the Free World, Pearl Jam and Neil Young
  20. The Jeep is at the shop this morning, oil change & filter and getting a new battery (old one was 4 1/2 yrs old, but in AZ they normally last 2 years or so at most). Dropped it off and walked home (only a mile)...nice day so far. Going to go get a car wash later. Going to take it easy today, maybe go to a model car show and swap meet this afternoon.
  21. Ah, forgot it was a Buick thread..they just don't have anything as interesting as Cadillac currently, I'm afraid..
  22. I'd love to have a CTS-v...but I'd be happy w/ a regular 3.2DI/manual one. The only nits I have w/ the V (besides being out of my price range) are the front fascia and limited interior color and trim choices.
  23. FYI--2008 entry lux US numbers, from Edmunds.com: - BMW continues to dominate the entry-level luxury sedan and coupe category with sales of 110,371 3 Series. No surprise there, but note the resurgence of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (up 13.8% to 72,471) and the continued solid performance of the Infiniti G35/37 (64,183). The Cadillac CTS is also hanging in there well at 58,774 while the rest of the pack is still struggling to break free from the 50,000 unit range (Lexus IS - 49,432; Acura TL - 46,766; Audi A4 - 40,656).
  24. If you haven't paid attention, the Accord, Civic, and Camry have been in the top 10 in car sales in the US for years... so obviously, the public like their product..
