  1. But even if it gets 25 mpg in US gallons, that's pretty good...I know V8s are capable of getting more than 25...my 21 yr old 5.0 Mustang gets over 25 highway...
  2. Good cupholder design is part of why the Japanese gained market share so much in the '80s, I think... one of the things I hate about driving my '87 Mustang or my sister's Mercs is the lack of cupholders. I want lighted, heated, chilled cupholders!! In Arizona, you don't leave the house w/o a bottle of water...and I have to have my coffee on the morning drive.

My coworkers with Priuses laugh when I refer to them as a 'Pious'...

Mmmm..rice. I think I may have a Thai curry w/ rice for dinner. Or chicken fried rice. Or some basmati rice with kebabs.
  5. GM....if they will be building the current Impala 'till 2012, then they will have the supply..

It's been done...there was one on Autoblog a few months ago. Enjoy.. Prius convertible

Sweet...I have to get back there and visit my Mom and brother before winter....and take the 5.0 out on some of my favorite roads in Tuscarawas, Holmes, Carroll, Guernsey counties....RT39, RT800, RT541, etc...

I've seen pics of that Caprice convertible..it was very cool. Also in '66, Ford sold some very cool 4dr ht LTD limosuines, maybe 1/2 dozen were built by Hess & Eisenhardt or another coach builder...I'd love to see one of those in person..

I've been thinking about an '05 and up Mustang GT convertible....I'm looking forward to seeing how the '10 restyle looks, and how the Camaro convertible looks in person. Either of those would be a great 40th birthday gift to myself, to enjoy on the Colorado or Ohio backroads... I deeply miss driving the twisty backroads of Eastern Ohio in my 5.0.

Product liability is a bitch. That's why they crush 'em, to keep the lawyers happy.

Yeah, no matter how much cash you pour into a Civic, it's still a Civic...I've never been into the hop up or hot rod scene...but I know that a lot of 20 somethings in the '90s poured tons of cash into hopping up 5.0 Mustangs... I kept my Mustang GT bone stock, I didn't have the time or inclination to modify it...I was too busy with college and grad school through '97...

The car I saw was a stretched FWD Electra, though, which was what was so unusual about it. I've seen a 6dr RWD early '80s Le Sabre before..

    Yeah, reality bites.

Well, the kiddies hop up '92 Civics because that is what is readily available. In the real world, there aren't any '79 Sunbirds..I can't remember how many years it's been since I've seen such an animal. The Civic is to the younger generation what the 5.0 Mustang was to my generation.
  15. Well, they got the right ingredients..RWD, V8, IRS, manual transmission coming...what's not to love?
  16. Robert Hall replied to Camino LS6's topic in The Lounge
How about converting RWD to FWD? That would be a bold move..... imagine....converting a 4th gen Camaro to be a FWD turbo 4! (No more insane than some of the other ideas here.. )
  17. I like that Pacific Slate blue...nice and subtle. The Camaro would good in that color, IMHO.
  18. No...the people I know with Priuses will probably trade them before they get that many miles. I'm sure they will need replacement eventually.. Just being realistic...Ford, GM, Mopar don't have anything in the US currently that gets Prius mileage..simple fact. And it's sad, because I know that they have diesels in Europe that can get that kind of mileage, but the Big 3 spent the last few years pissing away money on stupid 5000-6000lb trucks and SUVs that could barely get 16 mpg, let alone 20...they used to have cars that could get good mileage--heck, my Ford Escort diesel got over 50--20+ years ago! To think we would stay at $2/gallon gas indefinitely was very short-sighted. I'd love to see the Detroit 3 lead for once, instead of always being behind the curve...
  19. Unfortunately, all I've seen of it is a grainy B&W photo...apparently, it was like a peachy color w/ white top. The '58 Merc 4dr ht they replaced it with was copper and white two-tone. That was replaced w/ a white '63 Ford Fairlane wagon, which was replaced with a '65 Hino Contessa (when they lived in Guam), then a '67 LTD 4dr ht in Hawaii, then when they came back to Ohio a '67 Cougar, '69 Mustang, '69 Marquis 4dr ht, then a '72 Marquis 4dr HT, then a series of Lincolns--'75, '79, '82, '85, '90, '96. The '67 Cougar is my Mom's barn..pretty rusty, though the two '68s they later bought are in show condition, as is the '69 Mustang. They also had a '73 Mustang Grande, '85 Mustang GT, and a '90 LX 5.0. My Mom mostly drove the Mustangs and Cougars, my Dad liked his Lincolns with the occasional small car for a tow car (hooked on the back of the Winnebago for vacations).
  20. My dad did dabble in GMs a few times over the years... had a '56 Bel Air 4dr ht back in '56, long before my time...I think that replaced a '54 Ford and then was replaced with a '58 Mercury Monterey 4dr ht. Then in the '70s, he had a '76 Vega 2dr sedan for a few years as a runabout (though he also had a '75 then a '79 Town Car at the same time). In the '80s, he briefly had an '81 Chevette Scooter as a tow car (said it was the worst car he ever owned, traded it on the '84 Ford Escort diesel that later became my first car). He was mostly always a Ford, Mercury and Lincoln guy. Lots of big Fords, Mercurys, then Lincolns from '75 through '96. Plenty of Mustangs and Cougars also. Strangely, even though my folks had the 150 acre place in Ohio, only 2 pickup trucks--a '79 Dodge 4x4 (awful vehicle, learned to drive in it) and later, a '94 Ranger (replaced with a '98 Explorer). My older brother, on the other hand, owned lots of GMs over the years... '58 Chevy Biscayne, '65 GTO, '68 Camaro SS 396, '75 Firebird Formula 400, '84 Chevy S10, '94 Chevy S10...
  21. In the real world, a lot of people buy new cars...$25k is cheap for a new car. Driving old cars with high mileage isn't a realistic option for most people. And I've never known anyone that had to replace batteries on a Prius, that's a myth.
  22. I think the Prius gets better than 21 mpg... face it, GM has nothing on the market in the US that comes close to the Prius mileage. People I know with Priuses say they are getting 40-45 or better. Not the advertised 60, but still quite good for a car that can haul 4-5 people.
  23. Curious names for the colors...'Stryker' makes me think of a Stryker saw (head saw).
  24. Robert Hall replied to Camino LS6's topic in The Lounge
I still wonder about the backstory on a phantom I used to see in Ohio...it was a gray '85-86 Buick Electra 4dr stretch--a mild stretch, maybe 4 inches....thicker C-pillars and longer rear doors. Since Ohio used to be home of many professional car makers (Flxbl, S&S, I think were in Ohio) maybe it was built by one of them..
