CNN / Money rips ASTRA
I remember that type of glovebox door..not very useful as a cupholder, unless you drill it out so the cups can be held securely..

Bro's Poll: What Main Saturn Vehicle Should Be Discontinued/Replaced?
If anything, I'd add some models to Saturn...like the Astra estate and Astra Twin Top.. maybe the Corsa, Meriva and Zafira also.

Couldn't have gotten corporate sponsorship with that, though..

CNN / Money rips ASTRA
I've never had an issue w/ that arrangement in my Jeep, but it's an automatic, so I don't shift much (and the armrest is high relative to the cupholders). I can't stand the flimsy pop-out ones that some cars have that block the HVAC or radio controls when in use...

Mahrindra Appalachian coming to US in '09, diesel hybrid in '10.
The logo is kinda Oldsish..it's a stylized M in a loop... Mahindra Worldwide Mahindra is in the US currently w/ tractors, they have a big red 'M' logo: Mahindra USA Maybe they can sell the trucks through the tractor dealers, pitch them to farmers. My local TV stations have been running Mahindra tractor ads for a while, though the nearest dealers are in Lanred, Ks (328 miles) and Albuquerque, NM (348 miles).

It seems like they are trying currently to maintain Pontiac on the cheap.... a coupe would require $$$$ to develop one, since the G8 sedan and ute are based on existing Oz models. Pontiac definitely needs coupes....their performance history was built on coupes (Pontiac performance sedans being a recent thing)...

How was the cupholder design in the Ion? My preferred design are two fixed cupholders behind the shifter ahead of the armrest..

The cupholder design does seem poor though....behind the armrest? Awkward.

Why Detroit Loses Money
There is an element of that..look at the bozos that use the 'Jap' epithet in their posts or fly a confederate flag (widely considered a symbol of southern racism). That's where the Republican party draws a lot of it's support, IMHO...it's the white Christian intolerance party...

CIAS '08: Dodge Challenger
I had to look out the window at work today to remember where the washer nozzles are on my Jeep...on the cowl, behind the hood. The rear one is at the top of the hatch.

Mahrindra Appalachian coming to US in '09, diesel hybrid in '10.
As seen on Autoblog.. ndian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. will shake up the U.S. truck market next year when it introduces a new midsize pickup called the Appalachian sporting a 2.2L four-cylinder diesel engine producing around 150 horsepower and 300 pound feet of torque. Speaking with Mike Levine from Pickuptruck.com, John Perez, the CEO of Atlanta-based importer Global Vehicles U.S.A. that's aiding Mahindra's entry into the U.S. market, revealed that the truck will deliver 30 to 35 miles per gallon and cost in the mid-$20,000 range. It will be paired with a six-speed automatic that's controlled via a floor-mounted shifter or paddle shifters(!), have a class-leading payload of 2,600 lbs. and feature a 60,000-mile, four year bumper-to-bumper warranty. If that's not enough to strike fear in domestic and import truck makers alike, Mahindra has also revealed plans to sell a diesel hybrid version of its pickup by 2010. If it happens, the diesel hybrid Appalachian will be, as far as we know, the only diesel hybrid on sale in the U.S. market and achieve fuel economy figures even higher than its diesel-only counterpart. Imagine a midsize pickup in the low-$30,000 price range capable of 40+ mpg. The Appalachian has yet to go through U.S. certification for emissions and safety, but the company is spending $80 million to ensure its truck passes with no issues. After that, production will begin in India on March 15, 2009, but the trucks will finish assembly at a plant in Ohio to avoid high import taxes. After that, customers can visit a 300-strong dealer network with 24 standalone dealerships, one of which is already under construction. Autoblog article on Mahindra Appalachian

I wonder if Toyota has considered the Crown for the US market to replace the Avalon.

I guess the kiddies don't like rolling boxes as much as Toyota thought they would.

Troubling article from Autoweek online
I have noticed that as well... I have a bit of sentimentality for the '80s (I'm 37), but by and large, I'm more interested in the here and now and the future, since that's where I live...I have no interest in overly immersing myself in the past (or in someone else's past, since the '60s is before my time). Part of that is due to being that I work in the tech industry where it's all about moving forward, new, new, new... too much sentimentality and living in the past is unhealthy, IMHO. I lived in the 'Rust Belt' also (Ohio Valley area, Pittsburgh and Cleveland area, then SE Michigan) and left over a decade ago... those areas seem to have been in perpetual decline for the last 30+ years, while the West has been booming and forward-looking..
