January Car Spotting Thread
This morning I saw a beige '74 or '75 Catalina 4dr w/ dog dish hubcaps..odd sight to see in the commute. Saw a sharp brown Enclave in the parking lot at work w/ a temp tag, someone had a Merry Xmas.

Toyota @ NAIAS: A-BAT concept truck
Robert Hall replied to Robert Hall's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)The shape of that era of Corolla kind of reminds me of the '70s Datsun 510..

Toyota @ NAIAS: A-BAT concept truck
Robert Hall replied to Robert Hall's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Heh-heh... I can't recall when Toyota had a decent overall design theme, other than dull. Though I do like the current Lexus design themes..

Thank goodness for TiVo...I've never seen this ad..but may have to look for it on YouTube.

Grand Prix Phase Out
Right...I'm sure Avis had plenty enough '07s to keep them going through this year.

Grand Prix Phase Out
I wonder if the last one went to or will go to Avis?

Lutz: GM to rethink product plans if 35 mpg CAFE passes
True enough..I remember driving in the late '80s in my '84 Escort diesel..52 hp, 0-60 in about 18 seconds. And 55mpg at 55 mph, around 45mpg around town. What's amazing is there is nothing in the US today that gets mileage anywhere close to that, and it was a solid little car, not a sh*tbox like the Geo Metros..

Lutz: GM to rethink product plans if 35 mpg CAFE passes
Nahh, I'm just a bit of an elitist..

Lutz: GM to rethink product plans if 35 mpg CAFE passes
They world is overpopulated the way it is now...the masses shouldn't be allowed to breed indiscriminately, IMHO.

Head-on collision between Datsun & BMW...
You are a brave man...I couldn't imagine have a daily driver older than 10-15 yrs old (my Jeep is 7 now)..I just don't want to deal with the headaches (and lack of features) of old cars. My sister has gone the 'all old' route, she sold her '04 Liberty yesterday, keeping the '84 500SEL (175k miles) and '92 300CE (120k miles), but since she's a traveling consultant, she's only home 3 days a week at most, so no daily commute. Those cars have been money pits, though, IMHO.

New GM Additions for 2009
True...but the Acadia and Enclave are significantly differentiated, at least in interior and exterior design.....but if the Acadia and Outlook were at the same dealer..

Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
Good sentiment and all, but probably 80% or more Impala buyers today don't know or couldn't care less about the name history...it wouldn't matter if it was named 'Lumina' or 'Generica' (which would have been a great name for it) to Avis and most of buyers of the current W-body model.

4-door accounts for 82% of total Wrangler production
True, but those are sports cars. With an SUV, a 4dr just makes more sense (more 'U').

Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
Well, with the GP gone after '08, Avis' demand for the Impala and LaCrosse will go up.. but the next LaCrosse is going to be smaller than the current one and Malibu-sized, isn't it? Also, the Impala does have a share of the police car market...if it were rear drive and aggro like the Charger, maybe that share would go up..who knows?

I'm so angry that I can't see straight
I reached the point long ago where I'm 'comfortably numb' and really don't care anymore. I vote, I pay my taxes, and focus on improving myself and my career and don't worry about all the stuff that's wrong out there..

Were Sunfires ever sold outside of America?
Not that I'm aware of...I do know the Alero was sold as a Chevy Alero in some markets. On my trips across the pond, I've seen a lot of US cars that are/have been sold in the Europe--plenty of Grand Cherokees (almost always in dark blue like mine), Cherokees, Explorers, Neons, 300s, Sebring convertibles, Voyagers, and less common models like Tahoes, Trailblazers, Chrysler Saratogas ('90s Dodge Spirit variation) and Chrysler GS (early '90s Dodge Daytonas).. I've seen a number of cars that had to be personal imports, like the red '87 Mustang GT I saw in Bath, England; several Lincoln Town Cars and Navigators in London, and a sweet dark blue '90s Buick Roadmaster I saw in Positano, Italy (local mafioso?).

New GM Additions for 2009
I'm wondering if the H3 'Pickup' is going to be like the concept (2dr with longish bed) or the same short-bed 4dr nonsense as the H2 SUT..

New GM Additions for 2009
Seems like a 2 row Lambda would be redundant with the Equinox..

Toyota @ NAIAS: A-BAT concept truck
Robert Hall replied to Robert Hall's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)The 'negative' image I was referring to is that I usually associate pickups with conservatives and right-wingers...demographics I wouldn't want to be associated with. (I've got my biases, I'll admit..

New Chevrolet Malibu Careens Out of Gate
I saw five lined up on the front row of a Chevy dealer in Phoenix last week, but other than that, I have yet to see one on the road around Phoenix or Denver.

Nesbitt: "Making engineering and design work together"
Definitely starting earlier is better...just surprised they have anything that far along at this point (since the current versions just came out).

Toyota @ NAIAS: A-BAT concept truck
Robert Hall replied to Robert Hall's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Yes... I have no need for the obesity, poor driving characteristics, and negative image of a regular truck, but something like that would be useful for me for the occasional Home Depot/Best Buy/etc trip and weekend stuff (mountain bike, skis, etc).. But then again, if I can't get it into my Jeep now, I have it delivered.
