What I'm saying is that when Fritz (or whoever made the comment) made the rebadging remark about the G8 he meant that rebadging something from Pontiac to Chevy (2 brands sold in the same market) would not be acceptable. Rebadging an Opel would/could be acceptable simply because Opel is not sold in the US.

I can understand where the comment came from on that (was it Fritz Henderson? I don't recall), its a whole different context. The Opels are not and have not been sold in the US. The G8 was sold as a Pontiac, so calling it an Impala or Chevelle would fit the implied description of 'bad rebadge'.

They'll have to price it clearly above the Cruze, as the Regal will have to be priced clearly above the Malibu. I hope that in the grand scheme of things this means that the LaCrosse CX is history and that the LaCrosse range can move up a bit in price to give the other two models some breathing room...

Maybe they're trying to find a place to build the Renault-Samsung-based cars in the US? Funny how everyone (including me) was thinking the Saturn sale would be an ideal entry point into the US market for a Chinese or Indian OEM, and it turns out Renault (via Samsung) makes the smart move.

From reported figures, yes.... but how do you, I or anyone outside of GM's Finance staff know that? Those reported figures are the same that could include corporate overheads designed to move money into the US...

Bad experience happened to me today (roadside assistance related): spent some 5 to 6 hours on the phone w/ my insurance company to get a rental while the Mini is in the shop for a new clutch pump and shock absorbers. Apparently the rental was was not available 'because it's summer'... Sad fact is that coming across a f@#king idiot at retail / customer service can ruin the whole thing despite OEMs, brand managers, and so on, making serious efforts to deliver the goods.
