  1. No surprises on hearing that a vehicle has run a lot of miles on synthetic. However, I will say that even running an engine on dino juice as long as you keep the oil changed, then she'll run practically forever.
  2. Noise could be a wheel bearing/hub assembly going bad, easy way to check, jack up suspected side of car, grab tire, check for excessive movement of tire. If movement is in/out replace hub assembly, if movement is top/bottom, check lower ball joint or upper strut mount, if movemet is front/back (toe in, toe out), check outter tie rod ends.
  3. Cory, congrats on passing man!
  4. I'd have to say that I wouldn't mind having a Grand Cherokee sometimes, but at the same time, I really have no use for one, they're a little too small for what I really need and if I want to go bounce it off trees, or crawl through mud a Wrangler or a K-5 Blazer would do the job much better in my book. Now I will admit that the new 4-door Wranglers are very nice.
  5. Both companies have been around for a while, now what I will say is that Valvoline has a better conventional oil, but Mobil 1 will beat the pants off Valvoline synthetic all day long.
  6. YJ, no there isn't a gasket there, sometimes a master cylinder will have that semi-covers and seals the area between the master cylinder and the booster, but most of the time, its just a straight bolt-up application.
  7. I'll agree with you on that one ricer, its kinda funny that when you've got one that's lesbian and hot, she normally always picks one that looks well....less than appealing.
  8. I'm kinda of the mindset, where you decide to stick your genetailia (sp?) is completely your business, its when you go forcing it on me that gives me a problem...
  9. Well, from a southerner's point of view race down here is still an issue. I don't really give a rats ass what color you are, just as long as you are a good person. If you don't have at least some home training (lets face it a number of people don't) then I choose not to associate with you, while that doesn't make me racist, I know it makes me prejudice, which everyone is prejudice to a certain extent no matter what. Race is something that everyone is always going to bring up when they feel they've been wronged, the only downside is that there are enough bleeding hearts and ambulance chasers out there that will latch onto them and give them another voice to be heard that makes it bad for everyday joes like y'all and I. If we could take out those that always call foul even when there isn't one, then it might at least quiet problems such as what you were talking about down a good bit. Then again, I have a simple way of viewing things, and believe me its not PC.
  10. Yeah, I hate to say it but Chrysler and automatic transmission should not be mentioned in the same sentence.
  11. Here's the fleet's numbers 2005 Cobalt: 22 (all city) 2.2L Ecotec 2001 Impala: 25 (all city) 3.8L V6 1976 C-10: 8 (no matter what I'm doing, it gets 8, so range is ALWAYS easy to compute, 8mpg, 21 gallon tank, you do the math) 350 punched .040 over 2003 Alero: 22 (mixed driving) 2.2 Ecotec 1997 Wrangler: 18 (mixed) 2.5 I-4 1992 C1500: 24 (mostly highway) TBI 4.3 V6 2003 S10 crew cab: 26 (mixed) MFI 4.3 V6 1989 S10 Blazer: 24 (mixed) TBI 4.3 V6 1983 C20: 12 (mixed) 4bbl 350cid V8 1966 International Loadstar 1600: 5 (whaddaya expect, its a 2-ton truck with a dump body) 2bbl 304 V8
  12. The 4.0 I-6 will probably last longer than most engines produced today. ANY I-6 is a naturally strong and long-running motor simply because 9 times outta 10 they're built tougher than a safe vault. The only fault of them is that they're so tall, that's why pretty much everyone has moved away from them. Go back to the 70s and 80s when there were lots of I-6s, GM had the 250 and 292s, Ford had the 300, and DCX had the 225 (technically a slant 6, but close enough) and you basically couldn't kill any of them.
  13. Yeah, since i'm basically going to keep mine until its paid for and then get a bike for primary transportation, its easy for me to go by the trip odometer than chase the wires from the sending unit to the gauge cluster, to all the various grounds and yadda yadda yadda. Now once I get the bike and get it paid off, I'll probably go in and buy another piece of four-wheeled transportation, THEN I'll fix all that stuff (and the crack in the windshield, and just all the little minor things that'll get me a better trade value, not that I'll really care at that point)
  14. I know what I'd put in my hangar if I had the cash and time. I'd put a C-130 in there, so's I could haul all my goodies around in it (and land in short, unimproved airstrips, and do airdrops, and do medivac, and haul cargo for a living, and well, do all the things that a C-130 has been doing since it entered service with the USAF -and almost any/every other air force in the world- for over 50 years). Oh yeah, and I'd have a Piper or three in there for short, personal hops. As far as war birds, I'd have to have two favorite WWII aircraft, the P-47 Thunderbolt, and a P-38 Lightning. Other than that I'd really, really, really really really, like an F-15, but I know that won't happen for at least 40 years...
  15. None of this honestly surprises me....at all
  16. like you said dave, huh? Yeah, dealership life, actually we're pretty good with one another. At least we can all goof off with one another and we're actually getting where we can really turn some cars out pretty quick (unfortunately the particular dealership that I'm at has a pretty cruddy reputation for its service department), so I'm hoping that we're going to be able to turn it around.
  17. I'll just recommend my normal answer for the 2.7: open hood, pull pin on hand grenade, insert, run like hell!
  18. Just in the last 5 years engines have gotten WAY tighter on tolerances and oils have been getting better and better for the past 10 years easily. All the new DCX stuff (05-ish and newer) are using 5W20 oil in their crankcases, I wouldn't be surprised if soon enough we'll start seeing a lot of cars coming with stuff like 0W20 in them from the factory
  19. You're pretty saying the same thing that I would tell you. My Impala's fuel gauge no longer reads correctly (it'll be full for about a week, then suddenly be empty), so I just go by the trip odometer. I'd say that either the rheostat (sp?) that allows the fuel tank sending unit to let the gauge work properly is getting old, OR you've got a ground problem, or two.
