  1. Cool, seems like I'm not the only Datsun fan on here. Infiniti makes a decent car... do a 5-speed swap. I'd have ton of respect for you if you did! I like how you also put BBS "DUBS" on the 2nd gen. Maxima in the 2nd photo!
  2. It's funny casue it's true! Now this past weekend I saw a 1997 Nissan 240SX notchback. That's pretty rare for a non-exotic. Still more common than my 1st en. Maxima 5-speed though. About a week ago I was checking out a 1985 Oldsmobile Eureka Long Door Hearse in Silver. Very cool by my standards. Only $1500 drives it away. I'm trying to convince XP to buy it! I also saw a few othe rare cars in the past year: 1969 Yenko Super Camaro (fathom green with 427) not one, not two but three 70s Citroens at a JY ready to be crushed! 1969 AMC AMX 1970s Lotus Europa 1984? Chrysler Imperial "Bustle back" 1960s Toyota Corona Sedan, get this: in the middle of NYC parked on the street! 1965? Bonneville Navy Ambulance by some long gone coachbuilder (in JY ) 1969 Mustang with the 429... mint at a carshow Pre-production ZR1 prototype (sleeper wiht the non-ZR1 styling) 1987 Ferrari F40 1980s Alfa Romeo sedan in dark blue 1982 Renault Gordini at the JY... it was a HT and canvas roll back roof! 1990s Porsche 928 (two in the past few weeks) THe MFA exhibit of Ralph Lauren's cars was amazing. Classic Ferraris, CLASSIC Bentleys (not the $h!ty new ones) & even a McLaren F1.
  3. Thanks for the great post. What a sexy B!tch!!! WMJ: You said it all buddy. I feel the exact same way.
  4. Every dealership I ever worked at I was the resident nerd & car guy. Saddly most car salesman are in it for the money not for the love of cars. GM esp. seems to have a high percentage of dealerships that just want to f#% people out of money and move on to the next guy and repeat. This is a sad state of affairs. I've heard things come out of my colegue's mouths that made me disgusted. A good portion of salesman are ignorant, a small portion are just stupid and a small portion of both are jerks. The ones I really learned to hate were the ones who hated GM product sold it anyway becuase they had no priunciple or decency to stand by their beleifs. It's all $$$$. Stuff like "Yes the Catera is FWD" "No, Chevy does not make a 5-speed Cavalier anymore... sorry" "The Silverado comes in AWD" "The Pontiac Vibe is just a Toyota Matrix with crappier GM mechanicals" "I just work here cause the pay is good I think GM cars suck" x 1,000,000,000
  5. Mini Cooper, Berlin Wall
  6. You're right to a large degree. HOWEVER, do you feel the marketplace is a level playing field for GM & Toyota? I think tey fight dirty, and I'd rahter not see GM stoop to their level but in the end I want GM to succed by any & all means neccersary. Like I said in another thread our fantasy lineup of Zeta cars will go a LONG way to help GM return to profitability.
  7. Cool. I like those little suckers though, half the time I buy the filtered ones but I think the straight up Al Capone Cognac are the best. Yes! I'd do it if the car was worth selling your soul for. Hell for some cars I'd do a 50 year car loan if it was possible. I think these three are in that category.
  8. Yes... that's a good point and other things too. I can honestly say C&G has one of the best no-nonsense layouts of all the dozens of forums I've seen. But in the end it's the people that make a differance. There's no hazing and "noobies suck" bull$h! on this site. We welcome our new members instead of acting like @$$holes towards anyone who has a post count of less than 1500. I'm so glad that I have an outlet like C&G because a lot of other sites are chock full of morons. I've had my beef wiht a few of you but for the most part do not hold a grudge and we all get along pretty well, despite our differances. And trust me, even the anti- Toyota & Honda stuff we have on here is mild in comparison to some of te jerks on other forums. I mean you'd think import based car forums would be of open minded people and interesting individuals but on a few there's more stupid fu#$sticks than you can shake a stick at. 910Bluebird is pretty cool but they're based in Australia so maybe that's the diff. Either way I'm looking forward to another roadtrip this summer where I cn meet up wiht a few of you. If I get a enough interest I'd love to do a car meet somewhere in New England. A BBQ or wahtever. Anyone up for something like that this summer?
  9. Will it be an Avalon or a LS Snore-hundred?
  10. I used to abuse my first car this way... funny thing is it was a 1994 Sunbird SE coupe. I also used to rally race it down dirt roads. As far as ANY car making it to 200,000miles I guess that's true. It just so happens if that car is a KIA it will need a little more maintenance like say, a new transmission every 25,000 miles or so. I think to a lesser degree this is also true for Tauruses, Winstars, Escorts, Cravans, Intrepids, & pretty much any Mitsubishi ever made with an A.O.D.
  11. I love GM but I think they did F*** up in this case... as well as XPs car I know of a few other people who have had V6 (3800, 3100, 3400) intake problems. Too bad, GM does NOT need bad PR right now, they get plenty already.
  12. Speaking of MCE I think the Malibu needs anohter. I liked it better before now it just looks Chinese from some angles. That car needs to get some Cobalt DNA in terms of styling.
  13. Well... the new Camry is a lot less ugly and bland than the old one, and I hate Toyota but I have to admit those ads for the Camry are just perfect for the demographic they're going after... bland, soul- less idiots will always buy Camrys but if they get some wannabe car enthusiasts then they'll keep riding their wave of Bull$h! & biased car-rag propaganda even further to the top. I do hope Toyota falls off their high horse and breaks their neck in the process... hey it happened to Superman why not them. Never say never I just hope it's not too late.
  14. Canadians are cool! This guy has a 1st gen. Maxima like myself AND a classic 1970? 510. Very good pair of Datsuns.
  15. Sorry to hear that... perhaps you'll like the GTO
  16. This guy understands trucks like Mike Tyson understands Nuclear Physics. I'd love to throw a piece of Bolognia on the hood of his car... probably a Prius or xB.
  17. I like the VQ's exhaust note... it's fart can Hondas & Acuras that irritate me 99% of the time. They're esp. ass-tastic when the car is stock & natrually aspired. Turbo whine & blow off valves help though.
  18. True... esp. in a FWD car a SUpercharged V6 makes more sense packaging wise and in terms or weight distribution, BUT I am one of those snobs that likes the smoothness of an inline six or V8 better. Truth be told the only V6 I've ever been crazy about is the Buick 3800. (any vintage or series) The Nissan 3.5, Chrysler 3.5 , GM 4.3 & 3.1/3.4 are all good but not great. They still leave me wishing for more. Not just power but refinement & smoothness.
  19. WMJ: Pretty much. I did not enjoy the fact that our repairs ate away the guy's comissions but fair is fair. I payed asking price and I got a warranty. You loose some you win some. They probably made $2000 or so on the car, if not $3000. In any case they are certainly not in the red becasue of those repairs. Even if I had to pay for that crap out of pocket I'd still be happy with the car. It's much more satisfying to drive than the FWD STS. I used ot be all about 0-60 times and 1/4 times... now I can say that I do miss the extra power of the North* but I'm much happier wiht my Non-Caddy-4100 mated to a RWD car.
  20. 25% of vehicles sold here are eqiped with a V8?! Big deal. That number could double if DOD becomes standard issue. Nothing like a V8, I know some people are anti-V8 but let's face it, they're mostly pu$$ys & little old ladys afraid of the excessive power.
  21. A story, parable if you will: In all the decades that Lincoln has been playing 2nd fiddle to Cadillac they have not even cmoe close to beating them in sales... except for ONE year. 1997. Why? Because Caddy decided that perhaps they didn't need an SUV after all & the new Navigator was the bell of the ball. At one point every single one of the players on the Boston Celtics had a Navigator. It was the newest yuppie must have and it single handedly pushed Lincoln ahead of Caddy. Now that we have the more refined, better looking and higher quality Escalade the balance of power has been restored. --- True GM competitors to cars like the 300C, Charger, Magnum, Crown Vic, Mustang, Honda Element (minus the uglyness) Scions & even the WRX will bring attention and positive reviews to GM and then it will help sell even the bread & butter core products. In any case we're already on the road to recovery. The Cobalt, HHR, STS/CTS & every single one of the trucks from small to huge is a winning product. GM will recover and it will sell Pontiacs & Buicks for many years to come. If they don't it will not be for lack of trying. I criticise but it's out of love, not hate like a couple of the trolls on here. GM has to keep their eyes on the prize. The Kappa and sigma cars are a definite step in the right direction btu we need more a lot more. A new Camaro will be great but more importantly a true 300/Charger competetive Impala/Bonneville/Roadmaster will be the true sellers. Core product and lots of it, mixed w/ the excting niche products that are already in the works like the Solstice GXP & Camaro/GTO will be the 1-2 punch to Toyota's teeth that we need. And IF Toyota is No. 1 for a while... so what? Maybe that's exactly what we need... a Business professor of mine once told me there's a lot of strength in being No.2 in your respected market. I know I like the underdog in a lot of situations. Perhaps the No.1 spot for Toyota will be their downfall. Perhaps it will show their true colors and Greenpeace will stop sucking their prevebial d!@#$. Who knows. I don't so much care that GM is No.1 as much as I want a good lineup of V8 powered RWD cars: Camaro, GTO, Riviera for two doors & Impala/Caprice, G8/Bonneville & Park Ave/Roadmaster for the 4 doors. That right there will breathe more life into GM than the G6, Malibu & whole Saturn lineup combined. [/rant]
  22. Looks like your Over-Achivah & that poor Grand Prix SE will be partying soon in the great Automtive Palace in the sky. Why can't Dodge Rams hit Camrys & Tauruses instead of cars that have soul?
  23. They have them at most Wal*Marts, the o4 and Rev I've had since like 2001. They were in some weird Road&Track packaging, still Maisto just packaged in a bigger blister pack.
  24. The Blazer Silverado I just sold probably had 269,000. It was at least 169,000 esp. since the keys were just as worn as the ones on my 190K+ 1968 Camaro. I had 185K on the Fleetwood Brougham when I sold it with a plugged up heater core. Now that LT is swapping in a SBC it will probably hit the 1/2 million mark. My 1983 Firebird had very close to 200K but it was not all original, the Chevy crate 350 truck motor under the hood made it fairly non-stock. I've had a few other GM cars that approched 200K.
  25. Yes, exactly... plus at a better rate too. Since I was going on a roadtrip this past weekend with the Datsun & the STS is still at the Lowell dealership & unregistered while the Q45 was getting serviced at Infiniti of Nashua we rented a Chrysler 300 (3.5) from Sat. to Mon. I knew the 3.5 Mopars were pretty powerful but even I was pleasantly surprised. With the traction control off the car pulls almost like an LT1 B-body. I mean it's got torque, decnt HP and the ride was super comfortable. There's a few criticisms I had but nothing major. The Beetle-like super long dash that you can park a scion on top of is a bit silly, the trunklid is small and has no lip or any kind of hadle to pull it up with. But overall the car is awsome. The problem is a 3.5 Charger or 300 Limited are too much money. When you start off with a $27,000 MSRP it's pretty much impossible to stay in the $300s for a payment, even for six years.
