  1. This is what's called Servant Evangelism. One charitable deed, done joyfully, will do more to right the world than a thousand words of preaching.
  2. Hmm. A recall on cars from as far back as 1991? That's a bit far reaching, is it not?
  3. That's a great looking car for its size. So... Is this considered sub-sub-compact?
  4. The six-door Multipla is one of my favorite underexplored concepts, packaged into a terribly hideous package.
  5. It's long been touted that virtual violence can easily replace actual violence. Apparently, the mayor of Mexico City wants to see if that'll hold up. --- Mexico City (Mexico) The new mayor of Mexico City is offering criminals a free Xbox 360 for every handgun, and a free PC for higher caliber firearms such as assault rifles, that are handed into police in an amnesty, according to Reuters. The move is being trialled in one of the more dangerous neighborhoods in the city and will be extended elsewhere if it proves a success. Already 17 handguns have been handed in, with the ex-criminals walking away with an Xbox 360 with which to conduct crime and mayhem in a less destructive virtual environment. --- Source
  6. I agree on the engine. The "6%" increase in horsepower is unimpressive. The noted decrease in torque is downright disappointing. The grille's not great, but it could be worse. Love the interior details. The silver nav/HVAC is a welcome change from black. ...This coming from a guy who owns a car with a "silver" center stack.
  7. Hmm, true. Reg must be referring to the 2005/2006 model's wheel. The Cobalt Radio displays the clock separate from the other information in the display. I think the Black Tie does, also.
  8. I like the new grille. They should have put it on the 2005 model. I would have done something different for the lower fascia, though. That might be where dave is getting the Kia vibe from.
  9. Bored? Try to take a nap. If you've got nothing on your mind, you will likely pass out, or at least stare into space for a few hours. If you have something on your mind, explore it.
  10. I've found that I've neared the point of obsession when it comes to computer hardware research (and yet, I don't frequent any hardware forums like I frequent C&G). I read up on this stuff mostly as a hobby, but I'm sure when it comes time to upgrade the company PCs that my knowledge will come in handy.
  11. "closely guarded world concept" It's a concept. I won't speculate further, but there's a limit to how excited I can get over a concept car.
  12. My Acer laptop has served me well over the past two months of ownership... Though the built in web cam acts a bit funny. It's mounted above the screen and can be rotated to point in front of you rather than towards you. But when you point it forward when it's on, Windows plays the "device unplugged" sound and the camera stops working. So much for that feature...
  13. Cobalt was already posted, but other cars in my past and present... Seville... Achieva... Grand Prix... Incidentally, one of my old sigs contained these three vehicles...
  14. For $22k, 28/35 is pretty good. If those are 2008 numbers, even better. I just wish that regular models could get fuel economy like this. If only there were a N/A near-midsizer that would get 30 mpg city vs the new EPA testing standards.
  15. Mitsu badge, maybe. But a Honda badge on that grille would confuse the crap out of me.
  16. I put "as needed". I use speaker phone when sending / receiving a phone call, and I leave the phone in the Cobalt's door pull cubby, where it fits perfectly. Sometimes, though, if there's a lot of road noise, I can barely hear the speaker phone at max volume. I will hold the phone closer to my head in this scenario, but I will never, NEVER hold a phone to my ear. Even when I'm holding the phone, I am ready to toss it aside as an emergency reaction. Every so often I might receive a text message while driving. If I feel I can/should respond to it quickly and concisely while driving, I will do so. I will not take my eyes off the road for more than a half second at a time. I've memorized the letters pretty well at this point, so I don't need to watch what I'm typing necessarily. I do need to make sure T9 didn't put in a completely different word, though. And one more. Sometimes, if I'm feeling drowsy on a long stretch, and I don't have any music to blast, I will call someone so that I have someone to talk to. It the last option before pulling over to pass out.
  17. What, you mean to tell me Exxon/Mobil doesn't make money on diesel? Where does everyone suppose that diesel comes from? It's not an alternative to fossil fuels. It's just another type of fossil fuel. That said, I would welcome the option of having diesel engines available for purchase, considering their monstrous torque and fuel efficiency.
  18. So... What stops them from being forcibly taken over, exactly? Or should I say, who do they rely upon for military might?
  19. Bah! I wanted to see it, but the BBC had it taken down.
  20. Sure, that 1981 Escort takes very little damage, but at the same time... - It's almost 30 years old, and is more likely to total due to depreciated value. - It's damn ugly. - How does its SAFETY measure up to modern car standards? That's far more important than how much your insurance company pays to repair a bumper.
  21. Those cars are over a decade old. How do they suddenly not comply with California emissions standards?
  22. It's funny looking. Are those stock wheels? They're humongous.
  23. Update #2: The media is all over this. - Fatal Crash Tears Visiting Family Apart - Parents Heartbroken Over Kids Killed In Wreck Everyone is back up here, and I too am on the Island. Lisa is out of the hospital, but currenly relies on crutches to walk. The funeral is today, 10 AM. I did not have the opportunity to see the children at Monday's private viewing, but I attended yesterday's wake. There are so many people connected to these two children. Hundreds of people were there at the church, and I would guess that the majority of the crowd was family. News 12 Long Island apparently ENTERED THE CHURCH to try to speak to the parents and get sound bites. The media has been mostly respectful, but we did not welcome this incident. I'm up way past my bedtime writing this. Again, thank you all for your kind words and support.
  24. More cost to the consumer. In light of what happened to my family last week, I'm all for protecting children. But the benefits of a camera are minimal. The driver must responsibly use his mirrors to determine whether there is a child behind the vehicle, not buy a car with a $500 camera and a $2000 nav screen. I could understand enforcing the power windows and a shifter lock, but I think most (if not all) manufacturers have the shift lock already.
  25. Great stuff, Cort. I'm not very much a country fan, but I'll still have to have a listen.
