      Chevrolet Issues Two Stop-Sale Notices On The Corvette


    If you have your heart set on getting a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, you'll be waiting a bit for the chance. General Motors announced today that it has issued two stop-sale notices that cover 2,800 2015 model year Corvettes.

    About 2,000 Corvettes have a potential problem with the driver's side airbag which may have been not properly attached and could separate in a crash. Another 800 Corvettes sitting on dealer lots may have only have one parking brake cable attached and not two. This causes the parking brake not to be as effective as it should be.

    Now GM hasn't said if it will go ahead and issue a recall for these two problems. We'll keep you updated if they do.

    In an effort to deal with quality issues quickly and completely, General Motors has told Chevrolet dealers to stop delivery of approximately 2,000 2015 Corvettes to fix the driver's airbag GM also has temporarily stopped shipment of the cars from the plant in Bowling Green, Ky. The cars are being inspected for a suspect part that attaches the air bag to the steering wheel. Separately, another 800 Corvettes -- most of them at dealerships -- are on hold because they may have been built with only one of the rear parking brake cables fully seated and engaged. The part must be inspected to assure the parking brake is operating on both brake drums.

    Interesting, good to see GM take care of this immediatly, sad that at the start of the 2015 production this had to happen. What idiot did not do their job right needs to be fired.

    Can GM get any car right?  Everything they build has a stop sale or recall.  Car and Driver had a long term test Corvette and the engine blew after 6,000 miles.

     

    Before you rant about GM getting anything right, take your MB love affair and make them get their house in order as they are building some terrible quality products in their own right.

     

    Also, the story on Car and Driver shows that metal from the oil filter seemed to get into the engine. I would not say this was due to a bad engine but yes they do say that GM has had a couple other engines blow up. Not much different than all the MB or BMW engines that have blown up. A friend of mine has had his AMG in the shop more often than he has driven it and this was after trading in his M3 due to the same issue thinking he would get a better car by going to MB. Seems they have just as many poor builds and a wait time for the hand built items to get here from Germany.

    MB has nothing to do with it. They recalled under 1,000 cars in 2013 and don't have an image problem.

    GM has recalled 25 million cars this year, if all of them were 2004-2009 pre bankruptcy cars that would be one thing. But when The Cruze, ATS, CTS, C7 are getting hit with stop sales and recalls that is a problem. Those cars are from the new GM that is supposed to fix the old mess, but it looks like more of the same old GM.

    MB is building their own image problem right now; the self-proclaimed best / like no other is flooding the market with a cheap econo-box FWD appliance at a sub-average MSRP, instantly beginning to tarnish their rep in exchange for money… then they lifted the nose from said cheap compact and put it right on the new s-class. One of the quickest about-faces in recent memory.

    I don't think anyone who can justify overpaying what they do for an s-class is going to have their ego stroked when SNAP-recipients are pulling up in a new CLAh right next to their s-class @ WalMart.

    WOW, 376 different Vehicles being recalled. 218 different recalls on SUV's due to failing to conform to the FMVSS #108. Second recall is for 158 different recalls for failing to FVMSS #138.

     

    So this is what perfection is under GOD! :P

    376 is a lot less than the 130,000 Toyotas recalled last week or the 25,000,000 vehicles that GM recalled this year.  Every car maker has recalls, but the concerning thing of GM is it is almost every model over 10 year span.  And after the first round the GM defenders said that the recalls were addressing old problems and the old way of doing business, while the new products were world class.  Well the new products designed after bankruptcy are basically no better than the pre-bankruptcy stuff.

    You need to read the fine print, this is 376 models covering 2011 to 2013 model years, that is more than a few hundred cars.

    "certain S-Class models from the 2011 and 2012 model years, including the S 550, and S 550 4-Matic, S 400 Hybrid, S 63 AMG, S 600 Bi-Turbo and S 65 AMG. 158 examples of the breed built between March 3rd through July 30th, 2011 have a glitch with the tire pressure monitoring system."

     

    It is 158 total cars, they don't make 158 model variations of the S-class, plus their factory can only produce a maximum of about 400 S-class per day and this is a 4-5 month time frame when only certain cars were affected.

     

    The Corvette, Silverado and Cruze are bread and butter products for GM, and the ATS and CTS are supposed to be import killers and world standard cars, but GM has fallen short on these cars with the build quality, the recalls, stop sales, etc.   In  W-body Impala, a cheap part that went defective causing a recall would not surprise me, but that shouldn't happen with this new wave or products.  Cadillac wants to release a $90,000 sedan, why should anyone think it won't be recalled and have defective parts in it just like all the other GM cars?  It is in their DNA to cost cut now and hope no one notices later.

    ^^^ And the S-Class is Mercedes' HALO car for all intents. It is their Flagship and it is the epitome of what Luxo is supposed to be about since Cadillac left the Big Flagship foray 20 years ago. 

     

    So often so many of U foreign car defenders will go out of your way to excuse the makers of these cars but absolutely fail or refuse to see the reason behind a domestic issue. Often I wish U'd effin leave this country.. go live in Europe or Asia and be done with it. That's obviously not gonna happen so implore U to wake up and see the logical truth. The Stop sale on the Corvette was for an Airbag issue and a parking brake fix on cars that for the most part have not even left the factory or lots. Your bringing up of the engine issue that C&D experienced could have been attributed to several things.. including them not following GM protocols that are explicitly gone over in the owners manual.

    • I am not aware of travel cases for internal drives. Usually you have the drive and once you have made sure you own static electricity is discharged on your body, open the computer and unplug the power cable and data cable to the HD. Then you unscrew the screws holding the drive in. Put the drive into an Anti-Static bag and then usually into a box that has foam padding on all sides to protect the drive and then tape it up to close it.  With both drives in their proper storage bags, you can then have both drives in between foam insulation for handling any dropping of the box, etc. Pack them in a box and tape shut, should then easily handle going through your carry on or checked in luggage. To ship a hard drive, you need to: Secure the hard drive in its original packaging or anti-static bag. If you don't have an anti-static bag, place the drive into a zipped freezer bag to prevent any moisture getting into the drive during transit. Sandwich the drive between foam or wrap it in bubble wrap to absorb any minor shocks. Put the hard drive in a padded shipping box. Close and seal the box. Label your package.
