Tesla Plans Pop-Up Stores For the Summer

You Might Run Into A Tesla Pop-Up Store On Your Vacation

While Tesla is fighting for the right to sell vehicles direct to consumers in many states, the automaker will also be selling the Model S in new and temporary locations.

Fortune reports that Tesla will be opening mobile container stores in various locations this summer with the first location being Santa Barbara, CA during the Memorial Day holiday. Why is Tesla doing this? They hope to lure in wealthy customers to a vehicle during their summer vacation.

The mobile stores themselves are situated in two shipping containers and takes a few hours to setup. Once setup, the mobile stores look like the standard stores with a neutral gray and bright red paint scheme, along with a Model S.

The next stop for Tesla's pop-up store is in the Hamptons. After that, Tesla is keeping quiet on that.

    Pop-up stores?

Pop in 1 place...stick around for a couple of days...then pack up and leave and on to the next location?

Kinda like a carnival/circus where all kinds of weird sideshow people entertain you?

My my...is that how I should think about a Tesla Model S now? Like a freak show?

Just kidding....That sounds like an interesting idea...but vacationing rich people...do they think about cars while on vacation enough to actually "waste" their vacation time looking to spend more money already on a vehicle purchase that they havent already thought of...because rich people...the car enthusiasts...or even the green enviro types...would have already bought themselves the "in" Tesla...the rest of the rich people....that havent bought a Tesla...yet...its because their current car has not been amortized yet....and while on vacation....I dont see them taking the time to crunch the numbers...you know...if its viable of them to spend money on a new...."toy" They are on vacation...after all...

I dont know if you guys understand what I mean....but I made my opinion...if need be...Ill explain it better later...

I actually think this will backfire on Tesla. I do not think this will help them grow their sales.

To me this cheapens their appeal and makes them look like a cheap her today gone tomorrow tonic potion salesman of the 1800's. Would you want to trust a company that shows up, takes your 100K dollars and is gone tomorrow with no physical location to go to?

Just sounds bad to me. :stupid:

All I could think of while reading this was an Only Fools & Horses sort of set-up. I.E two guys selling dodgy knocked off merchandise out of a suitcase in the middle of a market.

I really cannot see this being succesfull.

I agree with this.  I think people that are interested already know where to look for a Tesla, this will just make them look desperate, and maybe a bit cheap given the limits of a store created with cargo containers.

I think it really depends on the appearance of the store once it is set up.  If it just looks like a couple of shipping containers, yeah, it will flop.... but I highly doubt that's what it will look like.

    • Just last week, I saw a few newer Traxes.  They are more sloped in the rear than the Trailblazer and there is no protuding "ridge" over the rear window.  I'd say they are more attractive than the new Trailblazer.  I know next to nothing about them.
    • This is a true love or hate truck as they are just Hideous to my wife and I. Seen so many this weekend and all wrapped. Most common seems to be a black wrap.
    • I promise to point out the bad as well. I actually have hit one thing that is bizarre, their printed owner's manual if very much behind their software update interface, as such there are features that has no instructions on using. I get that the printing happens early, but even Kia Connect, their online presence does not cover some of the stuff that has been updated with the latest OTA update we got this week. Another weird issue is that when you setup the Kia Connect software on your smartphone and invite the wife in this case, it links your two accounts and as such the setting 1 and setting 2 for seat positions, mirrors, environment settings, etc. get merged and you have to unlink your accounts to then have individual settings. Again, nowhere documented.  Kia Connect online community is a good thing as plenty of folks have posted in it to help each other out on how to do things since the existing documentation from the company is not there. I can see where this would be frustrating for a non-tech person to use the advanced features successfully.  The EV otherwise drives like any other auto and the wife already did her first trip to the south end to deal with her side of the family and was very happy at the efficiency of the EV in power used. OTA process is very slick and smooth. You can do it at the time it prompts you, do it when you go to turn off the auto, it will process in the background after you shut off the EV or schedule a time to have the OTA applied. Have to say the Dealership experience has surpassed anything I have experienced in the shopping process at any other auto company. I have a Leasing/Buying an EV in 2024 story coming documenting the experience of getting this EV.
    • Congrats! I can't wait to only hear the good things about this vehicle! Hahaha
