Porsche Taycan to Overboost to 700 HP

      ...coming from two electric motors...

The Porsche Taycan, which is due to be officially revealed next week, got some track time with a reporter from Autocar.  The Taycan will be Porsche's offering to compete with the Tesla Model S, and like the Model S will come in a variety of flavors.  No matter which Taycan chosen, it will come with a 90 kWh battery pack capable of recharging up to 60 miles of range in just 4 minutes and free high speed charging for the first 3 years

On the faster of the Taycan flavors, there will be an overboost option that will hold for two and a half seconds that boost the horsepower to "well over" 700 hp and over 750 lb-ft of torque. That power will rocket the Taycan from 0-62 mph somewhere under 3 seconds.

For those who miss the sounds of a car, the Taycan will offer something new.  It will electronically enhance the sound of the electric motors' whine and pump it into the cabin.

Base price for the Taycan will be around the $75,000 mark, but expect the model with the overboost to be substantially more.

I am excited for this and the other stuff that Audi and Mercedes bring.  Tesla will get a challenge and that competition will be good for them all to push each other.  Polestar won't last 5 years against stuff like this.  Do you want a Polestar that looks like a Volvo S60 or a freaking 700 hp Porsche for equal money.  Easy decision.

      NEURON EV

CES 2020 has been a busy place this year with more auto companies showing of prototypes and finally production ready auto's than ever before. We have seen so much including the latest in super dense solid state batteries for the EVs to motorcycles and bikes.
This year we now get to see the latest competition to Tesla and Rivian in a well funded California / China based EV auto company called NEURON EV. This company has a swiss army knife of a truck/suv auto as well as a Semi truck that they say is going into production in 2020.

The truck which is seen here in Silver has a sister truck that was running around the streets which is the following Black T-One.

All the details you could ever want can be found here on this truck: https://www.neuronev.co/new-products/t-one-p-gyrwr
The cool thing about this modular truck is that is can be more than a truck, a tractor, a van. there are no limits to how one can configure up this beast of an EV.

The seat options are an interesting take as you can go like how Tesla showed their Semi with a center driving position as a base 3 seat configuration of 3 captain chairs, or a single drivers captain chair and a bench seat behind for 4 people and go from there to cover a wide range of colors, materials, etc. in customizing your auto.
While this company is looking at this modular truck and semi for the US, in china they will have many more auto options including their V.E.G.A. or Versatile Electric Grand Automobile.

The company has great plans and while they have only two models for the US market, China will get many more that includes a medium duty truck, a bus, a MAP or Multipurpose Autonomous Platform focused on shipping yards, a HUB or autonomous transportation auto, in addition to the car, semi and truck.
NEURON EV has not released any details about their hp / torque other than to say class leading at this time. Two wheel drive and All Wheel Drive will be the choices folks will have and talk of a base 300 mile range battery pack. More details are to come later this year.
First Press release of 2020 can be found here:

The Volkswagen brand is on track to introduce 34 models globally in 2020.  While some, like the ID.3, will be new to the portfolio, others are variants of familiar faces with many of those being electrified. Much stricter emissions rules come into effect in Europe starting January 1st and will force every company that sells on the continent to rethink their lineups.
For Volkswagen, that means that most of their internal combustion powered vehicles will gain an available hybrid powertrain. Volkswagen says they will be introducing hybrid versions from the Golf to the Tiguan, to the Touareg. There will also be a number of cars coming that aren't hybrids or EVs. The next generation Golf is coming to Europe in 2020 with GTI, GTD, R, and Wagon variants to follow, though not all will make it to the U.S.. The Atlas will receive a refresh and the Atlas Cross Sport goes into production soon. Over in Europe, VW will be launching the T-Roc Cabriolet, the Arteon Shooting Brake, and Tiguan R.  Plus there will be other announcements coming for the brand.  With that in mind, these 34 vehicles are just for the VW brand and don't count what Audi, SEAT, Skoda, are up to. So there is likely to be even more in the pipeline.
This whole push is to help get the Volkswagen brand to a 4 percent to 5 percent operating profit for 2020.

BMW unveiled the Concept iX3 at the Beijing Motor show in April of 2018.  The overall look of the crossover is somewhat conventional, but with the traditional kidney grille being closed off for aerodynamic reasons and special aerodynamic wheels.
The production iX3 will be rear-wheel drive only and have a peak rating of 286 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. All of that power comes from a single motor. The motor is BMW's fifth-generation eDrive powertrain developed solely in house. BMW says that the technology used in this motor is scalable and thus can be used in different automotive segments.
The battery is a 74-kWh pack that is capable of powering the iX3 for 273 miles on the European WLTP cycle (EPA rating will be lower).
The iX3 will be built in Shenyang, China through a joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive starting in 2020.
Once the iX3 goes on the market, it will be BMW's first vehicle to be available in gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and pure electric drive configurations.

    • @oldshurst442 Well said, @ocnblu hates EVs but never discusses them or offers alternatives. https://afdc.energy.gov/vehicles/electric.html The tools on the home page allows you to put in todays modern EPA mileage for an EV and ICE and compare costs and Emissions and even in a Coal \ Natural gas electrical supplied area, EVs are cheaper and cleaner than ICE. Outstanding data on the real sales numbers of EV's / Hybrids http://www.ev-volumes.com/country/total-world-plug-in-vehicle-volumes/ While this was the projection published in May 2019 about 2019 EV sales, we will get a solid look at 2019 and projections for 2020 around May 2020. https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2019 ACCORDING TO THE DATA China sales of EVs is greater than under 1% as you quote. https://insideevs.com/news/394229/plugin-electric-car-sales-china-2019/ 6.8% of all auto sales in China in 2019 were EV's or plug in Hybrids where it was 4.2% in 2018. This holds true across multiple sites using Statistica Data and Government supplied registration data. https://wattev2buy.com/global-ev-sales/china-ev-sales/ So with almost 7% of Auto's sold in China being EVs, that would imply that even with a down economy, we are looking at more EVs / plug in Hybrids sold than people realize. I actually think that people are wanting to go with less maintenance EVs, but due to the lack of style / size options people are holding off and for those that cannot hold off, they are buying new ICE or Leasing ICE to get around for now. Solid State batteries where you have 4 to 10 times the power density of Li batteries is the key to light weight and longer range. Once you have full size Pickups / SUVs out we will see more people change leaving behind ICE and trips to the gas station over plugging in over night to top off their battery pack. Change is Scary for some while other embrace it. LA had Terrible Air Quality almost year round. Having relative in the Greater LA area, summer trips were done each year and the haze was terrible compared to now with clear sky's that allow one to see the mountains again. As such, alternatives such as Hydrogen and EVs / Plugin Hybrids is the answer.
    • So...are we gonna discuss why the internal combustion engine is no longer a solution for the planet's growing population and the need for mobility or are we gonna try to deflect and look for problems in the questions I pose? Because an argument or discussion and finding solutions  is NOT about looking to discredit the QUESTION being asked...but interesting ideas come about and possible solutions are made by actual discourse.
    • Yea, Right Bucko, just like the Gov trying to force men to marry woman when they are already wired for men to men. The same could be said for the Woman side of the fence. End result is the GOV is NOT forcing you to buy an EV, but they are giving incentives up to a point to help those that WANT TO take care of the Planet for Themselves, Their Children, Grand Children, etc.  There is that old saying that you do not get something for nothing. Been proven, Humans are consuming and hurting the planet. As such we have to change our habits. Some places (CHINA) will force the issue fast, Some places (EUROPE) will phase it in and then you have ignorant incompetent leadership that allows us to fall behind the rest of the world. Not looking good for the US in regards to Technology leadership, Alternative Energy, Stewardship of the resources / planet we live on. We need competent youthful leadership looking down the road to Rebuild America and not Static Boomer Incompetence. Go Ahead, Down Vote me. Fact is, some of US care about you and everyone else and know we need to change habits with recycling, cleaner air, alternative ways to move about. Change is Hard Change is Good Change is the Future
    • Talking about cars, engines and the crap that cars spew. Not about humans. Point being... More humans on the planet...especially in the industrialized areas having jobs and therefore money to consume. To consume cars.  Point being, more areas of our planet are being "developed".   Developped to consume.  From being 3rd world and no industry to speak of, to becoming 1st world and therefore "civilized"  to  be able to become consumers in buying that brand new shiny  red car.  And we capitalists ( in the automotive context) are making sure every bloody one of us has a job and credit to buy or lease a brand new shiny red vehicle to get us from point A to point B and since our population is growing, especially in these new industrialized worlds, (yes, I understand that in the US and Canada we are experiencing low birth rates, but we are accepting more and more immigrants from Trump's own words, the shythole countries, and those countries seem to be the ones growing the most, anyways, you get the idea because I just know someone will try to deflect...from the fact that there are more and more humans all across the planet that have the resources to buy brand new shiny red cars... Point being, the population is growing at a very high rate, as now, we are at a stage of our population growth rate that multiplies in compound numbers just BECAUSE of the sheer size of our population...   Point being, BECAUSE of the sheer size of our population, the ownership of vehicles will also  grow comparably,...relatively speaking...and THAT is where my point is being made...
    • Have you taken it in?! Not normal man. Do you have the V6 8A or I4 gas, Baby DMax with 6A? My 2017 Colorado V6 8L45 I had was fine. Only thing I didn't like was the delay from 2-1 coming up to a stop it would get a little hung up in between so had a slight hiccup when back on throttle. Seemed like it was an issue in the valve body, but told it was normal by the Stealership of course. All gears smooth cruising or WOT other than that.
