By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 20, 2013 The current Jaguar XJ has been on sale since 2009, but there hasn't been a potent R model. That will be changing next week as Jaguar will introduce the 2014 XJR at the New York Auto Show. The new XJR will come with a supercharged 5.0L V8 engine producing 542 horsepower. Jaguar also says the new XJR will have a "bespoke chassis" and some aerodynamic work. Other than that Jaguar is keeping quiet. We'll have more details on the XJR when its shown at the New York Auto Show. Source: Jaguar William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be reached at [email protected] you c…

Earlier this week, we reported that Chevrolet was planning to show off three vehicles for the New York Auto Show; one of those being a new variant of the Corvette. Many of us have been racking our brains trying to figure out what that new model is. Well thanks to someone leaking out photos earlier today, GM has revealed what the model is. Meet the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible whose task is to give vehicles such as the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet a run for their money. So what's different about the Z06 Convertible from the Coupe? The most obvious change is the loss of a hardtop and the introduction of a soft-top and folding mechanism. Now with most convertibles, they t…

Land Rover has seen the future and has decided to show their findings in the Discovery Vision Concept, which was revealed last night in New York City. The Discovery Vision "is a vision into the future of Land Rover's new family of leisure vehicles." It also marks the return of the Discovery nameplate to the U.S. Styling wise, the Discovery Vision is taking some cues from the Range Rover family with a silhouette that is much more futuristic and sportier than the current LR4. Design cues to take note of are the rounded front end, laser-powered headlights, a rising character line along handle-less doors, and twenty-three inch wheels. For the interior, the Discovery Vision …

Consider Audi's plan for the A3 lineup in the U.S. There will be the A3 Sedan, S3 Sedan, A3 Cabriolet, a TDI version of the sedan, and A3 Sportback e-tron, which is the gasoline-electric hybrid. Pretty large lineup to say in the least? Well you can add another one as the company announced that the A3 Sportback TDI will becoming to the U.S. next summer at the New York Auto Show today. The A3 Sportback TDI will come with a new 2.0L TDI four-cylinder with 150 horsepower, paired with a six-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, but there is no mention if Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system will be available. Much like the sedan, the Sportback …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 28, 2013 Subaru has pulled back the curtain on the new WRX Concept today at the New York Auto Show and we can say whoa. The WRX Concept "hints at the design language of the next-generation WRX," Subaru said in a statement. The concept is shorter than the current WRX/STI models, but it's wider and has a lower roofline. The design cues on the concept include a large hood scoop, massive grille, bulging fenders, quad exhaust outlets that frame a rear diffuser, and a set of twenty-inch BBS wheels. The wheels and a carbon-fiber roof help lower the concept's center of gravity. Expect more details on the WRX/STI to sta…

Subaru will be bringing an all-new 2020 Subaru Outback wagon to the New York International Auto Show next week. Like its predecessor, the Outback will continue to be based on the Legacy sedan. Subaru debuted the all-new 2020 Legacy sedan at the Chicago Auto Show in February. We expect many of the updates to carry over from the Legacy. On the Legacy, the overall look doesn't change dramatically, however there is an all new modular platform under the skin with improved torsional rigidity and higher strength steel. The buy-up H6 engine is dropped in favor of a turbo-charged 2.4 liter boxer four-cylinder that produces 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The base…

C&G @ NYIAS: Impressions by z28luvr01 Well, it's been just over a week since the NYIAS press days, and what better way to round out my coverage than by writing a few words about my overall impressions of the events? For two days I got to live the life of an automotive journalist, witnessing debuts first-hand, speaking with people within GM, and acquiring a perspective on the company that can't really be gotten from attending the show when it's open to the public. I am delighted and honored to have been given the opportunity to attend the press days, and I have to take a moment to thank Doug Wernert and Mary Horvat of Weber-Shadwick (GM's PR firm) for doing whateve…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 3, 2012 Starting off the New York Auto Show pre-game show, Fisker has revealed the new Atlantic range-extended EV. Fisker says the Atlantic will utilize and updated version of the same technology found in the large Karma range-extended EV. The rear axle is driven by two electric motors fed by a lithium-ion battery back. Up front will be BMW’s 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder to act as a range extender. Unlike the Karma though, the Atlantic will have the option of all-wheel-drive. Design wise, the Atlantic shares many of the Karma's design cues, including a front fascia with two grilles, angular foglamps, and a…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 26, 2013 Last week, Jaguar released a teaser shot and some information about the new 2014 XJR. At the time, Jaguar said the XJR would have a 5.0L supercharged V8 engine, "bespoke chassis" and some aerodynamic work. Today, Jaguar has spilled the beans on the XJR. Power comes from the 5.0L supercharged V8 that's under the XKR-S and upcoming XFR-S, making 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. All of that power goes through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. 60 MPH comes up in 4.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 174 MPH. A stop-start system is standard. Under the skin are a set of n…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 27, 2013 Back at the Detroit Auto Show in January, Acura unveiled the MDX concept and announced they would be showing the production model later this year. Today at the New York Auto Show, Acura introduced the new 2014 MDX. The production model is pretty much the same vehicle we saw as a concept back at Detroit in January. Think of an Acura RDX that has been stretched in all directions and you have the look of the MDX. Inside, the MDX's dash mimics RLX by having a dual-screen display (eight-inch display on top, seven-inch haptic touch screen on the bottom). Other interior features include AcuraLink, a premium E…
