Subaru will be launching their first plug-in hybrid for the U.S. later this year and plans on offering a full electric vehicle in 2021. But to pull both of these off, Subaru is enlisting various automakers to help. Takeshi Tachimori, Subaru's chief technical officer said they are drawing heavily on partnerships with Daihatsu, Hino, Mazda, Suzuki, and Toyota to help with the upcoming plug-in hybrid and EV. The reason for using the expertise of other automakers is Subaru's r&d budget doesn't stretch to include in-house development of these models. "We can't engage in a large-scale development," he told Automotive News. As more stringent emission regulatio…

Japan's manufacturing industry has been rocked by a number of scandals through the past year. It has ranged from inflating fuel economy figures, fabrication of product data, and recently, improper inspections of Japanese market vehicles by Nissan and Subaru. Now a new scandal has come to light. Subaru has revealed that it is investigating whether or not mileage readings on their vehicles were falsified during final inspection. According to Reuters, the mileage readings are used as an indicator for fuel efficiency. The company is checking to see if this data affected its official mileage readings and whether exported models are involved. "At the moment we are try…

Limited edition Subaru Legacy is well worth the price By Paul & Anita Lienert It's not too often we drive a performance sedan that is so rare it comes with an individually numbered limited-edition plaque on the console. But that plaque is standard issue on the 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B, which is being offered for the first time in the United States. The Japanese automaker said it is only making 500 of these spec.Bs (the B denotes the specially designed Bilstein suspension components). We test-drove a $34,620 Legacy spec.B with no options. A destination charge of $625 is included. SHE: Usually I would have built up a real head of steam over something like t…

AutoGuide recently found patent filing in Japan for a possible hardcore version of the Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota GT86. The filing features renderings of a coupe with a new front end, large rear wing, and a new set of wheels. This looks similar to the Subaru STI Performance Concept shown at the New York Auto Show earlier this year. Now the filing has Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries - Subaru's parent company - listed as the creators. Not surprising since both have been working together on this coupe. One of the big questions lingering over this filing aside from when we could actual see this, is how much performance could this coupe have. The STI Performan…

Trying to haul some scrap materials to my cousin and would tow it with https://www.subarupartspros.com/sku/l101sxc004.html. Any ascent owners who tried towing? Would extending until 2,500 be okay? Not sure if that hitch is okay to use or what other tow kit I should use. I think this would be helpful when just carrying some equipment here in our house.

Spied: Subaru Legacy Turbo I know what you may be thinking: "So? There's already a turbo Legacy. Stop wasting my ****ing time." But this one is different. The big (and only, really) clue lies in the more aggressive hood scoop. Could it be that a North American Legacy STi is in the cards or is it simply a mule for the next WRX? There is also a set graphics running along the door sills, signifying if its a STI or WRX. Inside, the color combo continues with black materials and tangerine stitching on the seats, doors, and shift lever. If you were expecting any performance tweaks on the Special Editions, you'll be disappointed to hear there is none. The WRX stil…

In Due Time William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 1, 2011 With the next generation Subaru Impreza coming to dealers next month, questions have been raised about whether there will be next generation version of the WRX and STI. 2006 Subaru Outback XT Wagon Turbo power enlivens a squareback stalwart. by Eric Peters (2006-03-24) Out here in the boonies of rural southwestVirginia, where winters can be long and harsh and snowplows few and far between, Subarus are everywhere. The locals love them because they're unbelievably tenacious, capable of scrabbling up and down snow-covered back roads as well as most 4x4 pickups and SUVs. There's also the well-deserved reputation for being tough little muthas that just go and go and go; ancient but still operable '80s-era Brats are a common sight and 200,000-plus miles on the clock is par for the course. These traditional Subie selling points are what m…

Subaru tried to get into the crossover game in 2006 with the B9 Tribeca, but odd styling, poor fuel economy for a crossover, and an ill-fated partnership with Saab via GM to build a 9-6x version for them doomed the Tribeca to obscurity. By 2013, Subaru was selling just 120 Tribecas per month on average, and in 2014 Subaru finally pulled the plug. Now, Subaru is announcing it is getting back into the larger crossover game with a new 3-row crossover, larger than the Tribeca, due out in 2018. The as yet unnamed vehicle will be built at Subaru's plant in Lafayette, Indiana. As for what it may look like, we can get some hints on the styling direction Subaru might take …
