DETROIT — General Motors will unveil a Cadillac CTS wagon this fall in an effort to compete with BMW's 3 series and Mercedes C-class wagons.

Cadillac intends to start production in 2009 for global sale. GM has shown a CTS coupe concept to be produced next year.

Cadillac also plans to replace its current SRX crossover with a production version of the Provoq concept crossover as a 2010 model. The current SRX has suffered disappointing sales. Sources familiar with GM's plans say the re-engineered and restyled SRX will look similar to the Provoq, a hydrogen fuel cell concept.

When the Provoq was shown in January, Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor told Automotive News that a production version could do something the current SRX has failed to do: draw in female buyers. Taylor predicted a production Provoq could sell 60,000 to 70,000 units annually. Last year, Cadillac sold 22,543 units of the SRX in the United States.

The current SRX is built on the Sigma architecture, also used for the CTS and STS. The next-generation SRX will be on a new architecture that is a blend of two GM front-wheel-drive architectures, Theta and Epsilon, and will likely be powered by a V-6 engine. In size it would be between the Saturn Vue and GM's Lambda-based crossovers such as the Buick Enclave.

Nothing that eathshattering here. I guess the BRX is going to be called SRX though?

So it seems. It also seems the wagon and coupe won't be called CTW and CTC, but CTS Wagon and CTS Coupe. I hope GM does not use any extra badges as wagons and coupes are self-evident.

the whole auto market is run by women. they are the ones that wanted tinny little asian FWD crackerboxes (because they didn't feel so big) then the women had to have minivans, and then SUV's have to sit up HIGH and be SAFE). Now they all want to drive ugly little wussy untough hatchbacks (CRV, RAV).

The more i think about this. The SRX wins awards and drives great but the new one will prob outsell it by 3:1 because its more of a chick car. But chick cars sell. 9-4x, new SRX, etc. all chick cars.

here here, remove the 3.6 DI and trim level badging on the Chevys and other cars, it's not tasteful and ends up adding unnecessary clutter. The CTS doesn't need to distance itself as a more exclusive model, regargless of trim. with any car, more upscale trim should be enough to differentiate the more expensive models from less expesnsive models. so malibu LTZ and LT badging, are just a tiny blight on a perfect car.

it's great these unveils are coming soon, hopefully more will follow, Lord knows GM and all of us need the break in news.

to the chick angle, it's clear they play a prominent role in decision-making [overbearing women, they can't help but try and compensate and rule the home, just like Eve did and look what she ended up doing ;)]...but it's also clear they are drawn to masculine designs......so going for a softer image isn't usually the answer. we'll see if it helps the SRX; being too tough was never its problem imo....

Believe it or not, the biggest complaint I get about the SRX is that it "looks too much like a wagon."

Interesting...it definitely looks like a CTS tall wagon, which is the most appealing aspect of it to me..it looks so much nicer than the obese Escalade, IMHO.. I'd like to have seen the SRX updated with '08 CTS styling cues inside and out..

so they'll ruin it by taking it off sigma and reducing its interior usefulness and making it soft and cute.

but yeah, the srx had two main issues. looked like a wagon, interior was hell until a year ago.

Haha, maybe GM will write WAGON and COUPE in giant letters on the side panels a la GMT900 Hybrids :AH-HA_wink:

how else is he supposed to ever get sex? if he has to give up his choice of car just for a chance to get it twice a month i guess that's why the world is littered with pilots, revs, crvs, and crap

Which is why I made the following deal with my gf: She picks the engagement ring, I pick ALL the cars! :D

She's starting to realize she got short changed... hee hee

they're picking the wrong woman then. There are a couple of guys on here that have decent <as in car buff> wives. My current BF has a CRV but 1. he wouldn't dare tell me what to buy. 2. Would be excited about me buying another CTS anyway. 3. Is pining for an Astra himself.

He bought the CRV because it was the "default" choice the way Lutz described it. After being with me for a while he seems to have gained an eye for the design of a car. He really likes the Lucerne and CTS, when his previous vehicles were CRV, Jetta, Escort..... so hey, I guess he can be taught.

Several of my married friends (both DINKs and DIWKs) have the best arrangement---hubby picks and buys his cars, wifey picks and buys hers. Had I married my ex-fiancee, we planned to do that...my money, her money, and some shared items.
