Honda loses money on every Fit sold here...

Recommended Posts

Honda Motor Co. is carefully allocating shipments of cars to the United States because its exports there from Japan are "losing money," CFO Fumihiko Ike said.

Honda won't cut off all shipments of those imported nameplates, including the Fit subcompact and the Insight and CR-Z hybrids, Ike said. But he said the company needs to minimize the impact of such shipments on its balance sheet.

That means that in some cases dealers are getting fewer vehicles than they might like.

...

Asked whether Honda makes any profit on Fits sent to the United States, Ike said flatly, "No."

I'll gladly help Honda be more profitable by not buying a fit...glad to help all that way I can....!

...and...IIRC...isn't the Sonic now outselling the Fit....?

GM has two bigtime winners in the Sonic and Cruze. Everyone I talk to who has bought one is just head over heals in love with them. It gives me a lot of hope for GM.

Well they are unbeaten in the class for versatility with those magic seats and whatnot. Everybody else is conventional.

A 6-speed transmission for more serene highway cruising is all it really needs at its age, and it still wins comparison tests.

Fit is tinny, and loud and ugly and cheap inside. The engine for its size puts out well, but it's not a refined car.

If the Fit ran at 2600 rpm at 70, had a 6 speed and say, a 140hp motor.and some sound deadener...it would likely get the same real world mileage and be a much better car.

The versatility of the interior is amazing and it's got lots of room and such.

Ultimately people still only pay so much for these small crackerboxes when you can upgrade to Focii, CIvics, Cruzes for not a lot more.

Sonic is well done also. Good design for that class of car, feels real I hear...... lots of competition also....Fiesta, M2, Rio, Accent, etc.

VW needs to occupy this segment.

Don't get me started on the honeycake VW Polo and Up...

You summed it up with HONEYCAKE! Sweet it is NOT! :P

My son's friend has a FIT, loves the versitility of the inside, but has come to dislike the interior after seeing what other bought, but says it will outlast everyone cause it is a Honda.

I told her that she drank a bit to deep from the CoolAid. She needs to release the cup and back off. :P

Only if the sonic were a little bigger...gotta say that it is growing on me...

Thinking about one for my older son...NEAT little car.

GM did nice work on the sonic.

Almost makes me want to buy a Fit - so I can add to Honda's negative cash flow...

Let's not go to extreme measures.

Yeah, the Cruze is a no brainer here.
