Porsche 911 Destroyed... for no good reason!

Recommended Posts

Now this guy really is beginning to bug me. <_<

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWomqEroBn8...porsche%20crash

I'd love an old 70s Porsche 911 for a winter beater/SCCA car.

Why would you destroy a car this cool? What's his fu$%ing

problem? As far as the bitching about the layout of the dash

I think this guy forgot he's English. Show me one British car

from the 1970s that has a logical interior/layout.

Nevermind that unlike a Jaguar that can't even start if the

barometric presssure shifts 3% from when the car rolled off

the assembly line at the factory, or an MG that rusts to death

in about 8 months the Porsche 911 was an innovative car with

one of the most successful racing careers ever.

I love that. Mainly because I would never drive a Porsche and i hate them.

What don't you like about Porsches?

I love Porsches, esp. Air cooled 911s.

They're rear engined, RWD or R-AWD,

horizontally opposed & air cooled. I

mean how much more quirky can you

get? And yet even wiht their very odd

balance & handeling they're the most

winningest car model in hostory.

The new H20 cooled Porsches I don't

like, and I think the Boxter is a POS

for the money they ask but anything

air cooled for a 911 is awsome. IMO.

They dont appeal to me. The only one is the Cayman.

LOL :P

Ironic, that's the ONLY Porsche I HATE!

I don't buy my trucks form Exotic sport car manufacturers,

and even if I did the only one I'd consider would be the

Lamborghini LM002. That's a truck. The Cayman in my

oppinion is a joke.

To each his own. ^_^

(perhaps GMC should get a Kappa ragtop)

Dude, are you thinking of the Cayenne? The Cayman's not a truck...

Damn... yes I was. Leave it up to the Germans to

have two models THAT close in name.

Cayenne

Cayman

Still better than alphanumerics.

I hate Porsches with a passion....they're too small, ugly, and they all look the same generation after generation.....I've never been a fan of them...as a matter of fact, I'm not a fan of any supercars....whats the point, you can't go 180 MPH around here anyway, one you'd be killed by some kid in a riced out Civic not paying attention to the road and two you'd be in jail and your car sold off a auction :P

A '90s 993 (last of the air cooled 911s) is on my 'must own eventually' list..I loved the style of the last ones, esp. the C4S. Though a 996 C4S is pretty sweet also (I love the full-width taillight treatment..

I wouldn't mind a Boxster S either..I've ridden in and driven one a couple times, they are pretty sweet (but tiny inside).

One of the scariest fast rides I've ever had was in a buddy's '76 930 Turbo one time..

I've seen '80s model Porsches go for less than $15K. And that includes some decent 911s...

Maybe I should check into a 944 (since someone bought the Firebird I wanted, the bastard).

First Porsche I ever drove was a 1983 turbo 924,

(predecesor to the 944) it was a fun ride... but I

did not get to explore the upper limits of 5th

gear, the owner was in the passanger seat.

A nice 924/944 can be had for 4-digits these

days, a mint one for teens.

Moltar, once again we're on the same page. :)

928s...damn I love those cars. V-8 power, rear-wheel drive, rear-mounted transmission for great weight balance...

Eh, it's just a car.

I've never really been a fan of the 911 model. People keep referring to its former generations as its pedigree. What ever. I tend to think that the shape is tired.

My brother-in-law owns an '83 944. He was storing it at our place, allowing me to drive it and maintain it at the same time. I enjoyed it, and thought about buying it off of him (at the time, they wre valued at $8,000 for one in good condition). After the research, I found that it was just too time consuming and expensive to maintain. The closest reputable dealer shop was across the border. The timing belt alone is a 13 hour book job...that's just nuts. That was all kind of funny when you think about the fact that it's as heavy (if not more-so) than a late-model W-body (Monte Carlo / Grand Prix / etc.) and it only had just over 150 HP.

He still has it too, collecting dust in his own garage now. He doesn't have the time to invest in listing and talking to prospective buyers. Who knows, I could still buy it if I wanted to...but that maintenance thing still bugs me.

I almost bought an '88 or '89(forget exact year) 911 a few years back. It was my boss' and just sat around all the time. It became part of my job to "exercise" it every now and then. It only had 13k original miles and I could have had it pretty cheap - almost went for it.

Porsche 911 is a great car. It's the car I'd buy if I were in the market for a super-high end sports car. High end would be Z06, of course. My grandfather's one brother had a 911. He also owned one of those funny VW 412s (?) for a while. It may be where I get my wild hair when it comes to taste in automobiles.

Marcia's parents have photo from the late 70s with a VW 412

parked in the driveway, I saw it & the dark secret got out.

They're not my cup of tea either but I'd take one

over a Mustang II or Honda CCVC. BUt I guess

that's not saying much.

I had a sudden thought as I read this post.

I can only think of two vehicles that are traditionally rear-engined: 2-seater sport cars, and public busses.

When's the last time (if ever) someone built a rear-engined four-door sedan?

My two favorites, one a product of the Czech republic, the

other a USA made "europeanish" semi-exotic economy car.

The original Split window...
