  1. I agree. I recently had a Hyundai Sonata for a couple of days. It doesn't price out much higher than a Chevy Cruze (LT), yet it's a larger car. I will say that the Japanese full sizes (for rental fleet classification - they're more like mid-sizes to me) don't feel that great (solid) when scrutinized, such as by simply closing their doors. Not long after this rental, a friend of mine gave me a ride in his retired mom's newer Cruze LT. The build quality in it is better than that of larger Japanese sedans and it rides more quietly. So, while there is value in the foreign competition's cars (let's include the German Passat), I'm still not convinced they're what they're cracked up to be or that I'd like owning one long-term.

  2. Googled around- didn't see any Javelin / AMX's with the circular vents. Pontiac started doing that in '73 in the GP & GA.

  4. • Bought some EvapoRust to clean the slight rust out of the fuel tank, but unless one is ready to put gas in it (which I'm not) it's better to wait. So after all the running around RE the fuel tank and anticipating installing it permanently, instead it's going into storage in the basement, along with all the fuel lines & assorted pieces. Rad shop (in business since 1929!) wanted too much to clean/coat the tank ($395), so I paid them $20 to weld a drain plug in one upper corner instead. The best sealer on the market is $32/quart. • Pu the car up on 4 jack stands, going to work on the exhaust / header next, instead. I am lacking the parking brake hardware inside the rear brakes, but once again; I am asking a '59 parking brake pedal & frame to talk to a '70's MoPar DANA 60, so more engineering there. Exhaust system comes with it's own questions, namely; whether I have to end it before the rear axle or if I can fit it out to the rear bumper. A bit more work and pounds that way, but also a bit quieter. Also can look at the brake line scenario & figger out upgrading the hydraulic system. I had planned on a dual-reservoir manual brake system, need to think it all through.

  5. Javelins had a neat dash design, esp. the 2nd gen models. Haven't seen one in forever..plus they were quite successful in the Trans Am racing series back in the day. Haven't seen one on the road in forever. One did pop up on TV recently in 'Better Call Saul'.

  6. GM's (non-Cadillac) pricing is crazy lately. It makes it nearly impossible to support them when the competition is coming with more content standard, or at lower prices, or at lower trim levels.

  7. Not to be political, but given the mishandling of trade by both political parties and the apathy of the American people...the 21st century will be the Chinese Century. 19th century should ahve been the French century but it was the British century. 20th Century should ahve been the Germany century but it was the American century. 21st century should ahve been another American Century but it will belong to the Chinese. We might as well hand them dominance in electric cars...we have handed them everything else on a silver platter.

  8. There was a LOT of this going on in the '60s. Ford had production SOHC big blocks, and Pontiac developed (but never produced) SOHC and DOHC 421 V8s also. There were other looks into OHC valvetrains, and of course Pontiac produced their OHC I6 for a number of years.
