OK- here's me & my first vehicle : '64 Grand Prix. I still own this car. I'm 20 in this pic ~ Being 20 tells the story- I didn't actually have a car in HS, but shortly after. My father wouldn't allow it then, tho I tried numerous times; the '64 Studebaker GT Hawk and the '59 Catalina come readily to mind.3 points

Alas, my old pics are mostly all pre-digital and somewhere in my parent's house. Eventually I will clean the house out and digitize some. But I do have this pic from around 1990. My '86 Mustang LX (college car) and '87 Mustang GT (high school and college fun car). I had the GT in Florida (high school), Ohio (college and grad school), Michigan (grad school), in Colorado for 6 years, and since 2002 it's been stored in the barn in the background. The gray LX was totaled in July 1994 right after I moved to Ann Arbor, Mi. This pic is from May 2009.3 points

VW doesn't want to sell very many of the cheap version is all this is about. Can't ask 45k for the well equipped Atlas if you have way too many 27,000 dollar Atlas' on the same showfloor. Car and Driver VW Atlas 2.0t FWD C/D TEST RESULTS: Zero to 60 mph: 7.2 sec Zero to 100 mph: 19.7 sec Zero to 110 mph: 26.5 sec Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 7.6 sec Top gear, 30-50 mph: 4.1 sec Top gear, 50-70 mph: 4.9 sec Standing ¼-mile: 15.6 sec @ 91 mph Top speed (governor limited): 113 mph Braking, 70-0 mph: 174 ft Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad*: 0.86 g https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2018-volkswagen-atlas-20t-fwd-test-review " Little Big Four Despite being down 41 horsepower to the V-6, the Atlas 2.0T SE tested here was surprisingly quick at the track. The little forced-induction four pushed the hulking Atlas from zero to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 15.6 at 91 mph. Both figures bettered the results we recorded for an all-wheel-drive Atlas V-6, which needed 7.9 seconds to hit the mile-a-minute mark and 16.0 seconds to cross the quarter-mile at 89 mph. Credit the Atlas 2.0T’s peppy performance to its comparatively low mass, which, at 4268 pounds, was 460 pounds lighter than the all-wheel-drive Atlas V-6. Additional accelerative assistance comes courtesy of the Atlas 2.0T’s wealth of low-end torque. With 258 lb-ft available from 1600 rpm, the 2.0T offers similar punch to the optional V-6, which produces 266 lb-ft at 2750 rpm. This Atlas 2.0T’s passing times were similar to those of the all-wheel-drive V-6 model. The four-cylinder needed 4.1 seconds to accelerate from 30 to 50 mph and 4.9 to get from 50 to 70 mph, whereas the AWD V-6 performed those tasks in 3.9 and 5.2 seconds. In other words, the story has a much happier ending this time than when Ford tried stuffing a 2.0T in its portly Explorer, where buyers were forced to pay extra to opt for its terminal lagginess. With less weight to haul around and two fewer cylinders to feed, the Atlas 2.0T was notably thriftier than its V-6 stablemate at the pump. The 2.0T’s EPA estimates of 22 mpg city and 26 mpg highway better the V-6’s 18/25 mpg city/highway ratings (17/23 with all-wheel drive). In our hands, the Atlas 2.0T returned 23 mpg over nearly 2000 miles of driving, while the V-6 managed only 19 mpg. It also sipped fuel at a rate of 27 mpg on our 75-mph real-world highway fuel-economy test, as opposed to 24 mpg for the AWD V-6." VW Atlas 3.6 AWD C/D TEST RESULTS: Zero to 60 mph: 7.9 sec Zero to 100 mph: 20.2 sec Zero to 110 mph: 25.3 sec Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 8.2 sec Top gear, 30-50 mph: 3.9 sec Top gear, 50-70 mph: 5.2 sec Standing ¼-mile: 16.0 sec @ 89 mph Top speed (governor limited): 116 mph Braking, 70-0 mph: 174 ft Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad*: 0.84 g https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2018-volkswagen-atlas-v-6-4motion-test-review2 points

Actually, a V6 is most appropriate in the Atlas. No reason the Atlas should be stuck with a 2L turbo four that cannot get out of its own way.2 points

I have to do a drive to NY today, but because the Honda is broken down again I can't take the Buick... so my Toronado is being pressed back into roadtrip service again.2 points

Cadillac dealer had a couple new XT4's! Couldn't drive, and the particular ones they had were more pricey. But I sat in the one and got some pics. I like that it has back some of the Art and Science Edginess and more youthful swagger to it. The cabin in the front row is a very nice width for a compact, the seats way very comfy, and the ergonomics of the screen, wheel, shifter, and especially the selector wheel for the screen were very well thought out. Rear leg room depends on how the front seat is set. For a 'compact' its adequate space. But the rear row has a short seat back, and if the front seat is back far, then leg room for taller folks is tight. Rear backrest i don't think reclines either. Overall i would say for driver and passenger there is not really space issues. Cargo hold is small, but your impression of the size of the cargo area is consistent with the published cargo area numbers. This is a nice size vehicle for a single person, empty nester, urbanites, people who don't need or want too huge a vehicle to park. I anticipate it will be a nice drive. Looking in and out the vehicle seems pretty nice. Kinda seems to make the XT5 feel moldy and crusty.1 point

How did you ever fit in a Chevy LUV? Just have had one hell of a sunroof. Guy sitting next to me in the training class I am taking is still the proud owner of the 65 Plymouth he and his dad restored back when he was in high school.1 point

Family discord sucks. My father's sister poisoned their father against his son (my father), I believe to gain his assets. Karma stepped in tho, and the aunt died of a brain aneurysm 2 years before my grandfather (who made it 6 weeks shy of 101). Not that any of us cared about it, but my brother, sister & I were cut out of his will anyway. Her 2 kids (my only first cousins) were/are just as shitty as the aunt. Bill- you're a car guy, don't you need copies of those early motoring pics?? You're in a neighboring state- not like she's in Nebraska.1 point

Re: family discord In my case, i do have some family discord w/ my brother and the family farm. After the whole will and probate fiasco after my mother's death in 2016, I and my 2 siblings own the farm (130 acres in rural Ohio 90 miles from here) equally, my brother lives there, pays 1/3 of the taxes. Been in the family 50 years, so no mortgage. I've only visited once since I moved back to Ohio last year, I need to get my stuff that is still there and my Mustangs, but due to various legal issues it's not practical at this point.. alas, you can't choose who you are related to.1 point

I really didn't want to see this come to fruition. Titanic replica to set sail It was an ugly ship, unlike newer and sleeker ones. Why rebuild it? Just because of that stupid (Oscar winning) movie?1 point

I'll have to see if I have any pictures of my 2001 Grand Prix that sadly met an unfortunate end with all of its engine oil in my work's parking lot.1 point

Part of the impressiveness of putting an F1 engine into a road car would be making it legal. Any engineering team can literally put the engine into a car. The complex part is making EVERYTHING work.1 point

Watching Monday Night Football, saw an ad for Applebees with the old song 'At Last..' (most famous version is probably Etta James). I swear I remember it being used in a Cadillac ad, maybe 20 years ago. Couldn't find it mentioned on Wikipedia, they mentioned it being in a Jaguar ad. Odd to hear that song w/ Applebees...1 point

I wonder if it alienated some previous loyal Commodore buyers. Going from a home grown RWD V6/V8 model with a lot of performance variants to a German built 4 cyl FWD sedan would be a big culture shock.1 point

Today was the latest adventure w/ my sister's '06 Cadillac STS...she gets up early on Mondays to drive to Toledo for the week (current contract is over there). I went out to put her luggage in the car and noticed the remote would open the rear doors but not the the front doors. I managed to get the driver's door open w/ the key (seemed odd to do that on a car w/ a remote), and it wouldn't start. Called AAA, they jumped it, said the 600 CCA battery was only putting out 89 amps, they charged it up and got it running. Said there was an 'open diode' and something was draining the battery. I had to shuffle the cars around and get her Trax out of the garage. So it was now about 7am, the garage she uses opened at 8, so I drove around for an hour--got some breakfast--didn't want to shut the car off-- and took it the shop. They later called back, said it was the alternator. They had to order one..should have it fixed tomorrow, going to go ahead and get the brakes (drums and rotors) and shocks done also.1 point

I couldn't believe how plush some of these RWD GM top of the line boulevardiers were ... an era that will never come back. Yes, some Javelin but I saw some Pontiac because they tended to scoop out their grilles in that era. I don't like the front vent window. Cars looked so much cleaner when they got rid of those. It's only as of late that they've been able to put them back in without making them look dorky (I'm thinking Verano).1 point

The situation sounds dour. It's obviously Australia's Regal eqiivalent. Well, it doesn't sound happy because driving down the wrong side of the street must stress them out. It would me.1 point

Sorry about your Honda Drew. When are you going to finally unload that? Or they pulled it because pedestrians, shrubbery and curbs on set were not safe from the voracious appetite of the mustang.1 point

My Grandpa, dads dad who I was very close to, got me interested in photography died 3 years ago today and all I can think about is his last cadillac that I just loved. 1996 Fleetwood Brougham in that lovely Maroon color. His was identical to this and he kept it immaculate. Sadly my dad older sister got it and she trashed it, then traded it in on a Lexus. What a waste. RIP Grandpa Eddie, you are missed and never forgotten!1 point

What if that high output 4 is the 2.7L Turbo with 310hp/350lb of trque? Personally I think that's enough.. especially if the goal is to contend with the Germans.. including the Macan. Even better would be what I've read to be a possibility.. an EV coupled to that engine or 2.0L. Instant torque.1 point

I seriously don;t understand what U are saying. We are in Q4... are U suggesting that the XT4 will sell more than the XT5 in a matter of 2 months? Either way.,.. I'd expect that its numbers would run similar by proportion to the RDX vs MDX or GLC vs GLE1 point

They should go with an electric powertrain then. An F1 power unit isn't built for low speed driving and idling...though I'm sure they have developed a marketing plan tie-in with their F1 team and Lewis Hamilton..1 point

Used current body CTS are out there for good prices. The XT5 feels a bit old timer to me. I bet the 19 CT6 with the revised shifter and CUE knob, and v8 option motor would be truly badass.1 point

At least other interior colors are fairly available The sense of black wasn’t overly overwhelming So many cars are all black inside these days (that was why I was so glad to take another regal sportback test drive with the tan interior yesterday!) the black inside the XT4 is more like a ‘really dark gray’ the rear seat with the front in ghetto style for large me, was tight in the back. When I readjusted the front seat for a normal person or a chica I had pretty good knee clearance for fat ass me. Its larger than an encore in the back. Larger than an ATS. Maybe even comparable to the CTS. Tighter for leg room and a more upright backrest than a Terrain. Width wise I think it feels wider than an Equinox. I think the CGI’s and legroom numbers may be a bit misleading. It’s probably more comfy than an Escape in the back. Not sure about how it compares to say, a Jeep Compass. This would be a cool ocnblu ride though. Lots of swagger.1 point

Hmmm... I took a sip of the Kool-Aid when the rear seat legroom CGI was shown and we sawr the published measurements. In realtime photos it looks rather tiny back there. Also the interior... BLACK MUCH?1 point
